How Much Would It Cost To Transfer From Fordham To Like St Johns Or Queens College

How much would it cost to transfer from Fordham to like St Johns or Queens college?

I just started my freshmen year of college and i go to Fordham in the Bronx which means i have to dorm here. Fordham is very expensive, but how much would it cost to transfer to somewhere such as St Johns or Queens college. How much money would i save, especially since i'd do it this early?

Is NYU better than Fordham University and CUNY: Hunter College or is it overrated?

It depends on your program. NYU is great in the sciences and social sciences -they're political science program, for example, particularly its graduate program, is unbelievable. Foreign languages? Yes, I have heard good things about their foreign languages curriculum, but only for graduate school. NYU actually does come up on top in the Princeton Review, quite often, as well as the US News and World Report college rankings.

CUNY Hunter is also a great school. I started in the CUNY system during my undergraduate, transferred to SUNY, and I now research and assist at CUNY Brooklyn, though I am a first year grad student at Columbia. CUNY Hunter is well known for teaching and early childhood education/counseling. If you're not going for these types of programs or related, I would suggest looking into another CUNY school - CUNY Brooklyn is absolutely great, it has been rated in the top 10 on US News and World Reports for three years now for Best Value colleges. They also have smaller classes than NYU, down to earth professors (who aren't expecting you to come from a more wealthy family and understand real life circumstances), a VERY diverse student body, and they also have a lot of foreign language programs because of the number of international and foreign students enrolled there.

Yes, NYU is overrated - to some. Some have the money, others get scholarships and other merit and financially based funding, so they are able to go for free or next to nothing - if you're not one of those people, I'd go with CUNY, maybe just not Hunter. I am personally attending Columbia because I was offered a great funding package, and am getting paid to teacher assist - if that weren't the case, I'd still be at Brooklyn College, paying next to nothing to get the same education :)

Good luck!

Do you regret your undergrad loans?? Fordham University Lincoln Center or St. John's University (Queens)?

St. Johns

42k A year in loans is ridiculous. St Johns is the better option here.

Good but affordable colleges in New York?

CUNYs are usually a good place to start. However, when it comes to liberal arts, I believe CUNY Queens is the best option. They have a really great english program, I have several friends there.

From a New yorker's perspective, I have only heard good things about Queens, City College, Hunter and Baruch. They are all CUNYs. I have had a friend at Lehman college, apparently they have a good program but the area isn't the safest place. I have never heard a thing from Brooklyn college, but I have friends from brooklyn and they said that it's "where people go if they can't find a school". However, I really do not know anything about Brooklyn College.

Hunter is known more for science, education
Baruch is more for business
Queens is more for liberal arts, psychology, music, language, education
City - known for engineering, science

Colleges/Universities in New York State?

Other than Jefferson Community College, your closest schools are in Kingston, Ontario.

The State University of NY offers colleges at Potsdam and Canton; both are small, and I'd be surprised if they had marine biology. Ditto tiny St. Lawrence University, also in Potsdam.

A bit to your south, Syracuse has some offerings, including SUNY's college of environmental science, which may offer marine bio or somrthing similar.

Then there's also SUNY's Empire State College, which offers a combination of long-distance and alternative studies. NY state's Excelsior College also offers a combination of on-campus and long-distance programs.

Your best bet may be to start at Jefferson Comm Coll, and transfer elsewhere therafter.

I know military bases usually have some sort of arrangements with all sorts of colleges; I'm not sure how that applies to your reserves status tho.

Good luck!

What are the top SUNY schools to transfer to from Nassau Community College?

I aim to earn a bachelors degree in business or a related field, and I anticipate that I would earn an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences with a GPA of 3.2, which is around 83 average if I go back to Nassau Community College and finish my last 2 semesters. As of now, I have earned a "Bachelors in Hospitality Management" overseas but when I approached business schools, they do not accept it because of lack of credentials and poor evidence of proper educational practices. So now what I think is the only alternative is to get a second Bachelors in Business. I already have 1.5 years worth of credits from Nassau Community College. I have aspirations of getting into the business field, and I need some advice or guidance to get me where I want to go.

Thank you.

Should I go to CUNY Baruch or Brooklyn College?

I’m a Brooklyn College grad (1973). At the time, it was considered the best of the CUNY colleges. Other than the first year, which was a bust because the campus was shut down by anti-war (Vietnam) protests, I was quite happy and well prepared for law school and my future practice. From the alumni magazine I continue to get, I am of the impression that the school continues to take itself very seriously to maintain academic excellence and pride in its student and alumni accomplishments.Keep in mind that like many local municipal colleges, it is a “cummuter school.” My biggest complaint then was the difficulty finding parking; although there are buses and subways nearby. Three sides of the campus are residential and the other (Flatbush and Nostrand Avenues - aka the junction”) commercial. There was a limited social life — my social life was centered more on my neighborhood and high school friends, many of whom went on to BC from local high schools. Good luck.

St. John's University vs Long Island University?

First, virtually *all* pharmacy programs have difficult admissions, particularly since interest in those programs has spiked incredibly during the recession. SJU and LIU are no different.

In terms of which program is better, St. John's is ranked higher than LIU at the graduate level, which usually indicates the strength of undergraduate programs in pharmacy. SJU earns a 2.5/5.0 on the U.S. News scale, making it good enough to tie for 61st in the country, while LIU did not score high enough to be ranked. That doesn't mean it's a bad program -- it's just not regarded with as much favor as the St. John's program. Of course, rankings really don't matter all that much, particularly in fields where simply having the degree makes you very employable, so you'll have to decide how much that means to you. It's generally much more important to find the place that's right for *you*, which can often be the lower-ranked college.

In terms of transfer, that's usually very hard for pharmacy programs since there are so few spots available. You may want to contact St. John's directly at http://www.stjohns.edu/admission/transfe... to find out what they have to say about the likelihood of them accepting transfer students into their program in the future, since there's no guarantee that they'll ever be able to admit people as transfers, and they are *not* currently taking them.

Overall, I would say you can't really go wrong either way, and that while St. John's does have the better overall reputation, you should focus on finding the best fit for you personally. Good luck!
