How To Convince Parents To Let Me Be Pescetarian

How to convince parents to let me be pescetarian?

Forgive me if I spelled pescetarian. wrong but lately I've been researching the vegetarian life style and have gained interest in it. I want to be a vegetarian but my stepmom says I'm too young (13) and my mom cooks with a lot of meat. So instead of going vegetarian, I thought I could tell them I'm going pescetarian to lighten their views on it. I don't eat fish that often though. I need tips on convincing them and maybe substitutes for this meat that I would usually eat at dinner.

How to convince your parents to let you become a Vegetarian?

when i first became a vegetarian my mother was pretty much against it, she was concerned that i wouldn't get all the protein that i need, as well a the rest of the minerals and vitamins that you need, also she grew up on a farm where the animals was raised for food and what not. But being vegetarian was very important to me, so i sat down and explained to her my reasons for doing this and that i was going to do it no matter what (even if she didn't support my decision). just to ease her mind, i made appointments with my family doctor, public nurse, and local dietitian, and got her to come along with me to my appointments, i explained to each of them my decision to get their response. They we all very supportive and the doctor and dietitian explained different ways i could get enough protein and minerals and about different replacements so i could live a very healthy lifestyle with out worries, i kept seeing my dietitian once a month for the first 6 month, and my doctor checked my iron and b12 levels once every 3 months, just to make sure everything was fine. Through all of this my mother learn that its a very healthy diet, and that there's no need for her to worry, also once she seen that i was getting help in making sure i was taking care of my self that also eased her mind. And she quickly came VERY supportive of me. And surprisingly she has been trying soy products and vegetarian recipes, she has even started to cut back on the amount of meat she's been eating, so its safe to say it worked out

My parents wont let me be pescatarian?

I hate eating animals. It's gross and it makes me feel.. dirty? Idk. My parents won't let me become vegan or vegetarian. So I've come down to pescatarian. I can handle eating fish. However, they won't even let me do that. How can I convince them to let me? They're concerned about me not getting nutrients from meat. Is it really necessary to eat meat? Is there a substitute to eating meat? I know want to be healthy. If I absolutely have to eat meat, then I will. Ew.

How do I convince my dad to let me become a pescetarian?

I have a slightly philosophical response to this question. So many Quora questions start with “how can I convince…” and generally it’s regarding how you can change someone’s lifestyle or conduct, as in “how can I convince my dad to stop drinking”. Those are really tough challenges. The second category is “how can I convince…” and it regards changing their opinions about something that has to do with you, or your beliefs, your friends, your religion, etc.Your question falls in the second category. I think the right approach is not to disagree head-on with “Dad, that’s BS about needing to eat red meat!”, but rather to let him know about how you feel, why you’ve made your decision, and maybe some evidence from a reputable source about the benefits. Don’t put him on the defensive with “People who eat red meat hate animals!” or make him feel bad; try to get him to see your position using facts and logic. Many of our parents are making giant changes in their lives as the world changes. They now recycle, they conserve gas by buying more efficient cars, they have quit smoking, they may have stopped going to church every Sunday, they travel internationally to understand more about the rest of the world, etc. I bet you can identify ways that your parents have changed in your lifetime, right?Changing one’s diet to a more sustainable or healthier diet is one of those changes that may be slow, or may not even happen, but we see examples of this all around us. Healthy “fast food”, organic produce in large markets, grass-fed beef, etc. So, it’s an evolution. Work with your dad, and don’t push too hard. He may come around, or you may have to wait until you live independently. But you’re on the right side of history.Chuck

How do I tell my parents I'm becoming a vegetarian?

If you wish to consume just fish you will be a pescatarian. Now if you want to be a vegetarian I would suggest that you start out slowly. Explain to your folks that you would like to incorporate a few vegetarian meals into you diet. Do not try to go whole hog overnight. Let them get use to the idea. I also suggest that you learn to do some of your own cooking.

I'm 13 and I wanna be a vegetarian but my parents won't let me!!!!?

Make sure you do research on what nutritional supplements you can have instead of meat/dairy to ensure you're getting the right amount of protein, iron, etc. My sister has been a vegan for a year now and she is definitely having some major health complications from it because she hasn't been able to compensate for all of her needs.

My advice to you would be to scope out some vegetarian/vegan dishes and see which ones you like. Maybe buy a cookbook, or look up some recipes online to ease your parents' concern. It's a major lifestyle decision, and it can do damage to your body if you're not eating correctly.

Best of luck, and if you have any questions feel free to email me! I can ask my sister! :)

How can I convince a vegetarian to eat meat?

A2A:If you really want a vegetarian to eat meat:Ask yourself why … - do you have control issues? do you have a problem with people?is there a shortage of vegetables? have all the vegetable been fed to caged animals to produce less food value than they were as vegetables? If it is a member of your household — are you too lazy to cook for them yourself? if it is then just get the vegetarian to do her/his own food preparation!I respect your right to kill animals and only eat a small proportion of them (very few people now eat offal e.g. blood sausage (black pudding), haggis, tripe, liver, kidney, brains, tongue, marrowbones). Can you not respect others?introduce the meat with respect that an animal died a (most likely) horrible death to provide this food which has less value than the original vegetables which were used as its food.introduce it in only small portions - just as you would with babies because the human body has to adjust to the bad things in meat and the liver has to work so much harder to clear out all of the problems that are in meatunderstand that in most first world countries most people eat way more meat than their diet requires so be respectful of amounts that are served.understand that the vegetarian CHOSE to be vegetarian despite the pressure that many immature, not self aware, uncaring, bigots try to put upon the vegetarian.Rethink your bossiness and control issuesSit down with the vegetarian in a discussion of mutual respect and tolerance and exchange views about the level of disrespect that you wish to show this personUltimately I suggest that you do not take this terrible step of interfering in someone else’s life.

Do you have any tips on becoming pescetarian as a teen?

A person who does not eat meat but does eat fish is considered a pescetarian .It is a very good idea to have a diet consisting of fish, fresh vegetables and sea foods.Start slowly by eating a mix of foods that you usually eat everyday.Start by replacing the poultry by fish or sea food like crustaceans. I am an 11 year old girl and I want to be a pescetarian, but my parents won't let me; what do I do?

You need to learn “selling skills” or the art of persuasion so you can turn their “no” into a “Yes”. Some quick suggestions.1) Find out WHY they won’t let you. These are their objections.Do they not know what it means?Do they think it will be a hassle making a separate meal for you at dinner?Do they think it is unhealthy and you want get enough of some nutrient?Do they think it’s a hippie-freakish thing to do and they don’t like hippies?2) Overcome each objection.Explain what parts of what you are already eating stay the same, what will change.Brainstorm time/hassle solutions. You could cook for yourself. Or they could bake fish in the same dish that they are baking chicken or whatever.Find a list of famous successful people who are pescetariansNOTE: If you haven’t uncovered their TRUE objection, this won’t work. You have to find out the REAL reason why they won’t let you.3) Get them to agree to a trial periodIf they won’t give you a straight Yes, ask if they’ll let you try it for just a week, or a weekend, or a day. This little “win” is a stepping stone to a bigger yes.4) Stomp around, cry, whine, act moody, beg, etc.OK, I don’t like this idea but it seems to work for my 3 kids. Including my oldest who went vegetarian at age 6 when she realized that “Chicken” the animal and “Chicken” our dinner were the same thing.Good luck. And remember, when your parents want to know how you got so persuasive, this conversation never happened.
