Immigrant applying for FAFSA ?

I am a senior in High School and have had trouble applying for Financial Aid, in the category where i select my status i selected eligible immigrant but when i submitted my immigration number i was told there were problems with my number. 2 years ago i obtained an Employment Authorization card (Work Permit) that allowed me to legally live in the United States temporarily. Am i not an eligible immigrant for financial ? aid ?

Does your college/financial aid know what you spend your financial aid money on?

A college first determines the total expected cost of that year's education:TuitionFeesRoomFoodBooks and SuppliesTransportation (to/from your home if it is far away)Then based upon the forms you fill out (Typically the FAFSA and sometimes the college board Profile), the college determines the Expected Family Contribution (EFC).Aid is the amount that May be grated after taking total cost (adding the six items at the top) and subtracting the EFC.The aid First goes to offset Tuition and Fees. After that, if you are Not living on campus, the FinAid office will work out a method to give you four monthly payments to apply to your off campus housing and food costs.   It is up to you as a "responsible individual" to spend the money correctly on housing and food.   Otherwise, you will be "out on the street" and/or suffering from malnutrition and most likely unable to complete your studies....NOTE  Federal Funds (loans, etc.) are paid directly to the college.

A u visa holder wants to apply for financial aide...?

Ok so my little cousin has been looking into starting college. She is a UVISA holder. During our research we read that she maybe able to apply for state aid and other types of aid but not Federal aid. Does anyone have experience with this type of visa and financial aid? We live in NYC. FAFSA has also told us she can qualify for non federal financial aide but when we call the school they are not giving us the opportunity to fully explain ourselves and they keep saying no she doesn't qualify.

Do local police departments have the ability to listen to cell phone calls? If so, could this power be abused by an operator?

For Part 1 of question - simply yes, with lawful authorization the police can listen to your cell phone calls as well as intercept text messages, chat messages and discover the location of your phone using its own GPS technology.  Of course, you would have to be committing a crime where any of these tactics would be deemed necessary.  Often there is a higher threshold of evidence required prior to authorization of any warrants or orders to get access to your information this way. There are specific callers and phone numbers that will get identified that the police department will be authorized to listen to during these intercepts. Could it be abused by the operator?  Do you mean the police technician monitoring the calls?  They can't use any evidence collected unlawfully against you and should you discover that the police wilfully obtained evidence knowing there method was unlawful you might want to get some legal advice. However if you just mean could the phone carrier listen and abuse their ability to access your calls?  Unrelated to policing, about a decade ago I learned that an ex of my girlfriend at the time worked for the phone company.  Apparently he was a jealous or curious guy and would often listen in to her calls to see who she was talking to or dating.  I don't know what kind of quality control exists at the phone companies now to prevent anything like from happening in this day and age though.

Can i get in trouble for lying to the YMCA? about financial situation?

I don't know where you live but does your city/state/province/country offer any sort of tax break for recreational activities? Sometimes parents, regardless of income, can apply for a credit for the fees to enroll a child in an activity. It might be worth some time to find out if any sort of tax credits exist if applying for assistance is not going to help you out.

I think if you lie to try to get her into an activity it will really destroy your ability to enjoy it. You will likely not get into any real trouble - probably just banned from the YMCA - but you might suffer some embarassment and even if you don't get caught it will be difficult to go there, watch your daughter have fun, and know you have lied.

I will get some thumbs down for this for sure but I totally understand that you are tired. It is hard to work to support your child and have the time and energy to spend as much time as you'd like with your child. I'd maybe not worry too much about your after work choices being active right now. I mean, you are still going to have to go to the YMCA with her. Does she get absolutel no activity during the day? Why not just chill out together in the evening? You are doing the best you can with the time you have so why not watch something together on tv and then read some books? Lots of kids shows exist that you could watch and then bust out something quiet to do after. You can still put your feet up and spend time with her. Can she do a puzzle? Can you draw or colour together?

It's really up to you if you want to take the risk or take on the guilt of lying on the form. Again, I seriously doubt any really bad consequences exist if you lie. I work in retail and I catch people stealing just about every day and I never press charges. I ban them from my store and carry on. Do you have any idea how difficult it is to deal with the police overy something petty like this? It won't be worth their time. But again, they may call you out on it in front of others or even your child and do you want to risk getting caught after your child is enjoying the activity and having to pull her out for your mistake? I say it's better to just relax with her in the evening and try to do something together on the weekend.
