I Am Struggling With College And I Need Advice Help Best Answser

I'm struggling with college life...?

At first I was eager about college, and I worked hard and attended my class, but the college where I am is a town away and it's been difficult making friends. I have made friends, and I care for them a lot, but I feel like an outcast and I'm missing my friends from my old school as i don't see them that much anymore and feel cut off, plus I can't go to the town over to see my new friends all the time because of travel costs and the weather.
Also, I've failed two mock exams in one of my classes and although I'm enjoying some classes, I can't find the motivation to do the work and end up doing it last minute so it's not the best. I feel like I'm on a fast train heading nowhere, but I don't want to disappoint my parents and drop out, even though I am not enjoying it all and feel very depressed.
See, I've generally gotten good grades which is why everyone expected me to go to college and do A-levels, but I just have this gut feeling that it isn't for me. I'd rather find a job and see where the world takes me, but I just know my parents and family will be upset. They won't believe that I can accomplish anything without going to college.
How can I talk about this with them, and how the hell can I phrase it without sounding like a lazy over dramatic teen, because that is what they will think. I'm embarrassed about the whole thing but it is really getting me down. I have been saying college is good and I'm doing well, but it is too much now and I need to talk to them. Please help me find a way to express it to them so they will take me seriously.

I'm Struggling in College...I need some advice?

Well, mate, the brain can take so much information at one given time, so you might be over saturating yours with a lot of information, all at once. I don't believe you should study every day as some might say (you are living a life, come on!), but do take your time and plan ahead before you have your exams. Do not study until the last possible moment because, again, you will saturate your brain with data, and you won't have the chance to review the material.

Try this: if you have both notes and a textbook, read first the textbook. While reading the textbook, have some spare paper and a pen or pencil close to you. Read as much as you think you can remember, and write the important points of what you've read. Carry on with the rest of the material, stopping to write the points.

For the notes, either rehearse them at least a couple times, or draw diagrams that connect the main topics and subtopics in a graphic and logical fashion. Re-read the notes you made from the textbook, and do the same.

It might work, it might not. The thing is, you need a strategy to study if you really want to get good grades. Unless you are really busy with projects or work, try to start studying around two weeks before the exam, so you have more time and you don't rush through the material.

And above all, do not miss classes.

Keep up the good work.

Struggling in college, and need good advice.?

The fraternity is a totally self-destructive decision.
Get out of it immediately or continue your present course to become a total loser.

Why am I struggling in college?

You wouldn’t be normal if you didn’t struggle —- everyone has a few courses that are harder than tough and generally loathed in many ways.To get through them with a passing grade there’s a few things you must ( YES, MUST ) do. Don’t party as much.Sit in the front of the class.Take a lot of notes and make sure that the instructor/professor sees you.Ask questions ( yes even if they are stupid questions ).Get the professor /instructor aside and ask him if there is anything you can do to bring up your grade point average. If a tutorial is offered go to it - do not miss any sessions.Do not miss any classes.Hand in all assignments completed as neatly and as best as you can.Go to every examination.Dress neatly.Be respectful.Do all this and you will get a passing grade. It’s a load of crap but it works.I attended a tough spring semester Economics class that was given late in the day 3 times a week Mon., Wed., & Friday. The professor that taught it was on probation for flunking his entire classes for the last 3 years. That winter was rather severe - cloudy and cold and that Friday class was an absolutely beautiful day - the trees out side had leafed out and the day was just beautiful sunny and warm. The windows were wide open and the soft spring breeze just made the room comfortable. The class ordinarily had 82 students.Aside from me there were only 2 other people in the room. The Professor stormed into the room - waited 5 minutes and announced —- “ O.K. - you three have passed - everyone else gets a failing grade - give me your names.”We three did pass ans no one else got a passing grade. The next semester the professor was gone

Engineering student struggling with College Algebra, Career help?

Actually I am surprised they let you in. They are telling my daughter that unless she takes four years of math in high school, don't even think about applying at Rolla or Columbia.

Ok, they tossed you in the deep end, and they will never let a good teacher teach this class.
No one can get through this on his own. You need to ask for and get help. There should be a tutorial place. I lived in the EE tutorial room for two years. It was the best place to do my homework. When I got stuck, I could ask the tutor.

What about your class mates. In Engineering we are encouraged to work together. We would sit at the same table and ask help from one another. If you don't know anyone, ask a random stranger in the study rooms. The best person to teach you about something, is some one who took the class last year.

College Algebra is required for everything, even History majors have to take it. You can't graduate with a degree in underwater basket weaving with out it.

Students who were B average in High school seemed to adapt better to tough collage classes. We were prepared to sweat blood. A few students went into shock because they had never had to work at it. 40 of us from our high school started the engineering class. Only two of us graduated in four years. We both were B students in High school, and C students in calculus.

Tough it out. Math is twice as hard as history. But anyone who can master calculus, makes 20k more a year than some one who flunked collage algebra. Maybe, because after calculus, most things seem easier.

I need car insurance desperately, really struggling to get decent quote, any tips/help?

I'm a 17 year old male (yes, i know you've already considered pressing to back button or telling me to give up) I work part time, and in college, I'm from a small town, little crime, I passed on the 18th of July this year, and since then, trying to find any reasonable quote, or anything below £3000 has been impossible, Any advice on cars, systems, insurers to use would be greatly appreciated.
Thankss :)

18 year old struggling with bed-wetting, any advice?

I'm 18 myself and I struggle with bed wetting, it's been happening for a couple of years now and it's very embarrassing I had no idea why it was happening, why i couldn't wake up during the night and go to the toilet like everyone else, I finally went to the doctor 2 weeks ago about it, even though that was very embarrassing and extremely difficult to do, the doctor completely understood and said it's very common with people your age especially people who are stressed, I knew I was stressed, but I'm 18 who isn't at that age, but then again stress effects people differently and with me it was bed wetting, my brain was to occupied with my stress at night that it blocked out any messages from the bladder and thats when you have accidents, the doctor gave me some tablets to take at night, to help me be more calm and relaxed and I've been taking them for 2 weeks now and I've had no accidents, so I would recommend going to the doctor, but that might be to embarrassing for you to do right now, I know it took me awhile, and also maybe if your stressed try to figure out ways to solve it or ease it a little and if not then listen to music that makes you calm and relaxed at night, and don't drink anything an hour and a half to two hours before bed. I hope things get better for you, and just know this happens to alot of people our age, good luck with your college. Sarah x

What advice would you give to a college student?

Bunch of good answers here. College life is probably one of the best times of your life. It's a time when you get to learn and grow. You get to meet new friends and possibly discover yourself in a new manner. The best advice for college life is to just go out there and have a good adventure. College life precludes real world in most of the cases for many people so it is good opportunity for them to experiment and have fun on the way. While it is necessary that you concentrate and do well in your studies- it doesn't mean that you dont enjoy the remaining aspects of being in college. Participate in social events, form a new club, go for a trip with your friends- just don't limit yourself. College life doesn't come back again once it's gone. But this doesn't mean that you should get wasted completely and lose track of everything. Become responsible and live college life to the fullest so that you have loads of memories to cherish in the future.
