How To Ease The Pain After A Shot

How painful is a gunshot?

I was a victim of an assault when I got shot. I was living in Philadelphia at the time.  I will reserve that story for another day. But to answer your question... it depends on the time frame after the incident and location. My wound was to the fleshy part of my right calf. What I experienced was this...At first there was no pain at all... I was more scared of the having a gun pointed and fired at me - oh... and running for my life was foremost in my mind. I felt there was something wrong down there as I sped down the street. Five minutes later when I felt safer, I noticed a numb kind of sensation with a "tightness" that one would feel after a workout. "Hmph.... I am bleeding... I must have gotten hit. Better find a cab and get to the hospital.", was all I thought of at the time. I began limping to find a pay phone - but the cops were already nearby and took me to the hospital in the back of the squad car. Shock is a great anesthesia. When I finally got to the emergency room, that was when the worst of the pain started.  I experienced a burning pain that would ebb (annoying) and flow (excruciating - almost passed out a few times). This went on until I was given a painkiller. The bullet went straight thru the calf and exited - so I did not need surgery  - just a lot of fluids and antibiotics. I was in the hospital for three days. Mainly to watch for an infection. Daytime was not painful... Nights I needed one small dose of Percoset. The next two weeks at home the pain was manageable.... mostly it was just swelling and blood flow to the area that was the cause of it.  Tylenol was all I needed. Keeping the leg elevated mitigated much of the pain. But when I stood up and the blood flowed to the lower leg area - WOWZA! But it was the mental trauma that lasted for months. Loud noises, crowds, etc would make my head hurt. Reliving the event in my head before going to sleep was the worst... it took a long time for that to stop. But eventually it did - especially when I uttered words I never thought come out of my mouth and followed up on them : "I am leaving here and moving to New York City where it's safe!"Hope that helps.

Cortisone shots for severe back pain?

I've had cortisone injections in my shoulder and my hand. They're not pleasant, but they do work (for me).

The doctor mixes the cortisone with a numbing agent (like novacaine). You get some immediate relief from the novacaine, but the injection itself hurts, to put it bluntly.

Extended relief depends on the person. For me, after a day or two, it offered me a few months relief, and then it was time for another. But everyone is different. Some people report the relief lasts for over a year...some say it doesn't help at all. You'll just have to find out.

You can safely have 3 injections in a 12 month period.

It's worth the 30 seconds of pain during the injection to receive a few months of relief.

How do I ease the pain from a mishap while shooting meth?

Ouch. I assume you missed ? The best method I've found, both to kill the ache AND to prevent it turning into an abscess SOUNDS a little weird at first. But I swear on anything- not only does it work, but it's actually one of the oldest treatments in human history. A bread and milk poultice. You will be amazed at how quickly and well it treats everything from a painful lump from missing, all the way up to a red, hot, pulsing ball of pus that won't pop. Here's what you do- depending on how big the area is, get 1–2 slices of bread. If you want, peel off the crust (makes the paste smoother and easier to spread). Break it up into small pieces and put it in a bowl (if microwaving) or a small pot (on the stove). Add just enough milk to soak the bread and mush it up with a fork as best you can. Then heat it up. Once it's hot, mush it some more and add more milk or bread if needed to make a thick paste. Let it cool a tiny bit and test it. Try to leave it hot as you can stand without burning yourself. Take a spoonful of it and smear it around the area you need help with. Cover it up with a bandage, gauze or whatever and then wrap it or tape it so it stays in place. After 24 hours you can remove it. Most small injuries will be almost healed. Some worse ones require a 2nd or even 3rd time. After 2 though, it will have drawn out the pus and taken away most all the swelling/pain. If you have a few drops of tea tree oil or a 1/2 teaspoon of bentonite clay or 1/2 tsp of activated charcoal, you can add them to the paste for even better/quicker healing.

What causes arm pain after a tetanus shot?

Besides the muscle tension that can make your muscle sore, there is the possibility that your immunity hadn't dropped off completely before you received your booster. Antibodies against tetanus (and diphtheria and whooping cough, if you got a combination vaccine) would recognize the “invader” and attack it.Any time that I have a reaction to a booster (other than the immediate pain of the needle, the muscle tightness, and the pressure from the injected volume of liquid), I take it as a good sign that my immune system is doing its job.

Arm and neck really sore after meningitis shot.

I got the meningitis and dtap shot today. One in each arm. The Dtap one didn't hur much AT ALL. It was a slight pinch and I never felt pain there again. They then went to my other arm and did the meningitis one it hurt MUCH more. It hurt WHILE they were doing it, then a little after. It was like I could feel the stuff inside my arm. About an hour later I got a headache but that went away rather soon. I also had slight pain where they injected it. The pain in my arm has just been getting worse though. I tried rubbing it right after, I did this for awhile and then I did that every so often but it hurts pretty bad right now. I got it about 10 hours ago.. The pain is my whole left arm and neck. Is it normal for the pain to be getting worse? Cause I know its normal to have pain. It hurts to move it, to BARLEY move it and if I don't move it for awhile and then go to, it hurts even more.

Ear pain after high caliber gunshot without ear protection?

After 50 something years of being exposed to gunfire, demolition charges, cannon fire, and other extremely loud noises I know that fullness feeling your having. I was taught at an early age to use ear plugs and other noise reduction devices. Being that this is your first time to have a noise exposure you should recover most of your normal hearing. Anytime you have an exposure to loud noises whether it's gunfire, a concert, jack hammer, ect the noise has an effect of adding up over time. I have to have annual hearing checks because of my time in the Navy, I use plugs, muffs, and I control noise around me but each year there is a small amount of loss because of the past exposures. If the feeling your having isn't cleared in a week see your doctor. Take it from someone who is living with hearing loss, USE HEARING PROTECTION!!! It may seem like a hassle but it will serve you later in life.

Why is my arm sore after i got a SHOT?

Your arm's arteries are the first site where a small amount of the meningitis itself was introduced. It is more concentrated here. Over a few hours, your blood will circulate the contents of the shot throughout your body, "unclogging" your sore arm's arteries and easing the stress/pain.

If there's abnormal swelling, itching, or inflammation, call your doctor immediately.

HELP! Pain in jaw area after novacaine shot....2 weeks ago!?

It sounds like bruising and you have a good haematoma.
Lower injections are basically intramuscular, and we're aiming for the nerve, but where there are nerves there are also blood vessels. Most likely you have had the vein punctured and a bruise has developed. It's not uncommon to strike the vein, but thankfully the bruising is usually negligible. In your case, you've been unlucky. This is not the dentist's "fault" but a risk associated with these injections.
With the damage, the pain causes your muscles to restrict opening (to avoid pain), and this can become self-perpetuating and worsening.
Take anti-inflammatories and when they have taken affect about an hour later practice gradually forcing your teeth open a little bit more each day. Don't overdose on the daily maximum amounts of anti-inflammatories.

Health: Can legs heal up after a gunshot wound?

A gun shot wound to the leg can be relatively harmless when it goes through muscle tissue, but leaves arteries, veins, nerves and bones alone. Unfortunately this is not always the case.Injury to artery: If a major artery is shot, there is profuse bleeding and if the artery is not compressed, the patient can bleed to death rapidly. This needs to be attended to in a trauma hospital right away so that the rest of the leg below the artery does not die off. If the artery is chewed up from the gunshot injury, a piece of artificial artery, called Dacron artery has to be sown in between the two ends. Jornal Vascular Brasileiro.Injury to nerve: Gunshot wound injuries can be devastating. This book chapter reviews these type of injuries. https://books.google.com/books?i.... There is the initial aspect of paralysis of any muscle further down from the nerve injury. But then there is the aspect of chronic pain. Despite surgical reattachment of a severed nerve, there is mostly no satisfactory resolution of the pain symptoms. These direct nerve injuries are often followed by a chronic pain syndrome called complex regional pain syndrome type 2 (CRPS 2). Complex regional pain syndrome. This often leads to muscle wasting and muscle stiffening (contractures). The circulation can also be affected and there is excruciating pain, often in the whole affected limb. This is one of the areas in medicine for which no good remedy has been invented yet.Injury to bones: Bone fractures in association with gun shot wounds are common. When the fractures are complicated as displayed in the image below, the varies bone pieces can be over bridged with metal rods. They will heal into one pice within 6 to 8 weeks.Infections: As gunshot wounds displace surface bacteria from the skin into the body, there can be significant infections following such injuries. Surgical drains are used following surgery so that infected secretions are drained. Secondly intravenous and oral antibiotics are used following the injury until the physician is convinced that any infection has been eradicated.ConclusionGunshot wounds can be complicated. As long as arterial injuries, bone injuries and nerve injuries are attended to and infection is prevented with antibiotics everything can heal up satisfactorily. The only problem may be a chronic pain syndrome from a nerve injury that may leave the patient in pain and with leg weakness for years to come.
