How To Ease Stiffness

Post-Yield Stiffness?

Yes, it is Strain Hardening.Theoretically, atoms in a metal crystal are supposed to be arranged in a regular, repeated three-dimensional pattern. But real crystals deviate from the perfect periodicity, they have defects or imperfections known as point defects, line defects and plane defects. The line defect, also known as dislocation, is the defect responsible for the phenomenon of slip, by which most metals deforms plastically.
One of the chief characteristics of the plastic deformation of metals is the fact that the shear stress required to produce slip continuously increases with increasing shear strain. The increase in the stress required to cause slip because of previous plastic deformation is known as Strain Hardening or Work Hardening.
Strain hardening increses yield strength and hardness which may be beninificial in some cases, but it reduces impact strength and fatigue resistance which may cause premature failure in some instances.

Pain and stiffness in hand after sleeping?

Yesterday morning when I woke up, my left hand was in a bit of stiff pain. It was difficult to make a fist and my joints where my middle and pointer finger attach to my hand were quite stiff and sore when they moved. I massaged the joints all day to ease the pain but it didn't go away entirely. I woke up this morning and my hand is in such pain it is almost impossible to make a fist (I can only make a very loose one) and any touch/pressure to my joints and fingers on my left hand sends shooting pains throughout my hand. What exactly is happening when I am sleeping, why is this hurting and what can I do?

When I dance, my body is stiff. How do I lessen that stiffness and get better and less awkward at dancing?

Think of dancing as self-expression. You can express yourself through dance—express your emotion, for example. Surely you can express emotion appropriately. Now think of just letting that emotion move your body. When you are alone - turn on music that might capture how you feel. When I am sad, I turn on melancholy classical music and let my body move as if it were a leaf and music was the wind. When you are happy, turn on happy music…close your eyes if you need to, and let the music move you. Think of dancing as a way to connect with the music. To connect with others, you smile…you look…you say a word or two, right? Connect with the music using your ears first—inhale the music into your senses. Once you can connect with music, you are ready to learn how to dance the way society expects you to. You can’t exactly just move your body, fling your arms or circle your head to music in public—someone might call the men and women in white coats to take you away! But you can learn once you know how to interface with music. Watch how others move. If you are self conscious, watch yourself in a mirror. Take lessons if necessary. Lessons will teach you the technique, not how to flirt with music. The father of my son was always half a second too slow, he has no rhythm but he was adorable on the dance floor because he enjoyed his skill—connecting with the music. And it showed. I am a dancer - I was trained and I am natural at it, but I thoroughly enjoyed watching him because I saw was someone who was enjoying himself. Enjoy yourself. People are not necessarily watching you, because they are enjoying themselves. Those that do are not worth worrying about—they probably appreciate it that you are dancing or if they are judging, who cares if you are having fun. We all communicate differently. Dance is just you expressing yourself. You say you are stiff. Connect to the music and some of that stiffness if not all of it, will go away. As they say, “dance as if no one is watching”.

Jaw pain and stiffness after tooth extraction?

I had two teeth extracted about a week ago on the same side of my mouth, one on top and one on bottom. Since then, my jaw on that side has been REALLY sore. It hurts to open it up wide, like if I'm yawning, and it hurts to chew. It also feels really stiff and like it might pop out of place at any moment (though it hasn't before). Could this be because they had to inject novocaine into the joint when the extracted my teeth? What else could cause this? I've heard of TMJ disorders...could that be a possibility? I've never had a problem before these extractions and I really hope it's going to go away soon. I'm a little concerned and I am honestly scared that I'm going to dislocate it or something when I'm chewing or yawning. I have a follow up with my oral surgeon on Friday but I figured I would try to get some answers now. Thanks!

Ways to cure a stiff neck?

Stiff neck is a common problem among people young and old. It is caused by sudden neck movements or jerks or by bad posture or sleeping position. You can get rid of stiff neck by following these guidelines:

1)Seek immediate advice from a doctor for stiff neck, particularly when there is excruciating pain.

2)Place a hot water bag on the stiff neck once every hour until the stiffness lessens or disappears.

3)Apply a pain relief ointment. Get a prescription from the doctor, if necessary. Use the ointment on the affected area to warm it up. This will gradually facilitate easier movement.

4)Go in for chiropractic treatment on the advice of a doctor.

5)Get your neck and shoulder area massaged by your partner or by a qualified massage therapist.

5)Take painkillers as a short-term relief from neck pain. Make sure to ask your doctor about side effects.

6)Use a soft pillow and mattress while sleeping. Old and soiled pillows will not provide adequate support.

7)If you have to sit for long hours, it is advisable to take short walks every hour. It will increase the flexibility of neck muscles.

Hope that helps....
