How To Build Up My English Vocabulary

How did you build up your vocabulary?

This is my immediate response to your question: it's Index Card Strategy! This is how it has worked for me, for years till today.I use 5x8 cards as well as 4x3 cards for their pocket portability, from the standpoint of self-quizzing or  testing while "learning-on-the-go": commuting or waiting in queue.Whenever I come across a new word, I will write it down on one side of an index card, with its dictionary definition, along with characteristics and traits of the word, plus all the grammatical variations. To  extend my understanding of the new word, I will proceed to explore similar words  (synonyms), opposite words (antonyms), word parts (prefix, root, suffix) and even examples and  non-examples.On the flip-side, I will make my own sentence constructions by using the new word, to demonstrate my thorough understanding.Naturally, I also often copy the original sentence from which I have found the new word, especially when it expresses something masterfully and elegantly.Whenever  I come across the new word in other writings, or in conversations, or  in the news or even the movies, I will write the full expression down on to the flip side of my  index card. This is the essence of  sentence mining, a very powerful process.Next,  I proceed to do my level best to make use of the new words within  the context of their many sentence configurations in my everyday life and workflow activities: conversations, dialogues, discussions, meetings, writing emails or reports or proposals or blog pieces or even Quora posts, doing presentations or sales pitches, public speaking gigs, article contributions, etc., For you, I would suggest replicating this elaborate  process with chosen words already inside your own prevailing vocabulary,  thus creating opportunities to  expand your word knowledge along the  same lines. You can even use organising themes for the words so as to  expedite your learning pursuit in vocabulary building and generation. This process may seem like old school burden, but it's worth your while, as you are applying the multiplier effect to your vocabulary building and generation, especially from the standpoint of application-context possibilities. To  sum up, the fire test of your rich vocabulary comes from  your  massive usage and consistent application in everyday life and workflow activities, involving real communication with real people,  as much as possible, so as to reinforce your practical utility and memory retention/recall.

Can the writing poem build up my English vocabulary?

As per my assumption poem writing is the highest form of literature. Poetry is like reaching to the top of mountain, n for this u have to start from the base.Bcz. poem demands few beautiful, selected and appropriate words to express the particular feeling, thought and concept. And for this one need a good observation, sensitive mind, ability to relate with the situation / context and enough reading of quality literature.Go step by step. Do not directly try to fly. Thanks for A2A
