How To Style A Synthetic Wig

Can You Dye A Synthetic Wig?

No you cant dye a synthetic wig because it will ruin it! Don't ever try to straighten it either, i did that to my one once and it burnt and broke of like a piece of rubber then went hard =[

But if you want to dye a wig, make sure its 100% human hair, the brands, ' ''virgin'' and ''yaki'' and ''remy'' are very good for dye and tonging etc.

But i would suggest if you have your heart set on a synthetic wig or perhaps if you dont wont to splash out on human hair, just make sure that when you buy your wig you get the right colour and style you want, because there is no way to change the style or colour of a synthetic wig.

Invest in either or both of the following:-Rollers (hot, foam, magnetic, etc)-A hood dryer or clothes steamerIt's a MYTH that it's impossible to style synthetic fiber, it's just not usually done as you would human hair.Nowadays most synthetic weaves and wigs are sold as "heat resistant", but frequent exposure to high heat will melt and frizz synthetic hair over time. It is possible to curl or flat-iron fiber specifically labeled as "heat resistant" but results vary. The absolute best way to style synthetic hair is with water and heat (aka STEAM!)If you're looking to add curl to a synthetic wig you can use hot rollers or wet set the hair (with your chosen roller) and place the wig under a hood dryer (low heat) until completely dry.If have many synthetic wigs or just want to do some serious styling, invest in a steamer. I'm a wig-maker and I kid you not, I regularly use a clothes' steamer to style ALL of my synthetic projects. You can curl or straighten synthetic hair with a steamer, which is how almost all non-human wigs are done -even in film and stage.I bought my steamer on Amazon and use it weekly, all it takes is distilled water.

Synthetic wig please help me ?

1. Yes, you can straighten it, but this would be a permanent change. You can curl it again, but it's a hassle and it won't even stay for more than a day. To straighten a wig, just pin it to a wig head and then carefully brush out any and all tangles. Once this is done, shove the bottom of the wig head (there should be a hole there) on to a plunger or a similar device and then balance it in a bathtub so that the hair won't touch anything other than the wig head. Now, go boil some water (or you can gather some from your sink if your water heater gets hot enough) and then slowly pour the water over the wig. Don't just stick the wig head under a faucet, though, or the pressure will rip out the hairs. After it's all soaked, leave it there to dry and then come back in a few hours. Brush it out and see how it looks. If it's not straight enough, then try spraying in some conditioner, pouring the hot water over it, and then gently brushing the areas that weren't straight enough with a wide toothed comb. Repeat this 2-4 times and then let dry again. Be careful when you're brushing it while it's hot and wet, since you can rip out fibers, but brushing it while both hot and wet is the only way to get a stick-straight wig. Here's a picture of a wig that I straightened (it started out with ringlets): https://www.t-mobilepictures.com/myalbum...

2. Yes, you can use hair spray on a wig. However, human hair hair spray crusts over in wigs and can also make the wig looks like it's two different colors. It also doesn't hold quite as well. Here's a wig that I styled with hair spray: https://www.t-mobilepictures.com/myalbum... Here's another wig styled with hairspray. With this color, the shade difference is more visible: http://i479.photobucket.com/albums/rr152...

3. Yes, you can blow dry a wig. It's just not recommended at all, not even with cold air and on the lowest setting. Now, I've blow dried wigs (medium heat on low) as an experiment and nothing happened, but it's always risky.

4. Yup, you can wash it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awRsFqpSkvg

5. There are all sorts of styles you can do. I'm not much into styling my wigs because I'm scared I'll damage them, but you can get away with almost anything except high pony tails. If you put a wig in a pony tail, make sure it's low so that none of the weave is showing through.

Can I shower with a synthetic wig?

I do not agree with the other poster. Your synthetic wig will not lose it's shape because it gets wet. You can wash synthetic wigs and they make shampoo for them. Water will not damage it. If anything it will get tangled; you will need to be careful detangling because it's not as forgiving as real hair.

Do synthetic wigs look realistic?

There are two basic things to make a wig look realistic: choosing the right wig and fitting it onto your head correctly. 1. Choosing the right wig Synthetic wigs come in a variety of types of plastic fibers, the best types of which are kanekalon, toyokalon, and modoacrylic. Kanekalon and modacrylic have that "Pantene shine" to them, while toyokalon has the look of relaxed hair. There are also variations of these three types of fibers, so quality can still vary (some toyokalon looks realistic, some looks shiny). Fortunately, you've picked a good brand of wigs (Forever Young), so you're good in that department. It helps to choose a wig with bangs and a natural color to make it look like real hair. Again, you will be fine there. However, some people have problems with certain hair colors clashing with their skin tone. Usually the complaint I hear is from very fair-skinned people looking strange with light blonde hair. Bangs cover the "hairline" of the wig, which does not look like a real scalp and can easily show that you are actually wearing a wig. 2. Fitting the wig. It does not matter if you grow your hair out or not. I know successful wigwearers with hair to their butt or with chin-length hair. What matters is that you get a WIG CAP. They are cheap, (about $1-$2), and is a nylon stocking for your head. To put on wig: First, secure your hair so it is as flat on your head as possible. If you have lots of hair, get it as flat as you can, but concentrate any "leftover hair" towards the nape of your neck, because wigs stretch the most there. Put on the wig cap, and secure it with hairpins or bobby pins. Put the wig on over it, and you will feel that there will be a tab on each side of the wig where the front "hairline" ends. Each tab should be in front of the ears, and use these to make sure your wig is on symmetrically. There should be adjustment hooks in the back to make the wig fit you. Once you get it adjusted, secure wig to wig cap with hairpins or bobbypins. Make sure the back of the wig is pulled down and pinned properly--not doing so often causes weird lumps at the top of your head. As a tip, stretch out the wig cap for a week before wearing the wig, because it can come sort of tight and cause headaches after awhile. If you have a wig head, you can stick the cap on there, or stick it onto something about the size of your head.

How do you get hairspray out of a synthetic wig?

well you can wash it but it's weird the water always like sticks and doesn't go in the hair and it's weird. i'd run it under warm water then put it in a dryer after towel drying it first. or blow dry it.
