How To Tell My Manager I Want To Give Away A Shift After She Said I Couldn

My manager texted me to cover a shift in my day off?

I was scheduled to have my day off today and tomorrow. By the way yesterday I worked 3-11:30pm so by the time I got home it was around 12:30am and went to bed at 1:30am. Then by 7:15am my manager texted me that my colleague (who was set to work at 7-3:30pm) called out sick and if I can work now? I mean really? Should I ignore the text and say that I was still sleeping?

Can my manager withhold my paycheck until the end of my shift?

It is not illegal. One of my employers use to do that, make people wait until the end of their shift to get their check because then the person would either come back late from lunch depositing their check or they would "step out" for 15 or more minutes running to the bank to deposit it. The manager is trying to prevent lost time. If you want your check quickly then sign up for direct deposit.

Couldn't Find Anyone to Cover My Shift at Work?

This is the type of problem you will be confronted with more often as you get older. I know that since your dad gave you the tickets that there is an emotional attachment to the problem. I am just a third person looking in but I don't believe that a three hour concert is worth losing your job over. I am sure if you ask your dad for direction he would tell you to work and he would be sorry for putting you in this situation. There is one thing that no one can ever take away from you and it is hard to earn but it will help make your life a better and easier one. I am talking about your honor or your word. If you quit a job for a concert then when you tell your next employer that he/she can count on you they probably would be laughing inside because they know if there is a concert that you will just quit in order to see the concert. If you don't go to the concert and work your shift, then you are building up your honor so your word is good. My information is only good if you have been working on this job for a while and you don't want to lose the job. If you were already planning on quitting the job or if you have only worked there for a very short time, then go to the concert, it is not the right thing to do but it will not have a huge impact on your life. Thirteen years ago I moved to Atlanta and I was in a horrible situation because I still was making payments on my house in Kansas City and the schools were going to kick my children out because I was living in a apartment in the wrong county because I didn't have enough money to put down on my new house until I sold my other house. I picked up the phone in the schools principal's office and called my boss of five years and told him the situation and told him I needed $30,000 to move the new house in the right county for the school, he told me that he would have a check waiting for me at work. The reason he offered me that money is I have a very honorable good name and he knew I would pay him back. You must ask yourself if you want to be honorable or go to the concert. Good luck on your decision.

How does Mcdonalds’ shift system work?

I had trouble with this because I just started school and wanted less hours. I told them when I got the job I would work as much as they wanted until I go to school. They continued to give me close to but not 40 hours a week and schedule me for 6 days a week (keep in mind this wasn't the only scheduling problem I had with them.) You fill out a availability sheet. And if your a good worker and have a good attitude you'll basically get all the hours you want. Anyways I told three different managers including the one who does the schedule but nothing changed til I went to the general manager and informed him of what was happening. He fixed it asap. So technically they're flexible but you shouldn't have to risk going over 3 managers heads and having them angry at you, even if they were the ones who didn't do their jobs. The other problems were minor things like making me work late one night and having to be there first thing in the morning. Other then the pay my only other complaint (which will happen at any job like this) would be some of my co-workers attitude both from the teenagers and older adults who work there. Sorry I thought I was posting on something else. But I've seen people work two shifts of 3 or 4 hours a week. My longest shift has been 10 hours not including a half hour lunch break. And I've worked 6 days a week at most. So there really isn't a system. It goes more by what they need.

I call in sick. mgmt tells me I have to call to find cover shift. Normal?

I called in sick about 45 minutes before my shift, and initially my manager told me i had to come in, but i asserted that i was sick and could not. so, he let me go. a few minutes later, my other manager texts me that i have to find someone to cover my shift because it will be busy.

I've never had a job where my managers told me, the sick employee, that I had to find a cover shift. It struck me as ****** up, since I was laying in bed with a fever. At my other jobs mgmt too responsibility for this.

Do you think it is cold of my managers to expect me to find a cover shift when I call in shift? Is it there jobs, or should it be my responsibility?

Is it illegal for my manager to not give me my break?

I work part time at a clothing store in my local mall. Our shifts are 4 hours and we're supposed to get a 15 minute break. One of the managers didn't give me my break break because she said 'someone didn't show up so she couldn't give it to me.' This has happened twice now. There's a poster in our bathroom with labor laws & such that says employers have to give employees at least a 10 minute break for every 4 hours. Are they allowed to break this rule for any reason?

I know it seems silly and I don't want to make a big deal out of it but it's really frustrating for me because if my blood sugar gets too low there's a chance I can pass out. I'm not sure if I should ask another manager about this or not. If someone could help me I'd really appreciate it!!!

Can my boss call me and cancel a shift when he want's?

Ive been working for my job for 3 months now, and my boss keeps cancelling shifts sometime's they give me a few day's notice, sometimes they call me a few hours before i start work, today they rang me and left a voicemail on my phone, i didn't check my phone travelled the 7 miles (two buses) to work and then they said ''we left a message to say you weren't at work today) on closer check of my phone the message was left a 4oclock, i start work at 5, i set of to work at 3:50 PM.

Is this legal?

Why do my managers keep scheduling me outside of my availability?

Call or talk face-to-face with the manager and scheduler (if those are different people) IMMEDIATELY when you see you are overscheduled. Say something like, "I can't work on Tuesday. As we've discussed several times, I am only available for two shifts a week."

This is pretty common in retail. The problem is that the company needs to cover their shifts will the staff they have. Sometimes they are just careless about scheduling. Sometimes they don't have enough staff to accommodate a scheduling request. If your boss really can't get it together or afford to give you want you need, you will have to find another job.
