How To Make Good And Simple Oat Meal Without Milk

Is there any other way to have oats without milk because I have a lactose intolerance?

You can bake oats into muffins, bread and almost everything else. Or you  can still have your oatmeal or muesli with milk if you pretreat the milk  with lactaid drops the day before, or if you take a lactase (with an a)  supplement immediately before eating. I like oatmeal (porridge) with milk too and, like you, I'm lactose-intolerant.

How can you prepare your oatmeal without butter?

Today I rarely cook oatmeal in the morning. Once I’d tasted cooked steel cut oats, there was no going back as I loved the texture, loved the stronger flavor, loved the fact I could add diced apple with dried fruit and cook them all tender right with the oats. It all married into a delicious sweet spoonful one after another. If the question mentioned steel cut oats, I’d say, “Sure! I add about a teaspoon of butter just for flavor”. But I didn’t often add butter to cooked oatmeal. I can’t honestly respond as to why the habit never took in childhood or family tradition. My take on the question of how to prepare oatmeal without butter is to simply don’t: or add a spot of cream or whole milk if you want the mouth feel and warmth of a milk fat.Now if the question expanded beyond oatmeal to other types of porridge, then, oh yeah, definitely polenta, white American grits, cream of wheat, rice pudding, all of those deserve butter. Eating one of these smooth cereals without butter is the hug without the kiss.

What are some good recipes for cooking meatloaf without milk?

Who puts milk in meatloaf? Not me! I learned to make meatloaf by watching my mom, and she never used it. Ground meat, one egg per pound of meat, enough bread crumbs (the dry kind that come in a cardboard canister) to get it to the right consistency (sorry, no measurements, that’s how she did it). Minced onions if you’re feeling ambitious. But here’s a recipe from Food Network that doesn’t use milk Good Eats Meatloafhere’s another one Mom's Meatloafand another Sweet-and-Spicy Meatloaves

Can I eat raw oats directly (without cooking) with milk? Will it disturb my digestion cycle?

No my dear friend like you cannot eat rice without cooking in the same way you have to cook oats else you can have a stomach ache. At least you can soak in water for some time and then mix some masala to it and then have it. Eating the other way can create an imbalance in your digestion cycle to a little extent.

What to put in oatmeal?

I find that you do not need to add simple sugars like brown sugar or honey.
My theory is when adding foods to oatmeal is to focus on protein, fibre and healthy fats. It's alot more filling that way :.)

When I cook oatmeal, using old fashioned rolled oats, i use 1/2 skim milk, 1/2 water. Adding low-fat milk adds protein to the meal, makes the cooked oats creamier & adds some sugar (lactose).

Some additions you could include:
* Spices - cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla essense, allspice
* Fresh fruit - banana, apple, pear, blueberries, strawberries, peach (for fibre and sweetness)
* Vegetables - pumpkin or sweet potato puree
* Nuts - walnuts, almonds, natural peanut butter (for healthy protein and fats)
* Seeds - linseed, chia, etc (for protein and fats)
* High-fibre grains - wheat germ (a good source of both fibre and protein), bran etc
* Low-fat dairy - plain greek yoghurt, ricotta, cottage cheese (for protein and calcium)
* Beaten egg - whole or white, mixed in during the end of the cooking process (it's a way of adding protein and gives the cooked meal a bit of a custard-like texture when added to milky oatmeal)

For example, my current oatmeal combo includes allspice and chopped pear/apple cooked with the oats, with added chopped walnuts, wheat germ and low-fat greek yoghurt.

And my all-time favourite combo is wheat germ, natural crunchy peanut butter and sliced banana. Very yummy and filling :.)
