This is the old style Cheyenne (Brick) Stitch. The one above is a modern day adaption of the old style. It's easier but, I don't use it because the finished work is flimsy. Some will curl up from the sides (like the diamond shapes.

I just find that beadwork done in the old Style is firmly woven and always stays flat.

How do you make earrings out of beads?

There are hundreds of possibilities, depending on what you're interested in. Basically, you need ear wires or posts, beads and something to attach the beads with, for example, end pins or eye-pins, wire, beading, or string. You may also need pliers or jump rings (to connect the beaded part to the wires/posts).For a very simple earring, you can simply place a bead on an end-pin, and then attach it to an earring wire. Are there any sites that sell only REAL Native American goods?

I've been looking around the web, but I can't seem to find any good, easy to use sites that only deal in authentic Native made goods. Lots of the stuff I see on ebay seem like they are being sold by product pimps and I wonder if the maker of these items is actually getting what they are worth, or if the seller is getting the majority of the profit. I've also seen sites like Etsy where lots of what is "Native American" is produced by non-Natives.

If I'm going to buy something, I'd rather help my own instead of put my money into the pocket of someone trying to imitate our things. Whether it's something traditional or even something like bulk beads, I would rather help out another Native.

BQ: I saw this one posting on ebay where the seller was a white guy but said the product was made by _______, of the ________ Nation, then it listed her enrollment number. I was told my my enrollment department that our numbers are supposed to be kept private- like a social security number. Is this correct?

BQ2: Even if someone gives you their enrollment number on-line, how do you know if it's real? Someone could easily make up something like that. Are there any sites where they actually check out someones status before letting them post their "Native" product?

Thanks for any help you can provide!!

Do Native Americans find it offensive if someone's wearing a dreamcatcher?

As a Native American, I don’t see any problem in it.I appreciate your concern and sensitivity though! If it makes it more distinct, things that are blatantly mocking our culture, or are portraying our culture as some “aesthetic” would be offensive. Specifically: redface, wearing headdresses (that’s even a no go for people who are Native), anything that is based off a racist caricature. Here are some photo examples of things that are offensive to my culture and my race:Some context for this photo is that this is on set for the movie The 7 Year Itch—these are white people in brown body makeup. If you watch the movie, you can see their eyes, the patchiness of the makeup, etc. This is Native American caricature for the team “The Indians”. The name of the team used to be “Redskins”, reinforcing the racist intent behind it.She’s going as a dead Native American for Halloween. Here’s an article going in-depth about Native American cultural appropriation, if you’re interested: An Open Letter to Non-Natives in HeaddressesBut in your case, jewelry, food, most clothing are good. What type of metal is best for making earrings?

Any metal unreactive with tissue is good. Are they going to be used on pierced ears, or clip ons.? For clip ons, the requirements for compatibility are less since with pierced ears the metal is in closer contact with the skin. Stainless steel, gold, titanium, or sterling silver, will do. What is best is determined by what you want to make using these materials. Are you going to hand carve it? Perhaps gold. Machined? Stainless might be better.Very intricately carved, titanium. It might be emphasized that the only part that really matters is the metal in contact  with the skin and the other metal or material really doesn't matter.
