How Much To Live Comfortably By Myself

How much money do you need to make per year to live comfortably in the United States?

I'm in the Seattle area and I make about $80k a year. I can afford to rent out my own place (that's several miles from downtown) for around $1000/mo, have a decent car, and eat pretty well, and support my hobbies. I could afford to buy a home that's about 25 miles from the downtown area.

A lot of it really depends on where exactly your job is in that area and where you choose to live. Most people work in the downtown area of a large city. Housing prices are going to be higher in that area since people want to live close to where they work. Supply and demand, it all goes without saying. Maybe you could luck out and find a good job in an area that's not the business central of that city. Then you could have more disposable income by renting a cheaper place.

On $80k a year I could go to a place like Tulsa, OK and live like a King.

The downtown area's of big cites like Boston, Seattle, San Francisco, etc are always the most expensive. You're going to have to make over $100k a year to live half-way decent in those cities.

If I wanted to live like a King I'd have to make over $200k-$300k in the Seattle area.

Will I be able to live comfortably with an RN's salary?

Definitely, you will always live comfortably in you will always be able to find a job.

The average national wage for Registered nurses are $67,720 that is after some experience. Which is really good, you will be able make much more when you gain more experience. And the entry level salary is pretty good to about $40,000-$45,000

Good salary to live comfortably in NYC?

Salary (without overtime) should be at least 40 times the monthly rent.
Therefore a rent of $2,000/month should have an annual salary of $80,000.
If you have a roommate, then you can squeeze by on $40,000.

Roommate can loose their job, die, get married and move.
Therefore, make sure you can manage the rent solo before you sign.

How much an Hr do i need to make to move out and live comfortably?

I once took a seminar on personal finance that really helped me out. One of the main things I remember (and has really helped me out over the years) is that you should spend no more than 25% of your pay on housing. The rest should fall into place as long you're not spending too much of your income on housing. (And not being wasteful with other things!)

So if you're making:
1200/month - $300 for rent
1600/month - $400 for rent
2000/month - $500 for rent

Any more than that, and you will be stretching yourself thin - you won't have any reserves for emergencies or luxuries, and your quality of life will be affected. (Do you really want to have to decide between rent and food?)

While you are in the low-income tax bracket - take full advantage of the situation, once you are out of your parent's house and not being claimed on their taxes, you will most likely qualify for grants for free tuition at a state college. GO TO COLLEGE, if you can possibly swing it. Do nights, do weekends, do internet classes - however you can manage to build up some credits and hopefully get yourself a degree. Especially if you can do it for free or for cheap. You'll never regret it, but you WILL regret it if you don't give it a good chance. It will haunt you your whole life. Trust me.

Try to save 10% of your earnings for an emergency fund, set it aside and invest it and it will take care of you - DON'T LIVE PAYCHECK TO PAYCHECK. If you are constantly short on money, you need to cut expenses somewhere or make more money, simple as that.

Make your lifestyle fit your income - not the other way around.

Can I live comfortably in Brazil with roughly $1000 per month?

I'm going to answer as someone who has lived 22 years in Montenegro, a small city in the countryside of Rio Grande do Sul (RS).The population is of 60k people, and we are located 70 km far from Porto Alegre, the capital. This makes us an inexpensive city because we're not as big as Porto Alegre, Curitiba, Rio de Janeiro, etc; and we're not a city far from the urban centers.Considering that US$1000 is worth R$4000 right now, you can live very well. You can rent a house with 2 rooms for about R$450 near the downtown, so you don't need a car/bus ticket to work (if you're lucky to find a nice place to work in the downtown) or go out.Renting a house far from the downtown makes this value go down a little bit, at the cost of 30 minutes of commute every day (a bus ticket is R$3,50, and the gas, if you want a car, is R$3,80/liter).However, there's a warning: don't rent a house near the Caí river! It floods every year, and a lot of families lose all they have:If you are like me, and likes eating at home, sometimes going to restaurants, you're likely to spend R$600. This includes mid-range restaurants for lunching, and some cool pizzas.A house with a high usage of electricity is likely to make the bill cost R$200 nowadays (if you like to have the TV always turned on like me, and perhaps an air conditioner). The water bill is around R$40 (for those who bath all days!). Decent internet connections start at R$80.We don't have popular chain stores here, so you will not easily find cool clothes to wear. A new look will cost about R$200, including shoes, for those who don't care about it.Unfortunately, we don't have many places to go out or party here. However, you can always hit the road to cities close, like Porto Alegre, Novo Hamburgo or São Leopoldo (Porto Alegre being the farther city, 1 hour/car).You can, however, have a nice night with lots of beer with your friends for R$60.Summing up:House rent: R$450Food: R$600Commuting: R$300Electricity: R$200Water: R$40Internet: R$80Clothing: R$200Occasional parties: ~R$150Total: R$2020As you see, you can start investing in something cool (your own house, for example) right away with the rest of the money!Aerial view of the downtown

How to live comfortably? money and career choices.?

No matter what career you choose, the only way to ensure your future is to learn to live below your means. From the very start, you need to set your standard of living to a level that allows you to save money.

My father owned a window cleaning business. He and my mother saved money when they were young and invested their money in real estate. My father retired when he was 47 years old and they both live very comfortably to this day. They are now in their 70s.

It doesn't exactly matter what you do. I know people who make $500K a year and don't have anything other than debt.

All I ever heard when I was growing up was, "SAVE YOUR MONEY".

Example: If you save $20 a day, at the end of the year, you will have $7,300. In ten years, that will be $73,000. Which is enough money to begin buying investment property at 30 years old.
