How to get old Clipper program to run on Windows 7....please read further...?

Hi guys

I have a very old program written in Clipper, and I need to run it in Windows 7, 32-bit OS. Is it even possible?

The program runs fine in Windows XP, so I download the cmd.exe from Windows XP, and as other people have suggested, I tried to copy the cmd.exe to windows/system32 directory, to replace the original cmd.exe (in windows 7). But it could not be replaced. Or am I doing something wrong?

I also did these and the program failed to run properly:

at the DOS prompt - type:

CD \

EDIT AUTOEXEC.BAT

SET CLIPPER=F71;E00

At the DOS prompt type:

EDIT CONFIG.SYS
FILES=100
BUFFERS=41

I'm still getting DOS ERROR 4.

Please help!!!
Thank you very much

How to print using an old Clipper program in a computer running windows xp...please read further?

You've got a couple options ... and since You're in "some form of programming" ... they should be equally simple for You ...

Let's start with this info that explained to me what a "clipper program" was ;

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clipper_%28...

Now, from that description, it seems that the program is just REALLY old and outdated - especially foir any kind of database ... but I'm sure You already know that, and it suits Your personal/specific needs fine.

First option : You should actually be able to configure the ports under Win XP to "redirect" any LPT1 output to ther USB ports, most modern printer drivers actually include control software that is capable of doing this for You, so You might need to get some additional sofwtare over & above the simple drivers for Your printer.

Second option : You can probably continue to code in Clipper if You were to switch to a linux-based OS that has multiple editors / developer environments capable of coding operations ... I recommend starting with Puppy linux from a Live Cd installation to check out how easy it can be - start with the Geany editor. If You like them You can go with a "flashdrive installation" permanently.

Option Three ; If you have a newer system, or upgrade the OS to a copy of Win7, You can run Your Win XP copy inside a "Virtual machine" that will automatically access and redirect the Clipper output to the proper printer ports running in Win 7 ... I personally use "MS Virtual PC2007" with an XP-capable virtual machine and my XP Pro disc for setup.

Option 3 also works best for me because I have many versions of Windows installers from 95, 98, and ME to XP Home and Pro, as well as newer ISO files dloaded for some Vista and 7 install discs. I do system restores/rebuilds/virus cleanouts as a hobby for the last 15 years.

And most systems on craigslist that will run a version of Win7 cost about $45 - $100 ... see the requirements from their website.

G'Luck!!

If you are a programmer, did you learn to code in college, or by yourself? What was your own experience in learning to code?

As you know, I am a Chinese.I started learn how to code in 1992, when I was 13, my parents brought me a game-computer (compatibles of Nintendo FC, with a keyboard, and some typing study application etc.). This game-computer have a Basic on it, so I learn how to code in Basic from the manual of this game-computer.When I was 15, I went high school, our school started a computer lesson. Our math teacher learned how to use computer and Dos, WordStar, GW-Basic,  and taught us. These is a very fancy computer classroom in our school. We went to this computer classroom every week, this is the only change we can touch these 8086 PCs. The only 286 PC was used by our teacher, and our PCs had black-white screen, the teacher's 286 PC had a colour screen. And we only had one year computer lesson in high school. I and one of my good friend, we really in coding, so we brought a book of C, and a book of Borland C++, but all 3 years in high school, We didn't have chance to see Trubo-C and   Borland C++.  When I was 18, just before I went to college, my parents brought me a 586 PC, and the sales of the computer gave me some  pirated CD, include Delphi, VB, VC, C++ builder etc, and some porn pics. And that summer, I learned how to use these development tools day and night.When I finally went to college, We only have lessons about C, dbase, and foxpro. I really didn't like these lessons, I think you will understand, and these teachers who taught these lessons, they didn't know more than me...So, I think can say, I mainly learn everything I need by myself.My blog:How did I learn how to code?

If the moon landings were real, then why did all the astronaut crew mysteriously die after the "mission"?

OK people maybe I phrased this question wrong. Why did some of the astronaut crew before and after the mission mysteriously die? Ok I get it Aldrin, Armstrong, and the third other astronaut didnt die maybe because it would have been more suspicious but my point is that they did murder other astronauts involved in the hoax later or before the mission.
