What are some fun team-building activities?

I like this question because just as in life, a team-building activity must have a fun element to it to be successful, engaging and effective. With that being said, fun is such a subjective word and that’s why it is typically hard for the person organizing a team-building activity to please everyone.Here are some guidelines that will help you, that person in charge in choosing the right team building experience that will put a big smile on everyone’s face.Look for an activity that everyone can do (you can’t build a team if only part of it shows up and participates) and involve everyone to do it (sorry scavenger hunts, fun but if everyone is off alone, where is the team element?)Stay away from activities that alienate people, like overly physical team games, Olympics or ball playing. The over aggressive participants will instantly push those non-physical people away and once again, you can’t build teams with only part of them participating.Anything that centers around the arts is great. As in the photo above, culinary team building is tops in our book, it appeals to all of the senses, you get to eat what you prepare, everyone if familiar with the concept of cooking, and well, it’s food dud! What more do you have to say! A close second would be music and rhythm (yes the Drum Cafe does this well), it’s been said that two thing that two things transcend cultural barriers, food and music and with more and more diverse work teams both solve that problem. Other art option are interactive sculpturing and mandala painting and others like this.Do things that challenge your team but not to the point of frustration.Do activities that are different to the activities that you normally do at your work place. For instance, if your a bunch of engineers, don’t have them do overly cerebral brain teazers. Give them a challenge in something familiar, but different.
