How To Get Smoke Off Your Clothes

How do you get the smell of cigarette smoke off your clothes?

Any type of smoke smell (cigarettes, bonfire, whatever) can be difficult to remove from the fibers of clothes. First, wash clothes on a 'normal' setting in the washer.  Don't use a 'delicate' setting, as it doesn't provide enough agitation to clean the fibers, which essentially gets rid of the smoke smell.  Also, use warm water when choosing the water temperature.  Make sure you use a premium liquid detergent - nothing generic or homemade. If at all possible, dry the clothes on a clothesline in direct sunlight.  The sun is a miraculous remover of stains and smells.Make sure you don't dry the clothes in the dryer until you are certain the smoke smell is removed to your satisfaction.  Dryer heat can set in stains and smells permanently.

How long does weed smoke take to get out of your clothes?

I'm wondering how long it takes to get weed smell out of your clothes. My friends were hotboxing and passing weed the other day and I had to work later, and now I am paranoid that I smelled like pot when I walked in. I didn't get called out about it but I'm still really worried, like they just decided not to say anything. Do you think I just smelled like cigarettes? I couldn't smell it on myself when I usually can with cigs but I'm not sure. Thanks for the help.

How long does it take for cigarette smoke to come off your clothes?

Smoke gets in-bedded into fabrics and it doesn't just fade away, until it's cleaned away. Dry Cleaners have specific solvents to add to dry cleaned items that will remove lingering smoke residue.
-
Otherwise, it takes a total wash, with detergent, to remove smoke. Any garment that isn't a "natural" fiber, (natural = cotton, linen, silk, wool, leather, suede) will be difficult to remove smoke (or any odor) because natural fabrics will breath and un-natural fabrics and materials don't breath. Polyester, acetate, faux leather, fake suede, plastic, etc..will hold on to smoke & odors.
-
Unless you are holding the cig too closely, it really shouldn't be staining fingers THAT badly..unless you are chain smoking 3 packs per day or something. If so; there's no way to conceal or disguise cig odor on clothing, hair, backpack, furniture, upholstery, etc. It's just THERE until you take measures to reduce it, or have it chemically removed with professional cleaning solvents.
-
Premium cigarettes smell less offensively than the no-name brands. Cigarettes like American Spirit have less of the additives and chemicals and anything that claims to have pure tobacco leaves is less smelly. Some cheap cigarettes really smell worse than others.
-
If you're concerned about smelling badly and offending others than using chewing tobacco would be a means to and end for you.
-
Dry cleaners, carpet cleaners, upholstery cleaners can remove traces of smoke odors with specific solvents. Man-made, un-natural fabrics are extremely difficult to try to remove smoke odors from.
-
You may be indignant about your habit, and unwilling to give it up, but smoking LESS, and only in designated areas (like not in the house, or car) will help with stopping the odor from following you. People DO avoid the offensive smoke odor, and if you smell before you even light up, you'll have to have everything cleaned constantly...or hang out with people who smoke as much as you do.
-
The Tar & Nicotine on the fingers is exactly that. The yellow-brown, sticky stainage is removable with soap & hot water. After you smoke, wash you hands. Use hand sanitizer. Spray with Febreeze, or some liquid air freshener. Keep smoke from anything polyester or acetate..it won't come out. Don't smoke in cars or inside. No way to pre-treat clothes to make the smoke STAY AWAY, sorry.

How do you get smoke smell out of your clothes?

I am a firefighter, trust me this works on all my uniforms.

Use either one cup of Vinegar or two cups of Vodka in your wash cycle, along with your usual detergent.

There are products that are made to remove the smell, I've tried them all, most of them leave your clothes smelling like air freshener and smoke. The above was discovered by an accident. I'd stained one of my shirts and washed it with Vodka and wow the smoke was gone (so was the stain)!!

How do I get rid of cigarette smell off my clothes?

Febreeze always works. And you can always change clothes or wear a jacket. I rarely smoke but I think it helps to smoke while wearing your jacket and then take it off. That way the jacket absorbs most of the smell and your shirt doesn't smell.

And make sure febreeze your car, wash your hands, and chew some gum (not a breath mint)

How do i get cigarette smoke smell out of my clothes?

The best way to get rid of cigarette smells on any article of clothing is to wash it! Here are a few tips that work! I am a smoker and have been for a long time and these things will rid your clothes of the smell of smoke! Detergents: Oxygen cleaners (Oxyclean) are particularly helpful for clothes that reek of cigarette smoke.
Dryer sheets: Fabric softener sheets are effective at absorbing odors and bringing back that fresh sun-dried smell to your clothes. Pop the dry clothes inside the dryer with three or four dryer sheets, and let them spin for around 15 minutes.
Citrus: Peels from lemons, oranges, and lime have powerful cleansing properties that help remove all sorts of foul odors from clothes, including cigarette smells. Add citrus peel to the water during the first rinse cycle to get rid of the remaining cigarette odors from a load of laundry.
If you are worried about your Mom catching you as you walk in the door before you have a chance to change and clean up try these things! Rubbing alcohol: pat a small amount of 70% isopropyl alcohol on the parts of your clothes that come into direct contact with cigarette smoke, like your sleeves and pants legs.
Cologne: splash or spray a bit of cologne all over your body to mask the smell of cigarette smoke.
Talcum powder: sprinkle some baby powder on your clothes, and dust off the powder. The talc absorbs some of the odors from cigarette smoke, and also gives your clothes a refreshing odor.
Garment deodorizing sprays like Febreeze and Glade help mask and remove some of the odors from cigarette smoke.
Bear in mind that cosmetics and sprays will mask odors temporarily. The perfume will eventually wear off, and your clothes will pretty much smell the same way they did when you last smoked. Don't use too much of these things or you Mom will suspect that you're trying to hide something. It isn't only your clothes that smell but it is also your hair! That is a dead giveaway. Try Baking Soda with your shampoo to get rid of the smell in your hair! It works!

How can you get the scent of cigarette off your clothes?

The number one answer is wash your clothes. The smell of cigarette smoke does wash out. If you are a smoker hang them in your closet clean. Do not allow smoking in your bedroom. When you take a shower or bath put your clean clothes on. If you are smoking on your break or in your car or lunch the 2nd answer would be Febreze. Spray it all over your clothes with your clothes on. Febreze dries very quickly. It removes odor on clothing or fabric. I spray it on my curtains, carpet, in the air. I have a bottle in my car, to use on the head liner and carpets. Since I am a smoker I Febreze myself before I pick up my grandchildren as well as pop a breath mint before kissing them. My daughter and son are non smokers and 3 of my grandchildren have their own nebulizers, have asthma ,and allergies.. This stems not from any person smoking cigarettes its due to public schools, automobile pollution, and air pollution. They live in Rancho Cucamonga, right next to Ontario, where the jets are landing their big planes. And the freeway has traffic jams and u move inch by inch to get where you are going. The sky is black sometimes never seeing the natural sun. My 3 grandchildren live in a beautiful home. They have no carpet, a humidifier in each room that cleans the air. The temperature in their home is set at 68. They have only one cover on their bed. They go outside the winds are blowing their noses start to drip. Its called allergies. The allergies settle into their lungs they cannot breath. Out come the nebulizers, steroids, and other machines. You see my son is quite an expert on this subject because his doctor calls him the bubble boy. He never had allegeries until he went to college in the Inland Empire. They live where they want to and I live where I want to. They don't pressure me to quit smoking. I just respect my sons wishes not to smoke around my grandchildren. I smoke outside on their patio and when they visit me I clean and air out my house and I go outside to smoke. Who wants to be around sick children? My grandchildren know I smoke. I don't want them to smell smoke on me while I am hugging or playing with them. I either change my clothes but i mostly use Febreze.

How do I prevent my clothes from smelling like cigarette smoke?

Air them out. Hang the cigarette smoke infested clothing in the open air. If you can’t hang things outside, hang the clothing in a breezy, warm, and sunlit room filled with lots of green leafy plants to help absorb the odors. Use a fan to create air movement. The length of time you need to air clothes depends upon how saturated the clothing is with smoke and how sensitive you are to the odor. The length of airing can be as little as a few hours to a couple weeks.Soaking. To remove the odor, soak the clothing in a sink or washing machine filled with warm water and one cup baking soda before washing. Overnight is usually sufficient.Washing. After soaking, wash according to the garment care label instructions using unscented laundry detergent. Add a cup of distilled white vinegar to the rinse cycle and stop the cycle. Let the laundry soak for an hour before completing the rinse cycle. To insure that all detergent has been rinsed from your clothing, add an extra rinse cycle but do not add any additives to this extra rinse. If the clothes should be hand washed, follow your usual routine but add the distilled white vinegar to the rinse water.Drying and airing. Dry the freshly washed clothes and linens on a clothes line or clothes rack in the sunlight. The ultra-violet rays of the sunlight will help remove odors and smells; however, bright sunlight can cause dyes to fade so hang dark colors in the shade. The line drying will also provide a final opportunity for clothes to air out. If you must dry in a clothes dryer, use a low temperature setting because excessively high heat can actually cause any remaining odors to set into the fabric by bonding with fibers and dyes.Use a fabric refresher. You may find that a fabric refresher in either scented or unscented formulas, may remove odors. There are in-wash formulas as well as sprays. If spraying, spray the clothing outside and let it continue to air.Store away. You really don't want to store clothes away with any type of strong odor. But, you can place the garments in a sealed plastic tub or heavy-duty plastic bag with a box of baking soda. Leave them sealed for a week or so. The baking soda will absorb the odors-similar to what it does in your refrigerator.Repeat if necessary. Once through this process will effectively remove smells and irritants enough for most people. If your clothes still have bothersome cigarette odors, you can repeat the steps. These methods are safe for all washable fabrics.

How to get the smell of smoke off of dog?

Your family bought a dog whose breeder SLOWLY KILLS the pups with cigarette smoke!!!!?
Maybe you guys didn't know they smoked until you brought the pup home, but it should be illegal to expose any animal to smoke just like it's illegal here to smoke indoors with young children. Don't go back to that breeder in the future. Disgusting.

Anyway, to answer your question, Oxymed shampoo will most likely do the trick. You can buy it at Pet Value, and most other pet stores.

Best of luck with your new pup, and hopefully the pup won't suffer from any lasting effects of second hand smoke.
