I want to train my bullmastiff towards SchH or IPO, is it possible?

Find your local Schutzhund group and talk to them about it. Bullmastiffs certainly can do it, but it's all about the individual dog.

Is your Bullmastiff from a high working drive line? If not, then he may not have the drive for it.

Bullmastiff puppy is biting during play?

Your puppy is teething so it is normal for them to do this, but you need to train them not to bite you or others. Give them puppy teething toys, bones or other dog appropriate toys and make sure there are plenty so they don't get bored with the same one. As our trainer taught us when your puppy bites you, you make a loud noise to startle them and tell them "wrong" or "no" , stand up and walk away. They will catch on that this behavior is not appropriate and that you won't play if they do this, but you must be consistent. Dogs may be stubborn, but they are not dumb.

When to spay bullmastiff?

My puppy will be 5 months old next week and I just got a call from the vet saying it is time for her to be spayed. What!?! I thought you had to wait until they were at least 6 months. And that if they haven't had their first heat cycle, it could cause major damage. Also with large breeds, I heard you're supposed to wait until a year so they have grown and matured. Am I right? Opinions? My puppy hasn't even had her first heat cycle yet

How hard are English Mastiffs to train?

With English mastiffs early training is essential. You can't have a 200 + pound dog doing as he pleases! But early training will yield large dividends. Mastiffs are extremely intelligent and can be willful if not trained early. They are no more difficult to train than an average dog. Like most dogs, reward treats work extremely well. They want to be with you and are eager to please. One of our dogs would play endlessly with a hard plastic 12" ball. He would try to pick it up in his mouth and kick it with his front legs to move it around the yard. He also would open the porch door knob with his mouth and sleep on the couch once we went to bed. I always thought the ability to amuse himself and seek out a soft comfortable bed as traits of intelligence. All this being said, I feel this is the best breed of dog that has ever shared my life. Get good breeders and use high quality food, and you should get 11-12 years of delightful companionship.I envy your adventure.....

Would a bullmastiff pitbull be liable to bite a intruder without any training?

It’s impossible to tell without a mock scenario (staged intrusion with person wearing a bitesuit) they ran a test a couple years back with people convinced the dogs they had would attack most if not all didn’t . The dogs ranged from pits to shepherds even Dobermans , shutzhund training is immensely expensive yet immensely rewarding for you and the dog .

How do you potty train Chocolate Lab/Pitbull mix puppies?

The same way you train any other puppy (or human, for that matter) : with a lot of patience, a lot of forethought, and a good sense of humor. The old saying about an ounce of prevention beating a pound of cure is apt here. Don’t wait for your dog to signal to you that it’s potty time. You should take her out to do her business at regular intervals, always praising her when she does it properly. Let her know you're proud of her, and she'll quickly learn. You have to be really consistent and vigilant in the beginning stages. Spend as much time with your puppy as you can, every spare minute. You’ll establish a schedule while simultaneously building trust, not to mention learning to read your dog’s signals. When you know the signs, you can tell when she’s just about to squat, and you can head her off at the pass with a loud (but not angry or scary) interruption before taking her out to her spot and giving her the all-clear signal.Whenever my dog had an accident, I always took the blame myself for letting my attention wander until it was too late.No matter how diligent you are, you will eventually, inevitably, end up with a puddle. When this happens, don’t get mad, not even if you unwittingly stepped in it while wearing socks. Positive discipline is always best. Yelling at your pup for making a mess won't get her trained any faster and could actually damage the fragile bond you're developing between you. Don't rub her nose in it! It will only confuse her. In fact, if you can manage it, it’s best not to have any kind of reaction in front of your dog. Just quietly take care of the mess, preferably not in front of her, and vow to be more vigilant in the future.Into every dog owner’s life a little pee must flow. Take it in stride, and make sure you're stocked up on soap. I recommend Nature’s Miracle. I use that shit for everything.Good luck and enjoy your baby!PS: You should also think about crate-training your dog. Crate-training paves the way for even the rowdiest pup to become a truly civilized pal who will be welcome almost everywhere. It has practically limitless benefits for both the dog and household, but so few people either know about or are willing to make the time and effort to do it right. Read up on it and make the commitment. You won't regret it.

My 4 month old puppy is potty trained but still...?

Watch her like a hawk. There will always be some sort of sign before a dog has to "go" - could be a little thing like a sudden shift in attention (i could always tell when "sniffing for fun" became "sniffing for a place to potty".) See if you notice ANYTHING at all. You might be surprised. My friend had a dog who's sign to "go" was to paw at the ground.

I would choose a particular behavior that she exhibits regularly and use that as a cue to go outside. You have to SHOW the dog that you want it to do something to signal the need to go out - that isn't automatic. They won't just know to go paw at the door. Mark a behavior when you see it with a "go potty?" question and hustle her out - no play, no exploring, just stand and wait. See what happens. Eventually she will understand that the behavior you mark is the one to "exhibit" when she wants to go out.

For my dog, if she so much as looked at the back door i hustled her out. Eventually she learned to just go to the door, and eventually she tied that to the "potty" thing. Sometimes it just takes time.

How do you train a German Shepherd/Mastiff mix?

Although dogs shouldn't be attributed with having human characteristics, they are intelligent enough to be able to understand the concept of, and execute, certain actions that their owners require of them - if these actions are asked in a way that dogs find rewarding. So, with this rule in mind, owners have to be clever as well and find a way of training their dog that actually works quickly and efficiently. The Brain training for dog explains how to achieve this ideal - how to speak “dog” so that you’re able to communicate effectively with your four-legged friend. As with any training, the best time to start is as soon as you get your new pet. The fundamentals for successful housetraining are:Crate training is very important so it should be mastered.A schedule is required for feeding and exercising.Play different kinds of games with your dogBe vigilant and patient throughout the training period. House training is most likely every dog owner’s top concern. And it should begin as soon as possible. That's the very first day your dog comes into your home. If you've adopted a new furry friend and spend months in the home without aiding him/her achieve success when it comes to training then s/he’s going to set a precedence that you now need to change. So, concentrate on prevention as opposed to cure. House training comes down to one rather simple skill - being a good dog time manager.
