How To Eat Better When My Mom Buys Junk Food

How to eat better when my mom buys junk food?

Okay, so I'm vegan (been that way for three months now!:D) and we have some fruits and vegetables but i always eat them super fast and my mom gets mad because they're expensive, and all my mom buys are like chips and oreos and i have a really difficult time not eating them. and i'm pretty sure oreos contain animal products so i really have to avoid them. i can live without junk food and when i dont have it in my house, i dont even think about it. but when i open up the pantry and thats all there is, well i can help myself. and i talked to my mom about it respectfully and she gets angry and says "Just because you're all high and mighty and eat salads doesnt mean we have to! this is my house and I'll buy what i want. i buy you your food too!" is it selfish for me to want her to stop buying junk food? its not that im trying to lose weight, im 5'3" and weigh 118 pounds and im a 15 year old girl so i dont think my weights a problem, its just i want to eat healthier and have a better lifestyle. any advice? thanks:))

How to eat healthy if my mom only buys junk foods?

She buys “only” junk foods?
I would say start to grocery shop and cook.
Or ask her to add healthy food to her grocery list.
If push comes to shove and she still only buys junk food, do her a favor and on garbage pickup day, empty your kitchen cupboards and your fridge into a big trash bag and throw it away. Tell her you’re doing it because you love her.
Educate yourself about eating/cooking healthy and help your mother change her eating habits.

Eating healthy is about avoiding the unhealthy food as much as possible. Once you stay away from fast food (any restaurant food, really), packaged and boxed food (except for bread, pasta and rice, if you don’t make your own bread/pasta), canned food, prepared and processed food, then you’re left with the fruits/veggies, whole wheat food (the brown kind of bread, pasta), brown rice, legumes (beans, peas, lentils...), lean meat, low fat dairies, eggs and the good kind of oil (olive, avocado, nuts, fish). You can have any of the bad stuff occasionally so they don’t become forbidden obsessions. Have some French fries, or one slice of pizza (with your favorite veggies) or a cookie, once in a while. Just don’t do it every day and watch out for portion sizes.

Also the cooking method can double the calorie content of a meal, so learn about healthy cooking without having to add extra fats, like using a steamer (using water), a rotisserie (using heat and herbs), a slow cooker (using homemade broth and herbs), a pressure cooker, a grill…

Once you cook your own meals, you can control the calorie content because your control the cooking method and all the ingredients. A lot of people are overweight because they keep eating food that they did not cook.

My mom only buys us junk food?

How absolutely refreshing to hear young people COMPLAIN about junk food. The times they are "a-changing." I applaud you, sweetie, for your determination as well as your concern for your diet.
Make out your own grocery list and pass on to mom. After a while it will be second nature to her to shop for the right choices for your and your siblings. Pitch in or fly solo preparing or assisting in preparing the meals. Mom should be VERY proud of you for your choices.

My mom doesn't let me or my sister eat junk food at all. me and my sister are getting really skinny, help?

okay, well im 15, and my sister is 13. and we have never had junk food. reason, my mom. she is a health freak, and hates even driving by a mcdonalds or a taco bell, and cant drive past fast food restaraunts without pointing out heavy people, and saying (See what you would be if you ate that crap). i mean i know shes trying to look out for us, but like seriously its totally not fair how my friends always walk into class from lunch with bags of like chips, or like sodas. and i can't have any. my mom doesn't give me lunch money to buy food from the cafeteria, she packs my lunches, and if i go over to a friends house she tells their parents that im not allowed to eat unhealthy foods.

i have chicken legs, and i need some meat on my bones, i feel uncomfortable with my body. me and my sister are really skinny, and i don't want to get to the point of anorexia.
this is what we are not allowed to eat:
- sugary ice cream
- candy
- soda
- fast food
-burgers
- french fries
- pizza
- tacos
- potato chips
- any popular chip brands
- popcorn
- chocolate
- cheese
- white bread
- cupcakes
- cakes
- cookies
- frozen yogurt
- juice
-chocolate milk
- normal milk
- etc.

What we are allowed to eat:
- wheat bread
- vegetables (uncooked without any dressings)
- salad (what i call leaves on a plate)
- water (no sparkling, just water.)
- skim milk
- lean meat (which tastes disgusting)
- this nasty healthy soup my mom buys
- wheat grass shots
- fruit smoothies, made with water, and without sugar. (allright, but i want more flavor)
- fruits
- low fat yogurt.
- anything that has no god damn taste.

i have never eaten big portions any junk food. the only think that i tried, was a french fry from my friends mcdonalds bag, and it was DELICIOUS! i wanted more but she shared with our small group of friends and everybody ate them. :I i really want to be a normal kid and at least try something good! if i had to choose what to try first, i would choose pizza! i hear its amazing, and i want to try some! i swear! im starving here, and my stomach always feels empty. im pretty used to it though. but help!!! i need foooooooddd!! i cant wait until im an adult and i can do what i want. but what do i do now!?

Help my mom forces me to eat junk food?

Hi, i'm a teenage girl and right now i cannot stand my mom. She keeps on making either greasy food, or buying sugary cookies, which is fine with me as long as she doesnt force me to eat them.
I already have to eat all dinners she prepares (so basically pasta and red meat almost every night). On wednesday she ordered pizza for lunch and put cake on the table as a dessert. On friday pizza as well for dinner. This saturday she ordered kentucky fried chicken for lunch and made pasta with it (and the pasta was shining from the butter she had put on it). She basically forced me to eat the chicken and pasta. And then I have a six year old brother who this morning, as they went shopping, bought macaroons. I was already super full but my mom started making a big scandal "common everyone, time for dessert!!! We bought macaroons!!" and she took out ice cream, and she forced me to have both.
When I say force me, i don't really mean that she literally forces me, but she just looks at me with this commanding stare of hers, and if I don't do what she wants then she starts getting really mad at me and everyone gets paranoid that I'm showing anorexic behavior. If at one lunch or dinner I eat little, she becomes suspicious that Im trying to lose weight. So basically, when we have pizza, I'm expected to eat 3 slices even if I'm not that hungry.
We have dinner with my sister, brother, and dad, and non of them care/are aware of what is healthy, so basically everyone is always super enthusiastic about eating junk food except me. I'm tired of constantly having to put with my mom's commands, which always results in me feeling super stuffed. Right now I am so stuffed I feel really uncomfortable, and I've like this several times during the week, I know i'm going to gin weight. I am not trying to lose weight, but i certainly dont want to gain. I already have fat on my stomach and neck that I hate.
Anyways, sorry for rambling on and on. If you have any advice i would appreciate it a lot.

How do you avoid eating bad foods when your mom buys it?

There is no such thing as “bad” or “junk” food. That kind of demonizing terminology comes from orthorexics who believe that food can be possessed by evil spirits.A healthy diet is a variety of foods, mostly plants, not too much or too little. Any food can be part of that diet. And if you’re old enough to be on Quora you’re old enough to do a little food shopping.See Is [this food] healthy?

How can I eat healthy when my parents only buy junk food?

you have to explain to them that you are going on a diet to lose weight and dont give into food lying around either..as it will take effort on your part..especially in beginning. fresh fruits and vegetables are very cheap..as well as a very large bag of asian rice that will last a long time for very cheap..also, pototoes, bags of lentils are very cheap..(make sure your rice is either indian basmati or thailand or chinese jasmine rice ..as much better quality)

you can eat how much you like if you stay within these 3 guidelines and still lose fat naturally and gradually. You should lose 10lbs each month on average.

1.eat only steamed lean meats, eggs, healthy fruits ,vegetables, nuts, grains, & yogurt..2. drink only water, juice, & milk..3. walk or do some physical exercise 1-3 hour every day.

(btw, recommend you also to buy an electronic food steamer ((Very cheap)) and a rice cooker as makes it very easy to prepare healthy meals ,,add a bit of olive oil and pepper, spices on top of steamed vegeatables, fish or chicken to add more taste if wish as these are healthy too.)

My mom makes me eat junk foods. Help?

I'd just like to say, kudos to you on embracing a healthier lifestyle! You need to talk to your mother. I mean, really talk to her. Let her know that you just don't enjoy those types of foods and that you prefer to eat things that will make you feel good mentally and physically. Let her know that when you eat junk food, it just makes you feel bad. Let her know you are NOT the type of teen to shove in whatever they want to, but you're conscious about what you're putting into your body. That's just the type of person you are; as your mother, she'll need to accept that.

I'd like to add a little more advice on the fact that you're afraid to lie to your mother because God will see. I'm not putting you down because those are my beliefs as well, but personally, I would still throw the junk away! Or do whatever with it. If your mother is making you or wanting you to eat processed and sugary foods that an excess of would do damage to anyone's body, then I think you have a right to go against her on that one thing. I'm sure God wants you to live a long, happy life so it would probably be for the best. When He roamed the Earth, he was not tempted to eat all of these highly processed and "who knows what the heck is in that" foods because they weren't even around then. So I'm sure he wouldn't want you to eat that much junk anyway.

ONE LAST THING - Sweets aren't evil. It's okay to have a piece of your favorite guilty pleasure dessert/food every now and again as long as you're able to control yourself.
