How To Not Be Scared On A Skateboard

How do you skateboard if you're scared of heights?

Even if you arent afraid of heights, the easiest way to learn to skateboard is by working your way up.

First skate on the streets, then get used to the little up and down ramps.

Then go to a really little quarter pipe, and then try that, then a bigger quarter pipe, and then a half pipe.

Trust me, if your scared, this will help alot

I'm scared of riding a skateboard?

I just found an old skateboard in my basement and I decided I want to learn how to ride.
When I'm bored, I practice balancing in my room. But when I feel like I'm really ready to ride outside, I just chicken out. I'm afraid of falling and hurting myself badly.

Do you have any things that might help me get on a board and finally learn how to ride? Thanks :)

Fear of skateboarding?

in the words of jake phelps "if you are afraid of getting hurt, you shouldn't skate." getting hurt is a part of skateboarding. if your afraid of getting hurt then i don't see why your skateboarding. your going to get hurt a lot. so its just something your going to have to live with.
just try to imagine it as a flatground ollie. get the first try over with. the first try is half the battle. as soon as you get done with the first try you'll realize its not that bad so just stick with it. and like aner bob said, always visualize yourself doing it and landing it. it actually really helps, i landed a tre by doing that

How can I get my dogs to not be scared of a skateboard?

bring it in the house put it where they can sniff it leave in for a few days roll it around nothing on it so they get used to the sound then just ride it yes in the house for a few minutes everyday. then take it outside do the same things the dogs will be okay with it the sounds of the wheels is what bothers them

I'm a girl, I want to skate but I'm scared?

There's no need to be scared! Although starting out on a skateboard can be pretty scary at first, granted.
Having a friend to learn with is the best way to get through learning the basics as it'll make it a lot more fun and you can both motivate each other to keep going.

And yes, there aren't many girls in skateboarding compared to the guys, but there are plenty of girls out there doing it and most male skateboarders think that this is awesome! I sure do, I want to marry a female skateboarder one day :D

As for people questioning you and why you'd want to do it, don't let their opinions stop you, skateboarding is probably the best thing to happen to my life, I sure as heck wouldn't let anyone change my mind!
If you don't have much cash, you can work around it. You don't want to be spending $200 on your first board as you'll only need something basic to start off - avoid the cheap and nasty boards from Walmart and places like that though. The best thing to do is go to your local skate shop, tell them your budget and they should be able to sort you out something good.

Skate parks can be pretty intimidating at first - it's probably best to get the basics down in your driveway or in a quiet car park before heading straight for a busy skatepark. You won't get called posers unless you are just standing around not doing a lot or getting in people's way. It doesn't matter if you are ollieing 12 stairs or just learning shove-its on the ground, if you are learning something new then all is good. All of us skaters know the feeling of learning a new trick, and you can't really rip on someone for trying right?

So go get yourself a board, and skate to have fun. Before I even started learning tricks or going to parks I spent a good month just skating around in the street, doing laps of the town centre, learning to ollie twigs and roll off of curbs. If you can feel comfortable and like you're having fun then your enthusiasm will shine through!

Good luck!

(P.S If you need any more inspiration, go on Youtube and look up Lacey Baker, Amy Caron, Lyn-z Adams Hawkins, Vanessa Torres, and the Villa Villa Cola team - all awesome female skateboarders!)

Fear of skateboarding in public?

if you just found a group of kids that skate or even like a filmer or something you would be more comfortable skating and honestly it doesnt matter what people think of you. u only get one life and letting other peoples thoughts of u get u down then u need to rethink life. its unhealthy to stress over other peoples thoughts. honestly, if i were u i would just go out and skate and have fun. thats just what skating is about. having fun. so just go out and skate, then get ur best stuff on film. and if ur scared to skate in public build like a private miniramp or something

Why am I so scared when I'm skateboarding, even though I've been practicing for two months?

I’ve broken so many bones skateboarding, narrowly avoided head injuries, almost been run over by cars. i'm not trying to discourage you or anything, but even pros run a huge risk. It's an extreme sport and there is tons of risk involved no matter how good you are or how long you've been practicing. Your body seems to know this, you will get more comfortable as you get better, but it is good to be a little afraid, even if it just makes you more aware of yourself.also, google “how to fall on a skateboard” if you havent already, it's such a useful skill to have and gives me a lot of peace of mind often.and like, i don't wear a helmet so i can't beg you to, but if you think it would make you feel more confident on the board, do it, it's worth it.

Why do I suck at skateboarding?

Ok so Ive been skating for about 7 months and all I can do is Ollie like 1 foot and manual for 10 seconds. Ive been trying to learn pop shuvits for 2 months and I cant do it. I think Im not progressing because im scared to land tricks. Im thinking about quitting because all my friends started when I did and they can do like 10 times more tricks than me so help!

Why do dogs hate skateboards?

They don’t. Just about anytime that you make a blanket generalization about something you are going to end up on the wrong side of the facts. Dogs don’t like what they are not familiar with, same as most people. Once they experience something they can decide whether or not they like it. Some will, some won’t.Need more proof?
