I Am Training For Cross Country Help

Training For Cross Country For 7th Grade?

I'm a sophomore in highschool and I run cross country. I started when I was your age and I fell in love. Running straight up sucks at times but at the end of the day you love it.

First off, the most important thing is your diet. A car can't run without gas; a runner can't run stronger, or better without a balanced diet. I make sure I drink plenty of water every day (about 100 ounces) I drink ONLY water, milk, and orange juice. Absolutely NO soda :/ make sure you're drinking enough milk as well. 3 glasses of skim milk a day should do it because if you don't get enough calcium and vitamin D your body will start pulling it from your bones and cause stress fractures.

I eat 3 small meals a day with snacks in between and not chips or candy snacks either. Lol try to snack on nuts or fruits and vegetables. Whole grain crackers are good as well.

I eat plain oatmeal of the mornings (2 packets) with a cut up banana and a little brown sugar for taste. With a glass of skim milk.

For a mid morning snack I eat a granola bar or some raisins.

For lunch a tuna salad sandwich with light mayo on whole wheat bread. A small sallad and a little baggie of cucumber slices or carrots. Some yogurt and another glas off milk.

Normall I eat chicken steak pork (any kinds of meat for dinner

And for training since your just starting up you should build yourself up to one mile. Go to the track and run the strainghts and walk the curves. Do that for 4 laps and do a jog of 2 laps. Then walk 1 lap as a cool down. Make sure before you start a workout though that you wamr up and stretch really good. And cool down and stretch really good as well.

I know this is a lot of typing to read lol and I'm sorry I hope it helps! I hope you enjoy running as much as I do! :) if you have any questions just email me at parks_ramona@yahoo.com

Would doing cross country or solo training help with my 800m time?

Possibly. At the high school I went to, our fastest 800 runner ran a 1:55.00, and he ran cross country from freshman year to senior year of high school. The 800 is a two lap sprint. The endurance that you’ll gain from cross country will likely help you immensely with your 800 time. That being said, if you just aren’t fast, then running cross isn’t going to help you learn turnover rate. You’ll need a sprint camp for that sort of thing, and some people just aren’t born to run the 800. I loved the race, but was AWFUL at it. I ran the 1600 all four years of high school, and peaked out just around 4:30. I never got my 800 time under 2:03. I just didn’t have the speed, but the endurance was absolutely there for me. But I was a cross country runner, not track. (5k around 16:20)It’s hard to train exclusively for the 800. Typically coaches pull the 400 meter guys that are willing to run some distance, and throw them in with the distance guys a few days a week. That’s the “running cross will help you get endurance mentality”. On the other hand, some distance runners struggle pacing out the mile and like to sprint, so the distance coach will send them over to the sprint camp for a few days each week. It just depends on which bracket you fall into which will work best for you.Either way, run over the summer and in the fall. Running year-round will most definitely help get your times down. Best of luck, and enjoy running!

Cross country training on a treadmill?

so i live in upstate new york and it is really cold during the winter. it is too uncomfortable to run outside in these temperatures.

i took a year off of cross country, but i want to run next year in the upcoming season. i thought i should get training during the winter to get into shape, then start getting a bit more serious about times when i am able to run outside again.

i was planning on training inside on a treadmill. i know treadmills are completely different from running outside, but its better than nothing, right?

Cross country training: How many miles should I be running a week?

I am on my third week of training for cross country, and just want to know how many miles most high school runners run a week. Currently, I am running about 4 miles a day. I usually run 6 days a week, so is 24 miles a week enough?

Boxing and Cross Country?

Hi. I am a very good cross country runner. I am a freshman in high school who loves to run. I am training my way to become an olympic distance runner. I know that runners are skinny, but all muscle. I am also a very good boxer who wants to get into it professionally. I know boxing incorporates endurance and I know it would help in both sports. Boxing would also help with my cross country training. Is it possible that I can be a professional in both of these sports? Can I be good at both of these sports, probably even the best in the world (in boxing, only in my weight division)? I have always dreamed of becoming a professional athlete. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time.

High school sports training help- lacrosse and cross country!?

I am a freshman girl who is planning on playing lacrosse in the spring. I am about 5'9" 150 pounds. The problem is that I am out of shape and have no lacrosse experience (thank god it's a no cut team) I am getting a stick and a ball soon to get started. Is there anything I can do to prepare? Stick and ball work? Running work outs?

Also, I am considering running cross country next year. I am so slow- my mile time is about 10 minutes. What should I do to get in shape for cross country this winter, spring, and summer?
