How To Slowly Turn My Hair Gray / White

Can gray hair turn back to its original color?

I'm beginning to think I'm some kind of superhuman because all over the internet I keep reading that once a hair turns gray, it can't turn back. HOWEVER, I've had a few gray hairs, nothing that I've ever worried about, since I was in high school (I'm 22 now.) I have been noticing lately that when I go to pluck out these gray hairs, many of them have actually turned back into my original hair color of dark brown, meaning that the bottom foot or so of the hair is gray, and the top up to the follicle (say...4-5 inches) is normal brown.

Now, I *did* change my lifestyle a bit about 8 months back...started exercising regularly and eating more fruits and veggies and that kind of thing. And no, I have not dyed my hair.

Anyone experience this, or are my hair follicles doing something out of the ordinary?

Why does hair turn gray?

A persons hair turns white because it continues growing throughout their life whilst the cells in the hair follicles stop producing melanin as you age or because of a genetic propensity to grey hair. I knew someone of 23 with 20% grey and in images his father was totally white by 32. Once the follicles stop producing melanin it was assumed nothing could be done but last year the gene was identified that causes grey hair – IRF4 – although this gene was know to have an important role regarding hair colour it is only now we know it is also responsible for the hair turning grey. The discovery of IRF4’s role means that in future changing your hair or eye colour might well be possible without using dyes, coloured contact lens etc but we need to understand much more about the exact mechanism. It looks like the treatment would be a simple gene therapy meaning red heads could become blondes and grey hair could be prevented and possibly reversed although it might be that it would turn out the treatment needs to be started before the hair colour is actually lost but we should know quite soon how this will pan out.Interestingly although hair loses colour the coloured irises of the eyes don't grow with age and hence remain pretty much the same from your youth to your 80s, as a point of interest newborn babies don't have melanin in their eyes, this is why they have blue or virtually colourless eyes. As the baby gets older the amount of melanin gradually increases, as a result somewhere between 2.5 and 3.5 years of age, their eyes will have achieved their final colour. The amount of melanin is also what determines the actual colour, brown eyes have a lot of melanin, blue eyes have lower concentrations. The melanin is located in the stroma of the iris, which lies in front of the dark epithelium.

I'm only 22, but my hair is turning white! Help me please?

I'm only 22, and today I noticed that I'm growing light gray, almost white hair! We're not just talking one or two hairs, but a handful on either side of my face! I didn't notice it until today because it's usually covered by the rest of my hair, but... Is this normal?

My mother's hair started turning white when she was in her 30s too, but I always took after my father in everything (looks, body type, even hair type). What the heck is going on here? I'm freaked out...

My pubic hair's turning white- normal?!?

Wow, everyone else is being really immature...

Anyway, it might be because you have a lot of stress. A lot of times people don't have all the same coloured hairs, or they start getting grey hairs really early. I've never had that problem, but honestly it's probably nothing serious. If you're really concerned, just ask the doctor next time you are there.

How do you turn your child's hair grey for a party?

I think flour is a great idea! I have done somthing similar with a powder, (dye) and I took a small black comb (like the kind for teasing hair). And start by oarting the hair and sprinkling the powder along the scalp. Then just slightly combing it out to the roots, then sprinkle a little more on to make the roots extra light. I think he is going to look adorable. Alternatively, you could buy some tempera washable paint and use that. Crayola makes bottles you can buy individually at Michaels. (It really does wash out- no problem!)

How does white hair grow? Is it white from the beginning or does a hair slowly lose color and turn white?

It’s very important to understand the hair growth cycle in order to recognize and understand many of the problems you can encounter with your hair such as premature greying of hair. The hair growth cycle consists of three distinct stages – anagen, catagen and telogen.ANAGEN PHASEYour hair grows around half an inch a month, and faster in the summer than in winter. The growth phase, or anagen phase, lasts an average of 3-5 years, so a full-length hair averages 18 to 30 inches. The anagen phase is generally longer in Asians, and can last as much as 7 years with hair being able to grow to 1 metre.CATAGEN PHASEAt the end of the anagen phase, your hair enters the catagen phase. A short transitional phase that lasts approximately 10 days.TELOGEN PHASELastly, your hair enters the telogen phase, a resting phase when your hair is released and falls out. The follicle then remains inactive for 3 months and the whole process is repeated. Each hair follicle is independent and goes through the growth cycle at different times, otherwise all your hair would fall out at once. Instead, you only shed a certain number of hairs a day – up to 80 hairs on a healthy head of hair. How white hair growsAs we get older, the pigment cells in our hair follicles gradually die. When there are fewer pigment cells in a hair follicle, that strand of hair will no longer contain as much melanin and will become a more transparent color — like gray, silver, or white — as it grows. Eventually, the hair will look completely grayTips for healthy black hairRegular application of hair oil will boost natural hair growth and prevent premature greying of hairApply onion juice once a week as catalase in onion juice will enhance healthy black hair growthDo at home regular hair spa , process is explained below and this will add natural shine to your hairInclude below superfood recepie in your diet in order to grow natural black hairProtect hair from harsh sun raysPay attention to diet and drink lots of waterFollow all and get healthy hair likeTake care :)

Why is my grey hair turning back to my natural color?

I may not offer you an answer since it's just my personal view on what's happening to me. I'm 47. Since I was small and up until around 40 my hair was thick, dark brown. Like a brush ;) - after 40 both my beard and my hair slowly started getting here and there onebor two grey hair… Mainly facial and head wise - more around the ears at first. It began with 1/30 of grey hair and gone to 1/7 until my late 45 - 5 years. Slow. Last year I started the irreversible process for closure of one of my longest chapters in my private life.On that path…I also found inner peace.I don't hate. I don't resent. I do not blame noone. Never ever.So couple of week ago my nephew tels me: Your hair are darker than they used to be…Good enough for me ;)

I found a white hair...and I'm only 16?!?

I found a white hair at the back of my head, a single strand of white hair in my head of dark hair. I'm freaked out. Why do I have a white hair? I'm only 16 years old this year.

I read that hair turns white because there is no more dark pigment in the hair...but that only happens when you age, when you're 60, not 16!

There are some girls in my school that have white hair, not just a strand or two, but maybe half of their hair on their heads..some say it's from their parents, and some say that the white hairs are caused by stress..

Both my parents did not have white hair in their younger days. My father has glossy black hair while my mother has dark brown hair. My father got a few white hairs at the age of 50+. My mother, who is around 40, hasn't got any white hairs, but she has a few gray ones. I suppose it's not genetic, is it then?

What's causing the white hairs?

Does stress cause white hairs?

Is it because of some ingredient added in shampoo?

How can I prevent them from becoming white?

Is it true that if you pull a white hair from its root, 3 more will grow in place?

I'm just worried about having more white hairs..I'm very proud of my smooth dark hair. I'm not one for dyes.

Please help!
