How To Control Your Pet

How to control the smell of my pet mice?

The answer to keeping your mice smelling fresh is to clean them often. The bedding can help, but unfortunately, they potty just about everywhere, so all surfaces need to be cleaned often. This can be difficult in Crittertrail and the like housing, so you may want to look into another sort of caging if you find that regular cleaning of all the tubes and such is too much.
Spot clean the bedding and surfaces daily, and clean the entire cage 2x per week. When performing a full cage cleaning, remove the mice to a holding container, and completely empty and take apart all of the caging. Wipe down with a 50% white vinegar solution, and rinse well. Make sure everything is perfectly dry before reconnecting and filling with bedding, as moisture will grow nasty bacteria, and lead to smelly mice.
CareFresh is fine to use with mice. They Ultra works better on limiting smells then the regular does. Aspen shavings are also fine, just stay away from pine and cedar.
Good luck!

I Can't Control my Dog!?

I got my dog Khloe (A Chihuahua-Shiba Inu mix) when she was 14 weeks old, but we adopted her thinking she was about 4 months. With my boyfriend, who is here only on weekends, she is like an angel. But when it's just me she's out of control, biting, growling, eating my clothing, taking my food right off my plate, and just doesnt listen if I tell her not to do something. We did puppy training and I follow everything they told us to do and she listened for maybe a week. I constantly have bruises on my hands and arms from fighting her off of me, and I have no idea what to do next! Nothing seems to work!! can someone please help me!!?

How can I stop myself from trying to control my pet? I get very angry at him when he bites or makes a mess. I feel like I need to make him listen to me.

Look. It’s an animal. I assume you are talking about a cat. A cat’s brain is about the size of a walnut (if that). Essentially you have a permanent 2 year old in your house with much better reach than any toddler you’ve ever known. In having a cat you have to accept that to some degree. You can do a few things about his biting the walls. Get some repellent for them. Try “Granny’s Bitter Apple” to train him away from the walls. I’ve used a water gun in the past too.Do you have anything that is specifically for him to play with? Do you ever engage in play with your pet? Try some regular play time with your pet. A little each day can wear down on the extra energy it needs to expel. Get some toys and do some play time.As for the food and water, you really need to worry less about it. Our dog makes quite a mess on the floor when she drinks her water. The cats like to play with her food. It’s just a “thing” and nothing more. Heck, that’s what a nice swiffer mop is for. Those things are great (this is not a commercial, lol).So try not to get so angry with your pet. After all, I’m sure it still loves you for all your quirks ;)

How can you control a dog's shedding?

It doesn’t say which breed of dog that you own.If shedding is typical of the breed that you own for example Husky or Dalmatian, or if you have a mixed breed dog then it is important that you do some research on how often they shed. This is so you can know the shedding cycle. A dog like a Husky will shed all the time, but will have two big ‘coat blowing’ cycles a year. This is where they shed the entirety of the their undercoat, something that is normal for the breed.Way in which you can help reduce the shedding is by brushing your dog. This is good as it not only picks up the hairs that would other wise fall out, but will also act as a bonding exercise for you and your dog. If you dog does not like to be brushed then start off for short periods of times, with lots of food rewards. While my Husky is blowing her coat, we will also take her to the professional groomers at the start in order to minimise the amount of fur that is in the house. If your dog is shedding a lot, you may also find it useful to brush it outside too.The quality of food is also important to consider, are you giving your dog cheap food that may cause more shedding or are you giving them good quality dog food. Obviously if your dog is genetically prone to shedding this will not matter with regards to shedding as they will always shed.If your dog is a breed that is not characteristically meant to shed, then I would take it to the vet as soon as you can. This is because it could be an indicator of something else.Good Luck!-Day 45/365

I cannot control my sudden bursts of anger with my dog.?

Well, it sounds like she was bored and had some energy. Is there anywhere you can take her where she can run off a leash? Any dog parks in your area, fenced in baseball diamond where you could throw a ball around?

And next time you get upset with her, try not to be so harsh. A good firm 'Bad Girl' should do the trick. Don't take your anger out on her, she doesn't understand and it will just make her fear you. Then you will just feel guily.

Hang in there, and good luck!
