How To Link Yahoo Mail Account To My Gmail Address

I'm logged in with my yahoo email account and trying to join a group and keep getting this popup message... "Your email address is not linked to a Yahoo ID. To join this group, you need to link your email address to a Yahoo account." What am I supposed to do?

If the email address you currently use to sign in to your Google Account isn't a Gmail username, you can change it to another email address at any time. To change your username to another email address, just follow these steps:

1. Visit http://www.google.com/accounts
2. Enter your username and password, and click 'Sign in.'
3. Click the 'Change email' link under 'Personal information.'
4. Enter your new email address and your current password.
5. Click the 'Save email address' button to save the changes.

You should receive a verification message at your new email address, and you'll need to click the verification link in this message to complete the change. Please note that for security purposes, you should also get a confirmation email at your old email address.

If you don't use Gmail with your account and would like to add it, follow these steps:

1. Sign in at ://www.google.com/accounts
2. While still signed in, visit the Gmail homepage at http://mail.google.com

All of MY Groups have always worked when joining, but when joining a new one, I keep getting this message "Your email address is not linked to a Yahoo ID. To join this group, you need to link your email address to a Yahoo account". I show to have my Gmail and Yahoo mail addresses in my settings...What is going on?

Being unable to receive group Invitations is a common complaint, but not usually from gmail addresses. Have her check the Spam folder, which is sometimes hidden under the "More" drop-down in the left hand column. There have been reports of some groups where Invites don't reach anyone, so you might try sending a test Invite to some other email address you can check just to see if it is received.

The email list component of Yahoo Groups accepts gmail and other email services without problem. To gain access to the members-only areas of the group's web pages the person will need a Yahoo ID.

If she doesn't need or want access to the group's web pages I would suggest that she subscribe to the email list without a Yahoo ID. She can do this via the -subscribe command (listed in the right-hand column of your group's home page) or by clicking the "Join the mailing list" link if she actually does receive an Invite. Send her the link to the "Joining a Yahoo! group" page for instructions.

It is supposed to be possible to sign in to Yahoo using one's gmail account credentials and then create a Yahoo ID to use in Yahoo Groups. From what I've read, and my own experience, this process seems to be trouble-prone. See the help pages below.

I would instead recommend she create a Yahoo account, and then add her gmail address as an alternate email address in her Yahoo account. That's the method I use. The last help page below tells how to switch to using her gmail address after joining the group with a Yahoo account.
