How Should I Take This Would It Be A Wise Choice To Leave Work Soon

Is it a wise decision to pursue MS after 4 years of work experience?

I'm in the same boat as you, only difference being that I am yet to start gathering some work experience. Here's my analysis: It surely can't hurt, especially if you do it from a good place. We're in a skill based industry, and thats been the sole basis of your hiring. An MS will refine your skills and broaden your knowledge, which can only make you more productive.Downside, however, is that the kind of jobs open prior an MS and after an MS seem to be exactly the same. So if you expect to get a different or a "better" job post MS, I won't be so sure. Had you been talking about an MBA, or an MS in a different or specialized field, it might still have made a difference. In technology, not having an MS or a PhD is rarely a barrier to career growth. If your reason, thus, is career growth, an MS might not do too much for you and you should seek growth within the industry - or even the company. Amazon is a great company (possibly one of the top soft-dev recruiters in India at the moment), so I fail to see how an MS would aid in career-growth within the same line of work.

Should I leave my job if I am not happy and work as a freelancer? Is this a good decision?

You could definitely make a choice to pursue a freelancing career, sure. Just be sure you do it wisely. Make it a long term goal and work towards it. If you just quit your job like that, without any money reserves and without any concrete projects in sight, it will end in tragedy and despair. So what do you do? First: save some money to make sure you'll be okay for at least 3 to 6 months with no income at all. It will take you a long time to grow your freelancing business to a point where it will make you a fulltime income.Second: learn! Learn in your current job, learn while you're at home. Build some cool pet projects to expand your knowledge. Make sure you know how to build stuff (or that you know where to find out how to build stuff).Third: make a list of actions you need to take in order to start your freelancing business. Like: register at the proper services, get yourself a business account at your bank, and so on.Fourth: write a good, solid plan about what you'll do as a freelancer, how you're going to get customers and how you can help them. Make sure you know how much you need to earn every month in order to get by, and how that translates to your hourly rates. In short: stop dreaming, start planning. It seems to me that you're just wishing you could just quit your job like that and continue as a freelancer. The reality is that freelancing is an uncertain business. You'll never know if there'll still be work once you've finished your current project. If you think customers will flock to you once you call yourself a freelancer, you're mistaken. You need to work on building a customer base. And it's actually quite interesting to do this in the safety of a paid fulltime job. That's how I made the transition myself, too.

I want to leave my job in IT, but my father said he may be fired soon. Should I leave my job?

Hello, from your words i just got to understand that you are no longer interested to do the work you have been doing from long back i guess!!so , what i want to suggest you is that, if you think that , you have to capability to find another opportunity better than existing one, which would give you financial and personal satisfaction , in that case you can go ahead !!but u need to be very careful, if something goes wrong u will repent for the decision u have taken, so u just dont leave the current job until or unless you find a better opportunity than existing one in some other organisation or in some other domain rather than IT.so please better sit and think once, what are your strengths and what are your weaknesses, after that you can take a call, what i understood from your words is that , you are just compromised with what you have now , that is why you atleast got to realize that now and want to have a change, which is most appreciable thing , so i suggest you to better stick to that job, until you find other oppprtunity!!!All the best !!!

Is it wise to leave a high paying stressful job for a lower paying job?

Hello,

(ANS) The only question you need to be asking yourself is if the money your job pays you is worth all the abuse, humiliation, stress, & negativity from your boss??

**Perhaps there is more important things than just money after all?? Like self respect, dignity, self worth, like working in an environment were you are treated as a human being NOT a six year old child, not abused or patronized, etc.

**Who wants a long communte only to live in fear of what each day might bring from the bullying boss. No! DON'T suffer a bullying boss get out for your own sanity, & peace of mind. Frankly, life's far to short & far too important to suffer such aweful treatment.

At the end of the day you Do! have a choice here, stay & suffer for the high money, or leave for digity & self respect even if you end up with lower wages.

**Some times in life you have to take risks!!

Kind Regards Ivan

If you left perhaps you might end up feeling better about yourself if nothing else?

Is leaving a private job and prepare for govt. exam at home is wise decision?

Dear, Today the completion is so vast that you can't take these exams easily. To do a preparation with a job will merely not be easy to handle the daily routines.Everyday will not be the same, some days you would be so busy in the offices that your all study plan will be disturbed. So its better to do one thing at a time.If you really want to crack the completion exam you need at least 8-10 hours of study, which is only possible when u r free from job.Rest is all urs decision friend.

Do you think women having paid maternity leave is illogical?

Actually, it falls under a federal law, FMLA- Family Medical Leave Act, and it does not exclude fathers. If a couple chooses for the father to remain home for the 12 weeks following the birth of the child he can, and get his job back. It makes more sense, however, for the mother to stay home, breast feeding and all. FMLA does not cover continuous salary during the leave period however.

That is at the discretionary policy of the employer. Some employers are more generous than others. Why would they do it? It is good policy to treat your employees well. Happy employees are more loyal and generally more hard working than those with no benefits. Those same companies would likely give the same benefit to a male employee that was out ill or with an injury.

FMLA simply guarantees the employees same or equivalent position on their return. (This law also covers care givers for a family member that is ill and the adoption of a child).

**ADDENDUM** you may also want to keep in mind, that if the woman having the baby is married, or living with the father of the child, any pay she receives during her leave time would benefit him as well. If the family relies on two incomes, it could negatively impact the man as well. It really isn't a sex/gender issue.
Because you are thinking of pregnancy solely as a choice, it may seem unfair. And under the best circumstances, it is a choice. But good thing all of our parents made that choice. Right?
What if Joe Blow played basketball on the weekends and tore something in his knee that caused him to be out of work for a few weeks. Should we say "He chose to play basketball!! Fire him!!" Probably not. And we probably wouldn't want to work for a company that harsh.

Is it a wise decision to relocate to India leaving a good position abroad to take care of parents? I am a physicist working in Canada in his early research career. India do not provide much opportunities to researchers at this point of time.

Since parents have nurtured us ever since Day 1, it is in our ethical conviction to take care of them. I totally understand your dilemma, and in my humble opinion, here’s what I think: Never, ever in life should you make a decision based on ONE person or a circumstance. No matter how close you are to the person, if something goes wrong, you will always blame that person and the regret will later change to hatred. It’s human nature. To approach this situation, you have two options: 1) look for relatively good job opportunities in India and if you find a comparable one, move back home and 2) stay back in Canada, work your ass off and make enough money to provide world-class care to your parents + have them stay with you in Canada for 6 months (I think that’s the maximum duration of a tourist visa stay).good luck in choosing! Hope it works out.

In need of advice about 401k plan, please help?

I am eligible to start a 401k plan at work, but I don't know if I should. Someone please give me some wise advice. My situation is this: I am a 22 year old college student with a part-time job (20 hours a week/ 10.50 per hour). I don't make much to begin with and if I start the 401k plan a little amount of money out of every paycheck is going to be taken out plus not to mention taxes which usually comes out to be 30 dollars out of every paycheck. ( i get paid weekly). I want to start it but then I really won't be making much at work. Is it worth doing it for me or should I just wait until I graduate from school in 2 years and am able to get a full time job?
