How To Fight The Surveillance State By Cooperating With It

Is Amazon involved in the NSA's PRISM surveillance program?

Amazon's company spokesperson Mary Osako said that they do not cooperate with PRISM.  However, Amazon provides cloud services for thousands of other companies.  Companies like Dropbox and Netflix and many others.  Individual companies who use Amazon's services may cooperate. In an interesting twist, one of Amazon's cloud customers is none other than the CIA.

What are the chances of India becoming a totalitarian state under Modi with all the institutions already captured?

I was assuming this question here after seeing some weird questions about Modi. I will break your question in 2 partA) Chances (Probability) of turning into Totalitarian state - Answer is zero percent. India is democratic country and run by constitution. There is no single incident in 3 Year 7 month tenure of Modi Government when government has interfared with Federal structure of India (BJP ruled or Non BJP ruled states). I will give you few examples where Modi Government was not happy but fully cooperated with Non BJP government and didn't over power them.Nitish kumar Alcohal Ban in Bihar (It was huge revenue loss for Bihar government and Centeral Government)GST implementation after consensus of every states (Government could have over powered them by law in parliament just by calling joint session of parliamentAll states are handling their law and order situation as they were handling it before for example Ban on Durga Visarjan in west Bengal by Mamta GovernmentAll states are making law and amendments as per their needs like in MP , Shivraj Govt has passed a law of capital punishment for child rapist, Every Vidhan Sabha is functioning as per Indian Constitution. Please mention any instance when Modi Government has tried to overcome power of state government to became a Totalitarian government in commentB) Every government institution is already Captured -CBI/ED/Income Tax - All are working as it was working in previous government. Infact in Modi regime I have not seen any case where HC or SC raps CBI or any other institution for working under pressure from central government.Judiciary - It is still working independent and giving decision as per law. I have not seen a single incidence when government forces court to change its decision. Infact SC raps central government many times ie. Uttrakhand and Arunachal Pradesh President rule JudgementElection Commission - Working as independent as it was working in past. In Ahmed Patel’s Rajya Sabha election it favors Congress, Don't forget humiliating defeat of BJP in Delhi Election and also loss in Bihar. Blaming EVM is excuse of loosers .RBI - RBI always works with in sync with Finance Ministry/Niti Aayog. So every government seeks favor from RBI for implementation of its policies. So I don't think your question is relavent .

Will the ubiquity of the Internet make privacy obsolete?

While the ubiquity of the Internet will make it possible for privacy to be violated, the fault does not lie with the Internet in itself. It could easily be omnipresent without being a privacy risk. However, the ubiquity of behaviour tracking as the primary focus of all of our favourite free services (Google, Facebook, YouTube, etc.), and the same companies cooperating with the NSA's indiscriminate data grabbing, makes a complete loss of privacy and the expectation thereof sadly typical. These forces would love nothing more than to render privacy to being popularly considered an obsolete idea, but it's one of those ideals so essential to personal freedom that it will never be completely suppressed. Unfortunately, we must wait for the global surveillance state to reach a catalyst where it becomes unbearable for a higher percentage of the population before privacy is reclaimed as an essential human right.

Which requires more experience - FBI or CIA agent?

I'm not sure what the difference is between the two but am more curious about who has the bigger authority, is tougher and requires more experience to be a member of.

Can a society function effectively and prosperously if the government subverts or undermines trust between citizens?

There are many situations in which governments do subvert trust between citizens, and society goes on.For example, men might be advantaged over women, white people over black, straight people over gay - the government intervenes in these relationships all the time, both to exaggerate and reduce trust between citizens (at different times and in different places), and society continues. And in the recent banking crisis, states around the Western world intervened to help the very rich (bankers) at the expense of the very poor and society goes on.States play their citizens like pawns in a chess game, and society continues, because in lots of ways, exploitation and 'chess playing' are fundamental to the nature of society.
