How Popular Are Coup De Tats At The International Level

What are three international developments that contributed to President Reagan's request for military spending

Can you reiterate your meaning of "international developments"?

The Cold War could certainly be considered the first, as it was so important to Americans to be safe that they allowed an exorbitant increase in military spending (sounds a little like today's military situation!).

The second could be the increase in coup d'etats in Latin American countries - Honduras, Guatemala, etc. Traditionally, when the security of other countries in the international system is threatened, developed countries, like the US and Western Europe, tend to increase their military spending and government consumption as well.

The third could be the recent failure in Vietnam and the supposed "spread" of communism (this could also go with the Cold War theory, as well).

How did napoleon gain popularity and rise to power?

He was a Genius and people feared his power. Try Wikipediea.com It has all the answers.

Just like Hitler too. he was a dorky looking guy, but he had genius to rise into power and use people as his tools(not saying he was right though..)

Goodluck!

Explain napoleon's coup d'etat to gain power in France?

Well Napoleon takes power in France after overthrowing the Directory, which overthrew the Committee of Public Safety to end the French Revolution and the Reign of Terror
and he stays in power for 15 years, from 1799-1815
Bonaparte was approached by one of the Directors, Emmanuel Joseph Sieyès, for his support in a coup to overthrow the constitutional government. The leaders of the plot included his brother Lucien Bonaparte; the speaker of the Council of Five Hundred, Roger Ducos; another Director, Joseph Fouché; and Talleyrand. and So he installs himself in 1799 as the First Consul, and then is promoted to Emperor five years later by the French Senate

What is the difference between coup d'etat, revolution, overthrow, takeover, rebellion, uprising and mutiny?

Coup d'etat means a takeover accomplished without violence (or at least not much). Usually, it's an "inside job", where a minister or general conspires with the military to simply change allegiance from the current government.

Revolution, overthrow, takeover, rebellion, and uprising all refer to basically similar violent actions to change the governement (though "takeover" implies leaving the same style of government in place, simply assuming power).

Mutiny refers to a rebellion aboard a ship.

Coups d'État: Can the US military take control over the US?

No.  Two reasons:1) The US military is very strongly indoctrinated to follow the legal constitutional orders of the civilian leadership.  Most of the military would not obey an order to take over.  (i.e. France in 1962 is a good example of what this might look like.)2) US police are local and not under military or even federal command.  For example, if the military were to take over, and the residents of New York City and the NYPD refused to support the coup, there's really nothing the military can do.

How did Napoleon Bonaparte gain power in France?

Napoleon was originally born to a family of minor nobility on the isle of Corsica. Because of his birth status, he was able to attend French military school and eventually become an artillery officer. After this, he quickly rose through the ranks to general. During his time period as general, the French Revolutionary government came under direct attack by a mob Parisian protesters. Napoleon was the one who repelled them. In turn Napoleon who was already popular in France due to military successes in Italy, demanded that they make him first consulate for life. This essentially made him a dictator and allowed him to later crown himself emperor.

Why hasn't there been a coup d'état in the United States?

It is a pity that more Americans do not know and converse with members of the US military officer corps.  Especially senior members like admirals and generals, who are (generally) among the smartest and best educated members of our society, after scientists and medical doctors.  While it is true their personalities and demeanors tend to be "conservative" in the older sense of that hijacked word, they are also very progressive about matters re maximization of use of talent which includes education, equal opportunity and also environmentalism.  Above all, they are absolutely and quasi-RELIGIOUSLY  dedicated to the utter superiority of constitutional civilian rule.  And they preach it to the lower ranks.  THAT is your reason why a coup won't happen... or at least one we'd call a coup.(Anecdotally, one might call the threatened mass resignations that led to the ousting of Donald Rumsfeld and the appointment of Gates and Mullen to run the Pentagon, then prying George W. Bush's incompetent mitts off of our military for a while, somewhat of an intervention.  But it was all done meticulously legally and without any threats except that a lot of flag officers might leave, all at once.  It did the trick and saved us all.  It is was utterly quiet.)(BTW anecdotally, no president has been so loathed by senior officers than GWB.)Mind you things are mixed.  The Navy has been largely immune to the campaign by Christian fundamentalists to take over the service academies, while the USAF Academy in Colorado Springs appears to have been dangerously compromised.People who discuss this issue without knowing any of this are bereft of needed information and alas lacked the curiosity to realize it.  Do not be satisfied with smug nostrums and assumptions.
