How To Beat My Speeding Ticket With No Insurance

I got a speeding ticket in Washington. I have CA license/insurance. Do they report to my insurance and CA DMV?

This happened to me 20 years ago so imagine how fast they get on this now.

I lived on the east coast and got a simple speeding ticket in CA while visiting. I figured it was no big deal and forgot about it.

It took 6 months but it showed on my insurance. Even though I had never had a ticket my rates went up a bit. I did the quicky traffic school and where I live you drop a point on your license for every year that you don't have a ticket. So no biggie.

I still didn't take care of the ticket as I determined that CA had just found me guilty without being present and there was no warrent for failure to appear.

3 YEARS later I got pulled over. My license had been suspended in my home state. Car was towed ($350) and I got a driving on suspended. 6 points in my state, a huge fine and a 30 day suspension. Insurance went up immediatly.

To reinstate I had to get a letter from CA saying that a had cleared the ticket. My simple little speeding ticket became almost $500 with all of the fees and such. Getting the letter took forever. Then I had to pay for reinstatement in my home state once I got it. My stupid little ticket for like $50 cost me all told with the insurance over time about $4500. And this was with a clean record.

Point is.... yes it will follow you. If you have not done so take care of it. If you have CA DMV will not care. But it will show on your insurance at some point.

Can you beat a NO motor vehicle INSURANCE ticket in Georgia.?

I have a 1983 year vehicle that was not operational. So i had my mechanic tow it to his home the next street over. On my Birthday, I got enough money to pick it up. So i got the vehicle from his home... the street over.... to make sure it ran properly.... I drove it in the neighborhood. An officer pulled me over and gave me tickets.

I was pulled over on Lily Street and the street on the ticket says differently.
Also does this violate my right to travel under the US Constitution?:

What is the best strategy for fighting a speeding ticket in Maryland?

This question shows up frequently on Yahoo Answers. I can tell you how it works in the court I usually attend.

The best strategy is if you weren't speeding at all and you can tell the judge that.

Our judge (actually a magistrate) starts the court off by telling everyone that she is only there to determine if the officer met the burden of proof. She then adds that the fine and points are already established in the state statute and she can't help you with those.

The officer always goes first. The officer is sworn in and then presents testimony on how he/she determined that you were breaking the law. After the testimony is over, you are given the opportunity to ask the officer questions of your own. When you are finished, the hearing could be over. Or, you could choose to present testimony of your own. You can call witnesses and even present evidence of your own. The only risk is that the officer can then ask you questions. If you aren't careful you could say or do something that makes yourself look guilty. After you are done with your testimony and the officer is done cross examining you the judge will make a determination of guilty or not guilty. If you are found guilty you will also be assessed court costs to pay your share. Our court costs are $150.

If an officer wants to miss court they must get it approved by a Sergeant. If the officer wants to reschedule they must notify the court 72 hours prior. The officer is paid a minimum of 2 hours of overtime just to show up.

So your best strategy may be to see if there is some kind of driver improvement school offered. For that to count here you must complete the class first and bring the certificate to court before your actual court date.

Hope this helps.

VERY upset about first speeding ticket. Beating myself up; advice?

I felt the same way when I got a ticket. I also felt that my reputation as a responsible person was ruined, and I didn't want to find out anymore information. Are you young? If your parents put a lot of pressure on you to be perfect, that could explain why you feel that way, especially if you are on their insurance. Of course, that conditioning can remain even after we're responsible for ourselves.

To help yourself, remember that everyone makes mistakes. One speeding ticket does not make you a bad driver. Your self-esteem and self-worth is not based on something that small. If that were the case, then there'd be almost no responsible people in the world.

If you can't face the ticket, maybe you could share your anxieties with a friend and let her be with you when you call to find out about the ticket. After you get off the phone, go shopping, read, or do something to take your mind off of it. Then, try to figure out if you can get your charges appealed or lowered. Don't give up hope!

In the meantime, you might want to seek cognitive therapy so you can escape the negative thought loop that occurs when you make a mistake. Guilt can be so paralyzing sometimes, but getting perspective from others can help.

How do you get a speeding ticket dismissed?

First, don't be an ass to the officer writing you the speeding ticket.  The more boring and compliant you are, the more likely it is that the officer will not see you as a threat and therefore may forget about you entirely when it comes time to go to court and fight the ticket.  If you tip your hand and rant and rave about how he's going to lose his badge and he's getting sued and you're going to court over this, well, obviously he or she is likely to be a lot more prepared when it comes time to go to court.  Instead, politely ask the officer if he would give you a warning this time, since you never break any traffic laws and you are thankful that he's there keeping the neighborhood secure.Second, its a speeding ticket, so creating doubt should be pretty easy.  How can he prove that it was specifically your car that was speeding?  Do you have any witnesses?  Does he have any witnesses?  Adamantly declare that you were not in fact speeding and he must have the wrong car, since there were so many going by at the time.  In fact, there were cars passing you and you were doing the speed limit.Third, acquire the work schedules of the police working traffic and schedule your trial for a time when the officer will be working or otherwise indesposed.  This is how so-called ticket clinics work.  Might not be a bad idea to hire one of these yahoos if you don't think you can pull it off.  Bottom line is, go to court and contest the ticket but make sure the officer will not show up to court, and the case will be dismissed.Fourth, if possible negotiate with the prosecution.  Ask for a plea deal or to attend traffic school to have the case dismissed.  You may be able to avoid getting points on your license but still have to pay the fine.  Points are bad, fines are not as bad.

What should i say in court to fight this speeding ticket?

I have ALWAYS fought my tickets.. I have always won...this is how I do it....

I pay the retainer...50$ I plead NOT guilty....get my court date...show up for court say, I didnt realize that I was going that fast.....they drop the fine by 50% ,drop any/all points,.....they make it 5 over the limit .and my issue is over...nothing shows on my record..
I have done this about 4 times in my life and all you have to do is plead not guilty and show up for court...and if the cop doesnt show , you automatically win the case...
Oh and you can challange the radar gun, they are not 100% accurate..look it up....I have never did this but, I know it has been done.
It is worth it to fight any ticket. at least it wont go on your lic, insurance and you will not get points.
Good luck.

By the way I have fought tickets in South Carolina---was livng in Florida and drove back up for my court date...didnt want the points.....would have lost my DL..on that 1
I have also fought 3 in Pennsylvania...
They have always lowered fine, no points, and done...no classes, extra issues, and did NOT have to pay any court costs.
Have any of you who answered this question ever tried to fight a ticket??? cause I think you would have different answers ... it does work!

How do I win my speding ticket case in traffic court?

sorry..details

I was on a highway and had just passed an 18 wheeler as a SAFETY measure (it was carrying 5 crystlers on top, one was hanging off a little) he may have gotten me when I was accelerating a little to get past the truck and get back into the right lane. I wasnt going 84 like he clocked me at on a lidar... 70 at most.

Should I hire a traffic lawyer for my speeding ticket?

I actually am a lawyer and I have actually litigated loads of tickets (although this isn’t a major part of my practice). The calculus of this is, yes, hiring a lawyer is usually more expensive than simply paying the ticket. And, if you can take the time off work, and/or you happen to live in the jurisdiction that issued you the citation, you can appear without a lawyer, and if the cop shows up (about 94% of the time in my jurisdiction) maybe you can work out a deal with the cop to reduce the fine or even let you get the case dismissed if you go to traffic school. Or maybe not. On the other hand, if you have a dubious enough record that one more conviction will boost your insurance rates sky high, or get you cancelled, or get your license suspended, maybe its not a bad idea to at least talk to a lawyer who specializes in cases like this and see what he or she thinks might be done to help you out. Note that I have actually taken a number of traffic ticket conviction up on appeal and have gotten clients’ convictions overturned. Whether it was worth depends on the individual client’s view: one was fired for getting convicted — getting unconvicted will ease his job search as a driver in the future.

I got a speeding ticket for 5 over from the Washington State Patrol. Should I mitigate or contest the ticket? Which route should I go down to get it off of my record?

MitigatingMitigating a ticket in Washington does not remove it from your record. It usually means you pay less - sometimes way less - but it stays on your record. DeferringCliff Gilley mentioned this. At either a contesting or mitigating hearing, if you have a clean record, you can ask the judge to defer the ticket. If you go an entire year without getting another ticket, the first ticket will disappear. If you get a second ticket, you will have to pay both of them, and both will go on your record. It's totally up to the judge whether or not to grant a deferment.ContestingMy partner has gotten speeding tickets in two different Washington counties in the past five years. Both times, my partner decided to hire a lawyer to go argue in court and make sure the speeding ticket did not go on anyone's record. The first speeding ticket, which was in Pierce County, was dismissed entirely. We had to pay the lawyer, but not the ticket. The second speeding ticket was in Thurston County, which was trickier, but the lawyer got the judge to agree to change it from a speeding ticket to expired tabs. Expired tabs is a non-moving violation that does not affect your insurance costs. We still had to pay the same amount to the county, and we had to pay the lawyer too, but our insurance costs didn't go up and there are no moving violations on my partner's driving record. The lawyers told us that in Pierce County it is easy to dismiss speeding tickets, but very difficult in Thurston County, so they did the changing-it-to-a-nonmoving-violation instead. Different municipalities have different laws, so there isn't one best way to fight a speeding ticket for all of Washington state. If it is really important to you to not have the ticket on your record, important enough to pay money for - probably way more money than just paying the ticket - hire a traffic lawyer who has worked in your county before. There are lawyers who specialize in contesting tickets, and they'll know the right way to do it in your jurisdiction. You won't even have to show up in court. It cost us $250 to hire a lawyer for each ticket. That's twice what the ticket cost. So you have to be a pretty stubborn cuss to do it.
