I got an iPod for Xmas too! I am having the same problem. EDIT (I found a way) You download iTunes for free. Then open it up, click file and add folder. This will allow you to add music files from your computer to iTunes Library (so you dont have to buy from iTunes) then from the library you can either play them, edit the info etc. But then you have to use iTunes to put the music onto your iPod (I dont think there is another way).

I have the 1st generation ipod touch and want to copy the music from my computer to the ipod. I've tried Real Player, Windows Media Player, Music Match Jukebox, none of them recognize my ipod. I can't download itunes because i'm on someone's computer that doesn't want anything downloaded onto it and only her user account (which is password protected will allow downloading). So i'm trying to find a way to get the music on here without iTunes and without downloading any other software. I've tried copying and pasting from the My Music folder but this PC is recognizing my touch as a camera!\ I really don't know what to do and I hope someone can help.

It'll convert the video into just audio, so you can download it onto your computer. From your computer you go into your downloads, click and drag the song you just converted into your Ipod! :) It sounds harder than it actually is...
