How Much Will I Save At A Designer Outlet

How do outlet stores make money?

Originally, outlet stores functioned to minimize losses for major brands. They sold obsolete/last season, overstocked, defective, returned, and lightly damaged products that could not be sold at retail prices. Now, they've evolved to become the defacto bargain brand division, selling brand new products. Rather than create a bargain brand, like Old Navy for The GAP, it's been easier to just make specific “only for outlet” product lines. The operating margins are just as rich since outlets operate in outskirt locations with very low rents and labor costs. Often, the outlet divisions outsell the original retail shops. While that’s great for the bottom-line in the short-term, the approach dilutes the perceived value of the brand name, something that the savvy European brand giant LVMH guards zealously. That's what is happening with Coach. About 60% of its total sales are through its outlets. Since the outlet locations sell Coach bags at 1/3–1/4 of retail, we can estimate that roughly 80% of all Coach bags by unit volume are sold through its outlets. This was a conscientious effort to squeeze short-term profits at the risk of losing all its brand equity. For 5 years, this worked and CEO Lew Frankfort got gigantic bonuses for “growth”, becoming one of the top 5 highest paid CEO. By 2014, the Coach brand had been completely trashed, and the board brought in LVMH veteran Victor Luis to stop the bleeding. However, it’s incredibly expensive and time consuming to rebuild. Coach is now resorting to desperate gimmicks to drive sales, like making a leather Mickey Mouse-shaped bag. Really?

Are Designer handbags worth the cost?

ok so i know that designer handbags are made from the best materials etc but as much as i want them...i don't have an extra $5000 to spend on one bag. As much as i LOVE fashion (gonna make it my career) i can't afford these bags knowing that i could have bought so much with that money. I am really tempted to buy the "inspired" handbags but im not sure if people will think im a loser or what. Plus it would take me months to save up for one bag (i am 16)....so are they really worth the money...or should i just buy replicas?

Why do UK electrical outlets have a switch and only one outlet per location? How far apart are these located? What do you plug in that really needs a wall-mounted switch? Is it a mandatory regulatory requirement?

It is a false premise.  Most UK socket-outlets are double.  Although switched socket-outlets are in the majority, unswitched sockets are readily available, perfectly legal, and not uncommon. There is a misconception that the switch has something to do with safety, but the only real safety function for a switch was in the days of DC mains supplies. When a plug is removed from a DC socket there is a tendency to arc, to combat this, early British plugs were equipped with enlarged discs to shield the hand from the arc flash during withdrawal, these were termed "handshields".  Later,   the incorporation of toggle switches (with "snap action" and double break mechanisms greatly reduce arcing),  in sockets became a common way of combatting the problem.  The switch was set on only after the plug was inserted, and off before withdrawal.  To improve this still further there were a number of interlocked socket-outlets developed in Britain, these would not allow plug insertion or withdrawal unless the switch was off, thus handshields became obsolete. The socket in the photograph is to British Standard 1363 which was originally introduced in 1947.  Because DC mains supplies had become obsolescent, it was decided that BS 1363 would be for AC only, and therefore it was not necessary to incorporate switches into the new sockets.  However, consumers had become familiar with switched sockets and appreciated the convenience of them, so demand for a switched version of BS 1363 was high.  This demand was initially satisfied by non-standard switched socket-outlets which accepted BS 1363 plugs, but could not be sold as BS 1363 sockets.  In 1957 the situation was regularized with the introduction of a new, separate, standard:  BS 2814:1957 "Two-pole and earthing-pin flush-mounted 13-Amp switch socket-outlets for A.C. circuits up to 250 Volts".  It was not, however, until 1967 that switched sockets were introduced into the main standard: BS 1363:1967 "Specification for 13A plugs, switched and unswitched socket-outlets and boxes".There is no regulation as to how many or how close sockets must be installed in a British home, but there are recommendations for the number which depend on the size  and purpose of the room.

How much does a Ralph Lauren Polo cost at an outlet in America?

I did a lot of shopping in Ralph lauren stores when I went to Orlando So I know EXACTLY! The polos with small ponys were about 30 dollars, same for the big pony, maye 35-40 tops. Formal shirts, I'm not really sure but I'm guessing around 40 dollars. Socks were 12 bucks, I got some lol (but they were womens). I doubt you'll care, but the handbags were about 80-120

Where is the Gucci Outlet store in Italy?

The outlet stores you are referring to are between Rome and Florence but much closer to Florence. They are in a town called Valdarno which is in Tuscany (Toscana). It is worth a day trip if you like to shop and want to save some money. There are many designer outlets there in addition to Gucci, all the big names you would expect. See them at:

http://www.enjoyflorence.com/gucci-outlet-the-mall.htm

If you go I would take the train. The fastest one leaves at 7:42AM and arrives in Valdarno at 9:55 with a change of trains in Arezzo. 2 hours and 13 minutes each way. Train fare is not posted at the moment but I rode that route last week and it was about 25 Euro one way.

You can look up other times at

www.trenitalia.com

Click the "English" button at the top right of the first screen.

If you like art, architecture or large churches, etc. you could also go on into Florence and see the sights. Lots of good stuff there that changed the world!

Only you would know if the items are worth the trip, but if you were intent on spending some money, I'd guess that it probably would be since there are so many stores and designers to choose from. A word of caution. You will see men everywhere selling Guggi and D&G purses, belts, etc. DO NOT BUY anything from these guys. The goods are all fakes from either Africa or China and it is illegal for them to be selling them. If you want some free entertainment, hang around and watch these guys scatter when the police come around. Also, if you are coming back to the US, Customs officials can seize your goods if they are counterfeit. Not worth it and you can buy fakes here just as cheap. Also, also, if you spend enough money, you may be responsible for import duty when you re-enter the US. I think the new limit is about $800 per person, but don't trust me on that. Also, also, also, if you spend more than 100 Euro (US$130) you can save some money by getting the store to give you a tax refund certificate. They will have to fill it out. They are used to it and it is worth your time and effort. I can't remember the percentage you would get refunded, but it adds up if you spend a lot.

Hope this helps!

Buon Vacaza!

How much is a coach wristlet in an outletmall?

Has anyone ever been to a COACH factory outlet on black friday?

The COACH outlet near me is opening at 12am Friday morning for Black Friday. On the website, it doesn't mention what type of sale they will be having. Has anyone ever been to a COACH outlet on Black Friday? What type of sales do they have? Is it worth going?

How are goods like clothes and shoes cheaper in factory outlets than in showrooms? Are they of inferior quality in factory outlets? How does this workout for brands like reebok, nike etc.?

First, it is important to note that trading regulations around the world differ.   As such, in the US it is legally acceptable to sell off-price, off-quality branded merchandise whereas in other countries it might be more strictly regulated.  In the US, the roots of the outlet channel were predominately drawn towards a  clearance vehicle for residual end of season, overstocked, and damage/refurbished branded product.  In this regard, these goods are more consistent with the brand quality you may have come to know. In more recent times (last 15+ years), there has been a seismic shift, particularly in the US, towards producing branded apparel product at a lower price with much lower quality.   For example, in apparel they will use brand designs and substitute with cheaper raw materials, finishing, and factories to achieve the cheapest cost and maximum margins.   All of this is complimented with extensive and ongoing promotions to drive purchase and transaction size.  So to answer your question, yes you are largely getting a lower quality inferior product in outlet channels at a cheaper price.Additionally, the percentage of lower quality produced goods vs. clearance goods will vary by brand but those that are most profitable are heavily weighted if not almost entirely towards a produced model.   It is also quite common for a brand at a corporate level to disproportionately rely on earnings in this channel to fuel the corporate bottom line.  Interestingly enough, in some countries it is not legal to misrepresent and sell like for like branded product to customers with lower quality at a lower price in the outlet channel.
