How To Convert A Digital Picture Frame Into A Monitor

Does anyone know how to convert digital images into slids?

From one graduate student to another, there are better ways to convert your digital files to slides. The aforementioned technique will yield either a pixelized looking image or an image that is choppy because you have to shoot tv's or computers with a shutter speed of around 1/60 of a second because of a monitors refresh rate.
So my solution is that I am guessing that your art school probably has a photography department. I am also guessing that they most likely have a film recorder which in essence takes a digital file and puts it onto slide film or negative film. In terms of presentation quality, it is good enough for gallery/museums to project or simply look on a light table. Thankfully most galleries seem to be more relaxed about accepting CD's or DVD's but for the good 50% of the galleries that dont accept computer media buy a Polaroid ProPalette 8000 Film Recorder.
Also just to let you know, if you contact a professional photo finishing shop, they sometimes have a film recorder, as well as there are online places that you can go to, to upload your images to a server to be recorded onto film, although beit the prices are sometimes high, around $40 for say 15-20 slides(although I am sure you can find a better deal)..I included a link to a service bureau below. good luck!

How are the electric signals converted into pixels on the screen?

It’s called “scanning”. The picture “frame” is scanned from the top left corner to the top right, then the third line from left to right, then the 5th, and continues all the way to the 256th line at the bottom, (U.S. standard), then the alternate lines - the alternate frame of the picture are scanned, (lines 2, 4, 6 etc., for a total of 525 lines). When that’s completed, the whole process starts over with the first line on top. This is called “Interlaced” scanning. The reason is that without interlaced scanning, the lines would be much more visible and people would see a flicker. The frame is scanned in 1/120th of a second, the entire picture in 1/60th of a second. The scan crosses from the left side to the right side in 15,750th of a second. The British system is different - the picture is scanned with fewer lines, and is done in 1/50th of a second instead of 1/60th, due to the power line frequency being 50 Hz where here it’s 60 Hz in the U.S. If the scan is not locked to the power line frequency, a “Hum bar”, a broad dark horizontal line, may appear on the screen which may be stationary or slowly roll up or down.

How do you get photos from a film camera straight onto your computer after taking the shots?

No of course it is not for crying out loud.

You have to have the film developed and then have the negatives scanned to make a digital file.
Alternatively develop the film, make prints and scan the prints.
