I'm very sorry, but to be honest i have to say its probably you not the cello. Even the worst cellos can have a great tone brought out of them. Some basic things that might help: Are you over rosining your bow? many people do this and make a huge scratchy sound which is rather disgusting. Your bow shouldn't have huge amounts of rosing flying off it whilst you're playing. I'm going to guess that you probably need to play closer to the bridge and maintain the contact point. Don't play right next to the bridge, but i've seen so many cellists who 'skate' and make bad tone. Find the place where your cello likes being played. Change your strings. Possibly, your strings are too tight, and you should try some looser more flexible ones (I recommend D'Addario Helicore Strings, although they are expensive, if you are serious about it you should try them), or it could be your cello does not have a 'centred tone' so you should try L'arsen Strings, which are much stiffer, generally have a much more firm tone, but are also even more expensive. Keep trying, and refine your technique to find the ideal way to play your cello, the way that it likes to.
