I Forgot My Tax File Number

I forgot to file my income tax return for AY 2014-15. Can I still file it? What are the consequences of the same?

Thanks for A2A.As per Section 139(4) of the Income Tax Act,1961 if a person fails to file return of Income for any Previous Year within stipulated time as per section 139(1) of the act, he may submit the belated return for any such previous year before expiry of :One Year from end of relevant Assessment year or before completion of assessment whichever is earlier (Applicable up to AY 2016–17)Relevant Assessment Year or before completion of assessment whichever is earlier (Applicable from AY 2017–18)Since in your case you have not filed the return of income for Previous Year 2013–14 the last date for filing belated return is 31/03/2016 which is one year from the end of relevant AY i.e 2014–15.So now there is no possibility for you to file the Income Tax Return for the AY 2014–15.

Forgot to file Schedule D while doing 2009 tax. Now I got a letter from IRS!?

In 2009 I sold two stocks for $10000 each, losing about $1500 for each stock. I forgot to file Schedule D while doing my 2009 tax; yesterday I got a letter from IRS claiming that I owe them $20000 (plus interest and penalty) for the "capital gain". Even though I did not gain any money (in fact, I lost money) by selling the stocks, IRS used a zero cost basis because they were not able to determine the cost of the stocks sold.

What should I do to tell them that I do not owe them $20000 (because I had zero gain)? Since I did not file Schedule D in the first place, will I still owe them the penalty fee? Thanks!

I forgot my child's social security number, how do i find it?

You should have your child's social security card, with the number on it.

If you do not, you need to get another from the SSA and keep it in a safe location.

If you need your child's number now, your only option is to inquire as to whether the tax preparer you used last year has it on file or if the school, doctor's office, etc. has it on file. They will only provide this information to the custodial parent, though, if they even have it on file.

EDITED TO ADD: If you are trying to claim your child fraudulently, you will have to pay back any money received based on the fraudulent claim as well as penalties and interest. It really seems as if you should have this information, you would.

I forgot my ein number?

Go to the www.irs.gov website and use the search box for Employer ID Numbers (EINs)
And just where and how did you get your ein number the first time for your business operation that you are supposed to have employees to withhold and report the taxes correctly during the tax year.
An Employer Identification Number (EIN) is also known as a Federal Tax Identification Number, and is used to identify a business entity. Generally, businesses need an EIN. You may apply for an EIN in various ways, and now you may apply online. This is a free service offered by the Internal Revenue Service. You must check with your state to make sure you need a state number or charter.

I will like to ask a Question please ,I forgot to put the control number on my taxes when i efilled what can i?

Don't worry about it. The control number field is optional for the employer's use. It is NOT required to file a return and your return won't kick out if it's missing or entered incorrectly.

When i filed my taxes i forgot to file one of my w2, is that a problem?

I did that last year by mistake. I filled out a 1040x form as soon as I realized the mistake.

Don't listen to anyone on here who says just do your taxes again and resend them, once you submit them the only way to correct the mistake is by the 1040x, which has to be mailed..not efiled.

If this was a mistake in 2006 you'll need to make sure the tax form is for the year 2006, and you may have to pay interest and penalties on the balance due (if any)

If this was a mistake on your 2007 taxes make sure the form is 2007 and you will have until April15th the amend your taxes and pay any extra that you may owe. As long as you file the amended form by 4/15 you will not owe interest and penalities.

If you are due a refund from the amended form it will be in the form of a check just like a regular refund is.

What should I do if I forget apartment number on tax form?

Hello all,

I submitted my 1040A today via mail, but when I was looking at the copies of the form I notice I did not put in the apartment number. I am expecting a refund, but since the apartment number is not on the form will they send it to the building?

Should I just do the electronic filing now before the IRS get the physical form?

Thanks in advance for your advise.

What is my ip pin number for my tax return?

I don't know. You're the one with the files, not us. What am I? Psychic who knows everything about Y!A users?

I forgot to put my social security number on my payment to the IRS. What will happen to my payment.?

IRS asks you to put the SS # on the check as a double-check in the event the voucher and check are separated. If the check clears the bank and IRS later bills you for unpaid taxes, all you need to do is send them a copy of both sides of the check with an explanation and they should be able to clear it up.

I forgot to sign my tax return forms?

You mailed your tax return to IRS when? It takes at least 3-4 weeks for IRS to show your return received at IRS. Once a tax examiner starts processing your tax return, they first verify if the return was signed then immediately stop processing the return, the examiner will send you a letter for you to sign and date and return to IRS, will also provide a fax number. Once IRS then receives you signature the examiner will then begin processing your tax return.
Call IRS at 1-800-829-1954 or 1-800-829-1040 for assistance, or visit your local IRS office.
Since IRS already has a return for you "DO NOT SEND ANOTHER RETURN"
