How To Survive Your First College

How do I survive college?

I'm 20 & currently a freshman. I'm actually supposed to be finishing my sophomore year by this May but I got kicked out of my first college for something I didn't do & frankly I don't want to share the painful details. Anyway I applied to the school that I go to now but my parents made me start all over, hence me being a freshman. I started summer school & it all went downhill from there. I was costantly in a out of the financial aid office due to money isses, I didn't do very well in my classez & due to non payment, my classes were dropped. I tried my best to get reinstated & my older sister had to pull out a huge loan to put me back in school. But then the depression happened. I declined mentally & I skiped classes & withdreq mid semester. As a result, I lost the rest of my financial aid. I was heartbroken. This semester, I'm doing much better because I have better teachers & classes but I'm still haunted by the the awful last few months of last year. I still have financial issues & this time my sister isn't willing to help. Even my boyfriend, who's older & has a job can't help me. I'm afraid that this semester will be a repeat of the last. What do I do? I'm so miserable.

How to survive the first day of high school?

im going to be a freshmen in college starting this september.. so ik how it feels...

but high school is easy. Most of the time, upper classmen are very very helpful.... unless you have a mean school haha...

dont bring school supplies (besides the regular pencils, ruler, pens-black and red) because the teachers will tell you what you need on your first day of class.

my advice, bring one notebook to write down all the stuff you need to bring.

dont bring giant binders that zip closed that hold all of your notebooks and folders. They are nerdy, look dumb, and not to mention are a pain in the *** to carry. For math class, buy a divided note book. one section for notes, one section for homework. It works the best.

clothing? well, for one... wearing school gear will help you fit in.. but if you try too hard you will look stuck-up.. just be yourself. wear something you're comftorble in. The friends you will find in high school will be better if they like you for being real, so just do it from the start otherwise you will end up having friends who back stab you. Trust me, i learned the hard way. Dont TRY to fit in with a group, just be yourself and the group will find you :)

But over all, no need to worry. High school is a game that you have to play. There is gunna be drama and there is gunna be people who will make your life hell, but if you are confident and honest with yourself, all of that will be kept to a minimum.

oh, and another thing, if your not sure who you wanna be in high school, or what you are interested in, or where to find friends, TRY EVERYTHING! attend club meetings that you think just might be interesting, and you will be surprised what you like.

I'm not gunna lie, your friends from jr. high will change, and so will you. You will take classes that meet your specific goal for the rest of your life, and you will find people trying to do that same thing in the same classes you take. If you notice that you have the same person in alot of your classes, talk to them! they prolly are pretty similar to you!

How did you survive the first day of high school?

Well, this sure brings back memories.Knowing me, I’m not much of a person who would bother to talk to other people. All throughout mid school, I was such a loner that I thought it didn’t matter if I had friends or not. Although I naturally attract people who had the same interests as me, it was kinda hard for me to really keep that connection for so long. When I first entered high school, it was like any normal routine of being in an assembly with familiar and unfamiliar faces. We were all sent to a temporary class that had around 30–40 students (Yeah, it was cramped). We had to take an aptitude test that would fully determine which class we’d be suitable to be in.On the first day in class, we had maths. All my reaction was(oh no)Being in a Chinese primary school, it was an otherworldly experience. I was the fastest counter, sure, but my test had the most errors because the chinese method for finding our tens, hundred, thousands were so different. And luckily! It wasn’t the real test, which would have made lil ole me panic so so much. Whenever I think about it, I’d tell my other chinese friends and we’d laugh together about it.I sat near the teacher’s table, which was cool with me since I had no one to sit with anyway. Though I had to suffer through one of the teacher’s machine gun mouth, all of them were pretty chill and had a totally different feel than my past teachers. The class monitor was a dude who had huge balls to talk back to the discipline teacher, but he was friendly enough and I got to talk students who I never thought about talking to.My first day was full of surprises and meaningful experiences. I thought that my past ideals would stick by me, but now, I think that I’ve grown so much from then. Currently, I am a senior. Almost half of the guys who I was introduced too on the first day had already either been kicked out or dropped school. Yes, they had disciplinary problems, but they were also the guys who let me in on jokes, hardly left me out on conversations and actually respected my opinions. All in all, it was like any typical school day. Sometimes, you’re not so sure how to actually fit in and all that. That’s totally fine. For me, I give it time.It may not be the most exciting or life changing for the most part. But being there and just trying to slightly come out of your comfort zone will be worthwhile.Have a great day!

What should students do for the first year of college?

I can only speak from my experience but I would advise any prospective student to enjoy the journey, after all it isn't everyday that one gets the chance to begin a new phase of one's life. Personally i accomplished this simply by chance as my proscrastination made it so I couldn't pick a very rigorous course load due to most classes being full. Luckily for me this allowed me to ease my way into the college life and understand how to best adapt to what was such a great academic change. So if I had to give an academic tip for the first year it would definitely be to take it easy on the first semester and ease your way into college.Moving on…The next thing I would advise you to do is to explore the myriad options that a college environment offers you in terms of extracurriculars. Join clubs and form connections as early as you can (preferrably in your first semester which should be your easiest semester). This will be crucial in helping you understand what you would like to do in terms of a career and perhaps even net you friends and colleagues that could be useful in future career-related endeavors. And finally….Just chill and enjoy the journey. Life is long and won't always be the same as it is right now. Enjoy this change that only comes about once and meet people, explore the town, and just focus on being you. You will see that if you take it one step at a time and enjoy the journey that is the college experience things will work out just fine. I really wish you the best of luck. Hope it helps!
