How To Be A Better Singer

How to Sing (Better)?

You cant always help how you sound, but you can always try to make sure that your pitch is correct.

((cup your hand to your ear, so that the tips of your fingers are around the rim of your ear, and the bottom of your palm is pointing towards your mouth. if you talk/sing, you will be able to hear yourself a lot louder. This will help you match pitch and make sure your notes are right)).

I don't really know how to help you like your voice better, because its a personal opinion. But if you practice a lot more, you might come to like your voice a lot more...

I can help you further with pieces of music that you might like to sing if you want (all you have to do is email me your type of music preference, and your voice part). It might just be the music that you're singing; sometimes that can effect how you think you sound. There are all types of music for all types of different voices. You just have to find a type of music that suits you.

I hope I've helped some.

Don't forget, if you would like some pieces, just shoot me an email! :D

How can I become a better singer?

Sing what's comfortable. Don't try to emulate any particular singer. The biggest mistake people make is to hear a certain artist and think, "I want to sing just like her!" Your voice may not be made for that. Get to where you're comfortable with how YOUR own unique voice sounds.

Lots of people say, drink water, get rest, don't smoke - these are all good suggestions. They're suggestions, however, that not everyone follows. I sing, for instance, but I also smoke. So I make my voice work with that. I've got a very strong mid-to-low range voice for a woman. While quitting smoking is a goal I have for myself, to a small degree, it contributes to how I sound. Then again, it also has an effect on how much lung capacity I have.

Breathing is a big part of singing. You MUST breathe - to work, to play, to sing, to LIVE. Not many people get back to that huge basic when they try to do anything. Strong breathing will carry with it a strong voice, so do some breathing exercises when you warm your voice up. Take in a long, deep breath, and then let it out in short bursts until it completely runs out. Such as:

Inhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaale. Ex! Ex! Ex! Ex! Ex! Ex! Hale. (Just as a percussive example).

Learn where your range lies. Have a good idea of how comfortably you can sing using your "chest voice" (diaphragm) and when you have to switch to your "head voice" (mask).

Best thing to do - practise! I haven't sung in a professional/academic setting for YEARS, but my voice is still top notch. And I don't sing arias or practise scales every day - I listen to the radio, or play my mp3's, and sing along. I hum or sing to myself while I work. I test my ability to harmonize by picking a song with no harmony part and building one around it (if possible). That keeps my ear sharp.

Mostly, I just hear songs I like, throw my head back and sing. Music should be fun, both listening to it and making it. To put effort and passion into it is admirable, but never let it become too much of a task or job. Music is art, and should be something you love.

Posture: Pratice in front of a mirror. Your shoulders shouldn’t move when you inhale. The only visible sign that you have inhaled is your stomach expanding, and yes, let that stomach expand! Your back should be relaxed and straight. Keep your legs firmly planted, shoulder length apart. This will help if you choose to go to auditions, it will keep you from doing “the freshman shuffle.”Voice: Warm-up. Sing solfege up and down, up to an octave, then move to thirds, then fifths, then octave jumps. Do common patterns, like Do-Mi-So-Mi-Do-Ti-Do, or Do-Re-Ti-Do. Sing all three types of minor scales. Scales will help you when you sing more complex songs, like any instrument. Know the difference between chest and head voice. Chest voice you should feel right on your sternum. Imagine a beam shooting from there. Head voice should be felt behind the bridge of your nose. Again with the beam. You should feel neither of these in your throat. If you do, you are shout singing which can be detrimental to your voice in the long run. You will most likely have a break somewhere in your range. This is when you shift from head to chest of vice-versa. When you’re starting out, switch slowly. This will keep you from straining when you approach your break and keep a crack from happening.Drink plenty of water and avoid milk or other dairy products up to two hours before you sing.Music: Find a repritior book with an accompaniment CD. My first two books covered musical theater hits and poems set to music. These contrasting styles helped me expand my range. Find two different books that peek your interest and get singing! 1

How can I become a better singer, my voice is bad?

You will never become a better singer…As long as you believe that you have a bad voice. The moment you overcome this belief that you have a bad voice, you'll develop confidence. And, sometimes confidence is more important than skill.Ever heard of Kishore Kumar? He was the golden voice of Bollywood throughout the 1970’s and 80’s. But, before he was 25, he couldn't sing at all! But he had the passion and dedication for music: so, he went against all odds!Needless to say, you'll have to practice. The best way to practice is self practice; listen to any singer of your choice and focus on the tune and the notes. Try to imitate those. At times, it takes really long to get the knack of a tune. It's frustrating too. These times can break down one's confidence. But, you have to be patient. It might just be that that particular genre isn't meant for you.Find a genre which suits you. Not every singer is an all rounder. And it's not worth singing a song if you don't enjoy that style. After all, it's an art- meant to be enjoyed, right? And I'd like to conclude quoting what Mahendra Kapoor once said in a song:Gaana aaye ya na aaye gana chahiyeWhether you're able to sing well or not, you should definitely sing if it's a recreational activity for you.Editted to add a suggestion by Kuldeep sir:After you have gathered some confidence, you can try any of the Karaoke Apps on your smartphone and sing your heart out!!

Whose a better singer? Beyonce or Alicia Keys?

Beyonce` is a better singer. Alicia Keys isn't as good only because she was more concentrated on piano than voice. I think they are both wonderful though. A. Keys's lyrics are always on point!

The better singer: Toni Braxton, Anita Baker, Sade?

I've heard sounds from a slaughterhouse that sound better than toni braxton. Either of the other two are superior in every and any way.
