What doctors did was bleed a patient, under the odd theory that the "bad" blood would leave, and the "good" blood would remain. He did not respond to the first bleeding, so they did it again. And again. Eventually he was too weak to go on. He was 67 when he died. His doctors killed him. It would be a century before doctors did more good than harm.
