How To Cover Up Scars Help

How do I cover up self harm scars?

I’m cheating on this. I answer this question SO frequently I have just gotten into copying and pasting. My methods are all from items that are either in your pantry now, or can be found in most grocery stores. They are usually pretty cheap, too, which helps.First, every other day, at least, you should use a mixture of baking soda and water (or powdered rice, or even granulated sugar would work) to exfoliate the skin where your scars are located. You do not have to burn up your skin, normal exfoliation will still help your scars heal! If you don't have problems using this every other day, and you WANT to, you can do it daily, I recommend every other day as standard.Next, you can use either lemon juice or Apple Cider vinegar as a "toner" of sorts. If you use lemon juice (you can buy the bottle - doesn't have to be fresh lemon) but it CAN burn sensitive skin. If you have a reaction don't use it! Lemon and Apple Cider Vinegar are both used to help remove the pigmentation or discoloration that makes scars so noticeable. I always recommend that if a person uses lemon juice to ONLY leave it on for a few minutes and then to wash it off - lemon juice can be a caustic substance to skin. Apple Cider vinegar is far less problematic, but many people may prefer washing it off as well, although I do leave mine on. You can use lemon and Apple Cider vinegar daily - twice daily if you find that it doesn't bother you.Following that, then for a "moisturizer"..., Bio-oil, cocoa butter, shea oil, Vitamin E oil, Coconut oil, Aloe Vera, and I recently heard that Rosehip Seed Oil has AMAZING properties for scar healing (although I have never tried it myself). One of the most important things to always remember about any scars is that while you are trying to heal and remove scars is to avoid sun. Sun will automatically darken the skin around it making the scar more noticeable. Use sunscreen, sunblock, keep scars covered. My method of scar removal is a lot cheaper and a lot more effective than a lot of the expensive methods - it's also not loaded in chemicals that you cannot pronounce and have no idea whether or not they are damaging something in your body.

How do I cover self harm scars?

Hey I’ve written some of my ways of coping with self harm urges here What are good coping mechanisms to use when experiencing self-harm urges?I’m really sorry it’s come to the point where you have to harm yourself. In terms of covering up, I’m assuming we are talking about cutting. I’m going to take you through my own advice. Some is only relevant to worse cuts, so scroll down for covering/ long term healing. the best things to do:Wash with water and/or saline solution and dry with either sterile gauze or a very clean towelTreat any open wounds: a gaping wound needs medical attention, a smaller open cut you can steri-strip yourself. If you have a gaping wound and didn’t get medical attention, see your GP or dress with inadine under the dressing.Put a plaster or sterile dressing on the wound, making sure you don’t get the sticky stuff on the actual cutTry to keep it dry. If it gets wet, re-dress to protect yourself from infection.Once a scab forms, no more need for dressings/ plasters. You can start using bio oil. This will moisturise and help reduce scaringThe best way I have found to heal scars is run in bio oil, wait for it to dry, then rub in cocoa butter. This helps with scaring and the itchy stage of healing (and it feels good lol).Covering up: easiest way is clothes. Wear long sleeves to cover arms, put an elastic bracelet over the top of the sleeve if you thing it might ride up if you raise or move your arm. People use lots of bracelets to cover arm scars.Make up. You’ll need green and yellow concealer. I followed a YouTube tutorial on covering scars which turned out amazing. It went like this: primer, green, yellow, blend, green, yellow, blend, foundation, blend, set. Basically you have to use the opposite colour to the scar but yeah YouTube it.Please don’t self harm again. I know it’s hard. Read my link above, look online for resources, speak to your doctor or a counsellor, breathe.Good luck and remember that what you feel now is temporary and you can and will get past it. Things will get better.

How do I cover up scars on my wrists?

Makeup. Dermacol has a good rep for being great coverage for a cheap price— I think it works alright. There are lots of brands with full coverage concealers and foundations you can use. Also long sleeves, though that’s really just for Winter/Autumn and picky workplaces. There are quite a few medical ways to deal with them as well, like there are scar reduction ointments that are supposed to help fade scars (or at the very least, turn them from a blindingly bright pink to a more neutral beige/skintone colour). Palmer’s Scar Serum could be an option or maybe this other stuff called “TCM Scar and Acne Mark Removal Gel Ointment” by LanBeNa; haven’t tried it yet.Hang in there. Personally, I don’t try to cover my scars— partially because there’s just too many and partially because i’ve embraced that they’re just a part of me, no matter how sad it is that they exist or the reason behind them all.

How can I cover up self-harm scars while swimming?

This wont do a whole lot in the short term but works wonders in the long term.

Get vitamin E oil (you can get it in little bottle in the vitamin area- capsules are messy) if you are worried about infection use Neosporin, or other triple antibiotic that includes vitamin E. The amount of available vitamin E in these substances is much lower - the viscosity of the petroleum jelly base makes more difficult for your skin to absorb.
Massage it into the wound. (actually rub it in, don't just slather it on and cover it up)
Do this once to twice daily, and dont let the cuts dry out too much as they heal. Vitamin E works wonders on the prevention and minimization of scars.

There are other recipes and commercial options are out there too (Mederma, for example) that soften the appearance of scars. However these other methods are contraindicated before the would is completely healed, and cannot prevent the formation of scar tissue to begin with.
Short term, a band-aid is about all you got. Make-up doesn't work.

Can makeup really cover up scars?

Here's a makeup trick to help cover up your scars as much as possible with makeup, depending on how deep and dark they are.

After you get out of the shower and are still warm, put some non scented moisturizer on your arms like putting on regular lotion.
After a few minutes, use some liquid foundation as close to your skin tone as possible, or one shade LIGHTER than your skin tone.
Get a small drop in your hands and rub your hands together, and then use your fingers to gently massage the foundation into your skin evenly.
Then get some concealer that is the shade of your skin, and dab a small amount on the scar, and using your fingertips, gently tap and massage into your skin on the scars.
Finish up with a dusting of loose powder foundation in your skin color. If it becomes oily after a bit, use some more powder to soak it up.

The best thing to do to encourage hair to grow through is massage with vaseline. Deeper follicles can be activated to replace any destroyed by scar formation. Just use your fingertips to massage around the area once there is good scar tissue over the wound. This will also help to speed up the process of contraction of the scar to diminish it.

How can I cover up my self harm scars on my thighs when swimming?

Board shorts. Or swim trunks. Or leggings!Even before my scrapes with self harm, I preferred to be more covered when swimming.I found that mens’ swim trunks are usually the best coverage. Make sure to get a length that’ll cover.Board shorts also work.Or there are some companies that make swimwear lines that are more covering. You know how most Muslim people believe in modesty (for lack of a better way to phrase it)?Yeah. They make swim leggings, hijabs made of material that is okay to get wet, they make long sleeved rash guards, etc. They’re actually really super pretty and the swim leggings I have feel like yoga pants!
