What is overdrive and how should I choose between putting my car in drive or overdrive?
All the answers here are good for describing what overdrive does, but don't really give examples as to when you should use or not use overdrive.Most have said overdrive is good for highway use to reduce the RPM's of the engine and therefore conserving fuel. This is true as that is what it was designed to do.Additionally, overdrive would be safer in slippery situations where ice or wet roads may be a factor as the drive wheels would be much less likely to see a sudden acceleration from loss of grip.However, when do you not want to use overdrive?A good rule of thumb for this situation is to compare it to situations where you would find it beneficial to down shift in a manual transmission.These may include:When you are preparing to switch from a slower moving lane of traffic to a faster lane. Help me narrow down 2 cars to choose from in the group! Infiniti M37, Audi A6, BMW 5 series, Mercedes E-class?
Hey guys Im trading in my current lease on January 15th and Im stuck between a couple cars. I currently drive a 2008 Lexus GS350. The GS was a nice car I never had a problem with it but quite frankly I became bored of the car very quickly so another GS or a Lexus for that fact is out of the question for me. Im looking for a vehicle with a little more pick up in terms of acceleration and performance aswell as reliablilty. I have a couple cars in mind of those being the 2011 Infiniti M37, 2011 BMW 528i, 2011 Mercedes E350 and Audi A6. Ive taken a look at all of these vehicles except for the 2011 Audi A6. So far the two that have impressed me the most are the 2011 Infiniti M37 and BMW 528i sedans. I really liked the Mercedes but I felt the car was not my style, its very elegant but a bit to bland for my taste. The 5 series felt underpowered to me while the Infiniti M37 was alot more impressive in terms of its driving dynamics. The BMWs interior was alot more simple and modern but it had no soul, the M37 interior is alot busier and I think a little more refined then the BMW. I have heard alot of great things about the New M37 aswell as the 5 series which is why im probably more drawn to the two. Should I consider the Audi A6 or just forget about it. It looks nice but it hasnt really changed much over the years except for a recent facelift. Should I reconsider any other brands and why, if not which would be a better choice within the group??

Advantage of 5-door car over 3-door car?
Most people who purchase coupes (3dr) wish they would have purchased sedan(5dr) because they get tired in a hurry tilting seats forward and to get stuff in or out or let their peeps in or out.Also sedans have a wider market when it comes time to sell or trade for the same reasons. But if it is just you 90% of the time the 3dr will get slightly better fuel mileage due to less weight. But when you weigh one against the other pros and cons the 5dr wins. Unless of course you don't like the looks of one with the extra doors ( looks is the number one reason people buy a car). So it is cool to see someone weighing other factors.Bear in mind you will likely have this car for 5 years or more the extra doors will come in handy later even if not now!!
