I Always Get Anxious And Stressed In Games

Why do I always feel stressed or anxious about basketball?

I'm a beginner at basketball and I've been playing with my team for 2 months now, I'm currently taking a break because I have a lot of schoolwork to do.

I started playing basketball because I thought it was fun and I was very interested in seeing how far I can push myself, it truly is great when you can just dribble the ball and forget about everything for a moment but, I've always had this tight and disturbing feeling in my chest every time I think about the game.

Because there are so many different kinds of thoughts and feelings mixed together, I'll just point out my biggest issues:

- I'm the weakest and the most inexperienced in my team.
- I am in the way for my teammates every time I do mistakes, this is so obvious.
- I always make up excuses and run away.
- I'm not used to doing something without gaining something, in short: my brain thinks that basketball is not gonna take me anywhere. (This is how I actually think, I'm not going professional or something. I just want to play for fun but it's very difficult when my mind is unfocused on thoughts like these.)

What should I do?

I feel very free without having to play basketball these weeks, but my everyday life feels a little empty when I don't go to practice.

Any help is appreciated!

Do videogames cause stress/anxiety?

Video games can cause more stress than relaxation sometimes. But it all depends on your play style and play attitude. What you want to do is play games you are good at and when you feel you are up to the challenge try it on a harder mode or a different style game.

I love a challenge so I like to play puzzle games or adventure games that have puzzles like zelda, metroid, resident evil, portal. Even fighting games pose a challenge. I've never played street fighter before but I sat down for 4 hours trying to figure out combos for ryu and eventually I figured it out

When I'm laid back I play some animal crossing or just mess around in a multiplayer and don't expect much.

It's all about your mind set and the attitude you take into the game. Also try playing with people. Having friends to play with makes it more fun and less stressful.

Do video games cause stress?

Nice doubt, to make you understand everything I have included an article in detail here. Find some time to check it out.Playing violent video games increases stressAccording to a study co-signed by researchers from Grenoble and Qatar, far from relaxing their followers, violent video games raise their level of stress.Do violent video games make players more violent?Do they have a cathartic effect?Vast debate! A study conducted jointly by two researchers, one from the University of Grenoble , the other from Qatar , does not allow the first question to be answered in the affirmative. But it indicates that GTAs, and other Hatred increase the stress of those who practice them.Non-players will think that the study pushes an open door, but not the players, many of whom swear on the contrary that playing relaxes them. The study selected eighty-seven students who were randomly invited to play either a violent video game or an action game of similar difficulty for 20 minutes .The study was supposed to focus on the effects of game brightness on visual perception. They were then asked to read a text about the Kurdish genocide in Iraq , during the dictatorship of Saddam Hussein .During this reading, their voice was recorded and then analyzed by a computer program measuring the micro-tremors of their vocal chords, betraying their level of stress.Participants who played violent video games were more stressed than others, according to this voice measure."Some people play to relax or de-stress themselves, and it's interesting to know that these games have a lifting effect on the level of stress," says Laurent Bègue, co-author of the study and professor of social psychology at Pierre-Mendès University. France from Grenoble."If you're looking for a relaxing hobby, violent video games are not the obvious choice," he adds. The study also points out that stress can have adverse health effects, including increasing the risk of cardiovascular disease. It is to appear in Psychology of Popular Media Culture , a journal of the American Association of Psychology.

Do video games aid depression and or anxiety?

From my experience of playing games for many years, they can be frustrating, fun, too hard to win, making you determined to beat it.Depending on the person playing and the way they look at the game, if it is fun or something they must beat and be a winner, can make them feel down, if they do not.It also depends on how bad the depression/anxiety is and the way the player thinks about the game, hoping to alleviate all thoughts of depression/anxiety.Some get so “fixed” on a game that they must win that when it is so hard and nearly impossible for some never to win, can make them feel bad about themselves, not realising the game is very hard, but thinking they should be able to win.The article shown by Anonymous in the other answer is one persons theory and studies found what parts of the brain are used in gaming.I find that some games are frustrating but I am not a serious gamer that I must beat all the games. They do help with boredom, but I have not found that they cause me to get that upset that they depress me or cause any anxiety.Hopefully they will help with depression/anxiety and help motivate and make people feel better about themselves if they do not take a game too seriously. This is what I think through playing the games and knowing the mind.

What games can help reduce anxiety?

There's not a hard and fast answer to this because there isn't enough conclusive research on it - some games with stressful situations in them have been shown to increase stress, but some of those same games have been shown to reduce it, depending on individual stress management and self awareness for those people playing.(And then there's the issue that playing games for stress relief has been linked to addiction, so you'll want to be careful about the amount of time you sink into it)If you're already into any cooperative games, they might help provide support and positive social interaction, but try to record your feelings of anxiety before and after games you play to see how it is affecting you personally, to see if you are one of those people for whom it may be positive or negative. The two games I know with the most consistent positive feedback on anxiety management are Flower (by Thatgamecompany) and Zen Koi. Both are very meditative in nature, seeking to craft a peaceful, mindful experience, and do not have stressful moments in them. Zen Koi I believe was specifically designed to be calming: watching fish swimming is supposedly a good meditation for anxiety, and I certainly found their fish animations pretty zen, as well as the game music. Zen Koi also has the benefit of being a phone game, so you can take it wherever you go.

I’m going to play my first game of volleyball, and I’m really anxious. What are some tips to calm me down?

When I played my first volleyball game, I was super stressed, but I promise you, you’ll do outstanding. Listen to your teammates who have been playing the sport for a while, they’ll know where you should be and what you should do if you don’t. Do this as well with your coach.Act like every ball is coming to you. Obviously, if the ball is on the other side of the court don’t call it, but be prepared for everything, because balls can often be miss hit and come to your area. Be sure to move your feet and don’t just try to reach your hands out to pass, set, or hit the ball. Stay low and mobile while passing and setting and don’t swing your arms.I hope that helps you. Remember that being nervous or anxious is just a sign that you care about the game. You’ll do amazing, and remember to take deep breaths. GOOD LUCK!!!

How do I stop myself from feeling stressed about my gaming backlog? It’s a hobby, not a job, but I still feel anxious about the games I haven’t played yet.

Some of your anxiety may be coming from you dwelling on the possibility of forgetting a game and never getting to it. I have had the same thing happen to me in the past due to buying like 10 new games during a steam sale, be in fact, my fears came true, I completely forgot I bought two games and only noticed them a few months ago, it made me feel sick. I have a fear of that myself, buying a game or spending money on anything in general and never using that item I bought, essentially wasting that money. What I would do if I were you would be make a clear list of all new games or games you wish to play some you haven't finished them. Order them from most excited to play to least. One week play the game you are most excited to play, the next week the second, and so on. What I do to make sure I don't miss anything and get my moneys worth is try to get 70% of the achievements/trophies before moving on, or until I am completely tired of it. Don't just keep buying games, you might have to miss a few sales if you are back logged deep. That is the price. You don't buy a pizza when you just got burgers, pace yourself, and don't get overwhelmed with potential games. Also, don't force yourself to play anything in that backlog if you aren't in the mood. I bought CIV 6 and honestly I abhorred playing it until I had it for like a month, then the need just hit me like a sack of bricks. 367 hours straight, I played nothing but that game, now I'm letting the need build up. Sure I would love to play it right now, but I also just got Dishonored 2 for cheap and kind of want to play it. I don't want to go too hard on CIV like I did on Jack Daniels when I first turned 18. I drank the entire bottle, blacked out, woke up in an entire new pair of underwear. I blacked out, vomited all over myself, got undressed randomly, and my mom had to dress me while I writhed around on the floor… don't got anything too hard. You need variety.Hope this helps brother, remember, you have nothing but time, just don't over by. Miss a sale from time to time and catch up.
