I Cannot Quit Sleeping

Quit caffeine. Why I can't sleep any more?

This is my story. I was caffeine addrict for more than 10 years. 3 energy drinks a day or so. Developed anxiety and problems with digestion and after consulting with the doctors decided to stop caffeine intake. Unfortunatelly I didn't have enough will power to reduce gradually so I had to cut almost cold turkey. Drank just one cola pop per day to alleviate withdrawal symptoms for a week or more before stopping entirely.

Withdrawals were extremely bad - headaches, anxiety, numbness, muscle and stomach pains lasted for 2 - 3 weeks. This is unusual because normally caffeine withdrawals subside over 9 days. Not for me. I have alredy tried ciuitting caffeine few times and always I had similar withdrawals lasting longer than average. Every one is different.

So its already 30 days I am free of caffeine and one of the withdrawal side effects still persists - insomnia. Actually it's not insomnia. I fall asleep at midnight pretty fast but then I wake up around 2 AM tired but with the fun sense in my head - thoughts are clear and I do not feel sleepy at all. I strugle im my bed and if I manage to sleep my sleep sessions last like for an hour or two at the best.

I believe that my brain gets more oxygen and feels more refreshed after I stopped caffeine intake, probably blood vessels in my head are more dilated that when I was drinking caffeine. I am not sure.

Any suggestions, what could I do to get my old good night's sleep back? I live in Europe, there's no melatonin and other stuff you can buy in US. Also sleeping drugs or anxiolytics are not an option. I don't drink alcohol at all. I have already tried and keep exercizing, drink magnesium supplements, lemon balm tea, listen for relaxation music.

I can`t sleep during the day?

First of all, this depends on where you'll be living in Scandinavia. You have to live above the arctic circle to have midnight sun (and polar nights). You can see the line for the arctic circle here, right above "NORWAY": http://static.newworldencyclopedia.org/thumb/8/87/Scandinavia.jpg/300px-Scandinavia.jpg If you'll be living below this line, you will have normal days and nights, just like the rest of the world. I live around Trondheim, and our sun sets at night and rises in the morning, all year around.

Other than that, you can easily find a thick pair of curtains/blinds to use. I have thick, fabric blinds that barely let any light through. I can assure you that you can find something like that, especially if you go looking for it in whatever place you'll be living. When there's midnight sun, most people need proper curtains to get it dark enough, and I am sure you won't be the only one needing some.

And remember that you do have an internal clock, which tells you when to sleep and when to get up. So that'll help you be tired in the evening, and wake up in the morning. And if you shut the curtains a few hours before you go to bed, I am sure your body will be able to keep up with the it's-supposed-to-be-dark-before-I-go-to-... routine it might have.

Why can't I seem to get any sleep since I quit smoking?

It's withdrawal from Nicotine.Nicotine is a potent parasympathomimetic substance, it helps to calm you down after a smoke. When you smoke regularly, your body compensates for the anticipated relaxation by putting you into a more excited state around the time you smoke. So when you stop smoking, your body still goes into a excited state and this prevents you from falling asleep.Rest assure that this symptom will go away after a week or so.

Why can't I sleep after I quit smoking?

Nicotine withdrawal often leads to irritability, fatigue, and insomnia. If your insomnia is interfering with your ability to function, please meet with your family physician to discuss treatment options.I quit smoking about 17 years ago and can still remember the crushing fatigue, sleepless nights, and horrible irritability. I thought it would never end. It did. And except for one terribly, horribly no good day with my infant son 16 years ago, I never smoked again. You should be able to find online smoking cessation support as well as live support groups.Hang in there. It gets better.

I stopped taking NyQuil, now I can't sleep well.?

Don't go back to taking NyQuil again if you don't have a cold.

What's happened is that you've built up a dependency on it to help you to sleep. There is a rebound effect that happens when you stop, and it forces you to stay awake.

Your best bet to be able to get back to sleep is to stop the NyQuil, try not to nap during the day. Read a book at night until you're sleepy, drink milk, or eat a bowl of ice cream before bedtime.

I take Melatonin from time to time (NOT ALL THE TIME) to help me to sleep. It's a natural hormone that your body produces to help you get to sleep and stay asleep. It resets your body's internal clock too. I use it for jet lag.

...and to the person who mentioned Benadryl...Benadryl is also known as "Diphenhydramine HCL"...it's the main component in NyQuil that gets you to sleep. You don't want to take Benadryl either, because that puts you back into the sleepless boat again.

Why cant i stop sleeping with this ****** maid ?

I don't think you are addicted. You just need to be stronger. When she starts trying to have sex, become serious. Don't give in no matter what! If you're strong, the most she can do is rape you! Tell your mom what has been going on. She can't get too upset. She might fire the maid, and then you will have nothing to worry about. But if you really like the maid, and if you want to start dating her, then just break up with your girlfriend. At least then you want be cheating on her. Also, tell your mom if you like her, and tell her that you two have been having sex. That way, you can tell the truth, you won't have to live with the guilt and the lies, and your mom won't get too upset if she catches you two having sex again. Hope this helps, and good luck!

I just quit smoking & now I can't sleep at night - can someone help?

Cut out caffeine.
Exercise (cardio + some dumbell exercises)
Drink lots of water (8-10 glasses per day)
Eat lots of healthy fruits & veggies. Make your own fresh fruit juices.
Watch your sugar intake.
Before bed, take a bath or shower.
Drink some chamomile (buy at health food store)
Read a book that usually does it for me.
Treat yourself to a relaxing massage here & there.
Whatever you do don't start smoking...Your heart will thank you for this. Plus you don't have to be seated in the back of a restaurant anymore. YEAH!

I can't sleep because I like this girl. How can I stop thinking about her?

This is the kind of connection that doesn’t come around everyday. If this is your first crush or your first love it can be overwhelmingly strong, but it’s going to be a memory that will stay with you forever. It will be the one memory you will resort back to when you are single and day dreaming the butterflies will even come back.I think you should ride this out for as long as you can, be as creative as possible, because you are building the go to memory of your life time. You’re going to want that memory to be spectacular.Love after love you will find the severity will be a little less than the first time. Even if you don’t get the girl, that’s not the part you will remember, it’s everything leading up to that day that stays with you. This is what they mean when they say, with every fiber of my being.Love feels amazing, it’s worth the pain every time, it’s what we live for and if it turns out you don’t get the girl, you can hold tight to the memory of the feelings that surrounded your first love.Girls will come and they will go and your heart will be the first to know, in pleasure and in pain, it takes contrast a little bit of insanity to know when you’re sane so without those annoying little sands of grain oysters would never make pearls, so don’t ever harden your heart when it comes to loving girls.

I can't stop sleeping with my best friend? And now I think I'm pregnant?

Troy has been my best friend for years, and I can't seem to stop sleeping with him. Every time he gets invited to parties, he brings me and we get super wasted. Then we always end up having sex :/ He's extremely attractive and I've always had a crush on him, but he has a girlfriend. He's been dating her for 3 years. I've been sleeping with him for like 4; I lost my virginity to him. It's hard for me to tell him no because i love him and i dont wanna disappoint him, but I know it's wrong of me to sleep with a guy that has a girlfriend. Also, i feel like i have no chance with him (dating wise) :(

Just a few days ago, I took a pregnancy test and it came out positive. He is the only person ive been sleeping with, so he IS the father. I dont want his girlfriend to find out because she'll be hurt, and i dont want to tell troy because he'll think i did it on purpose. I'm so lost and want to get an abortion so bad, because i know i wont be able to take care of it. I'm only 17.

He asked me to hang out today, which usually means have sex. I told him no, and he sent me a frowny face, and i felt really bad :( So I went over and we had sex.... again. I can't tell him no!

What should I do? Should I tell him? Should I tell her?

Cant sleep without weed?

Not addicting? you're NUTS. weed is EXTREMELY addicting. and yes you're right. you'll have problems sleeping because weed is a 'Mood Altering Drug'

If you stay clean for 21 days, THEN you will be free of the drug called THC, and then your sleep patterns will be back to normal.

Most important thing of all. Do not try to counteract your dependency on THC with some other drug, (i.e. sleep aid like Ambien. they're equally addictive)
