I Got Bit By A Wasp On My Palm Can I Still Get

What do you do when a wasp lands on you - should you be aggressive or passive?

Run!Once it’s landed and you try to strike it the chance it will sting is very likely. It’s not a bee or the even gentler bumble bee. It’s a very easily irritated little monster. If you start running, you’ve got a good chance it will fly to keep it’s balance. But as you have irritated it you also have a good chance of the wasp following you. Run inside if you can: they don’t like to follow youin a dark room.Passive? The fact it’s landed on you can only mean 2 things: You’ve irritated it and it’s ready to sting. Or something has attracted it; your smell, a perfume or something sweet you’ve eaten, whatever. The least movement you make it percieves as an attack ( almost every movement will ) and will lead to a sting. Remember, contrary to bees a sting is not suicide to a wasp, it can sting up to 5 times. So passive means a likely sting unless you can act as a zombie and the wasp is in an exceptional friendly mood for some reason. So run!If you are extremely dexterious there is another solution. My mother always has a fly swatter at hand, she shakes them of and then is able to hit them in mid-air ( she’s 85 but unafraid and terminally efficient with a fly-swapper ).

Why does my bee or wasp sting from almost a week ago still itch?

Why Your Wasp Sting Still Itches!Wasp stings are never a great experience and although the pills, creams and potions in your local pharmacy will reduce swelling, nothing seems to get rid of that itch.Antihistamine creams can be useful, but every person reacts slightly differently to a specific insect bite or sting. Some people show no signs of reaction, while other can die from a single sting! But it’s not all about the wasps venom. Foreign proteins injected into the skin by other insects have a similar effect. The only good remedy we have used for both horsefly bites and wasp/hornet stings is an extraction device. We use an Aspivenin.I've used it on my kids and on customers and its never let me down. Swelling at the site of a sting or bite quickly eases if the Aspivenin is used quickly.I keep mine in the front of the vehicle so it is always close to hand.Over many years we tried oodles of things to get rid the itch you describe and this device is possibly your best bet.Scratching is the worst thing you can do, because it regularly causes scarring! the itching should not cause alarm and usually subsides within a week.If the skin irritation you experience continues into a third week or looks like it is becoming infected then you must get to your doctor for a professional examination.Simon Berenyi - WaspKill UK - Bristol Pest Control

This is SERIOUS. Wasp spray on my skin?

Ok first off don't panic. Wash the area affected with soap and water and DO NOT touch your mouth, nose, and eyes etc. Remove contaminated clothing and place in the wash. After washing and drying the affected area take it easy as this should be all you should worry about it. If considerable skin irritation occurs, a serious rash or anything noticeable out of the ordinary that is either painful or persistent see a doctor. This is not very serious I assure you take it easy my friend. I'm sure you will be just fine mate.

What happens when you get stung by a wasp?

i was on the roof doing some work when i just happend to see a big huge wasp nest that is about four inches big covered with wasps and i wanna take it down but afraid of gettin stung.
can you die if you get stung by one of these bees?

If deathly allergic to bee stings and wasp, will a scorpion bite kill me...my throat closes up.?

You can never really predict what will happen, but I would say that if you are allergic to bees and wasps, then it is the venom that causes you to react-- but I do think that scorpion stings make most people ill-- I would just continue to carry the epi pen like you normally do--

Is it true that wasps sting you even if you leave them alone?

Most of the time wasps won’t waste the energy to sting you unless you have disturbed them in some way. There are even some people that wasps won’t sting. Here’s an interesting thing I experienced; When I was a teenager working on a golf course one of my chores was to refill water coolers. One day as I was doing this I noticed a large paper wasp nest under the platform that held a cooler. I cautioned the waiting foursome to be careful so they wouldn’t get stung, and that I would come back and spray the nest. One of the players told me there was no need to spray them, that wasps would not sting him and that he would just move the nest. I thought he must be smoking something, or just crazy. Before I could stop him he approached the nest, reaching under the platform and broke it off at that little stem. Wasps were crawling over his hand but none acted aggressive. He then took the nest over to a wooded area and placed it in the crotch of a tree. The wasps seemed completely unconcerned about him and the movement of their nest. We were all speechless.I still have no idea what I witnessed that day but have since learned that many bees and wasps will not sting something actually in or on their nest. I have never seen or heard of anyone duplicating what I witnessed. On the other hand late in the fall paper wasps get very nasty and I have been stung working around barns on several occasions even just walking down an aisleway far from a nest. I figure they know winter is coming and most of them are going to be history so might as well just sting the next thing that moves.

Is it possible to pick up a wasp with your bare hands without it stinging you?

Yes. The European paper wasp is very common in the US today and they often nest on or near houses. They sometimes get inside homes, where many people react to them with horror. I will often just pick them up on my fingers and put them outside. People that have watched me do this typically think I’m crazy or at least very brave. Really, it’s no big deal. While they can sting, and I have been stung by them before, I have never been stung when picking one up on purpose. It’s the wasp that you grab accidentally that will sting you. They will also sting if you get too close to their nest. But if it’s trapped in your house, they will be quite friendly if you pick them up properly. If you see a wasp in your house, wait for it to land somewhere. They are usually attracted to windows, so they often land on windows or curtains. Once the wasp has landed, simply place your fingers on the surface in front of the wasp. Eventually, it will crawl onto your finger. Once it’s on your finger, you can take it wherever you want. Strangely, they seem to really like being on your finger, and will be reluctant to fly away even after you carry it outside. I usually have to fling it away to get it to leave.I have picked up dozens of paper wasps this way and have never had a problem. I picked up a yellow jacket once. It seemed fine at first, but then it started to chew on my finger. It wasn’t all that painful, but I still didn’t like it, so I haven’t pick one up again. I’ve also picked up a few honey bees and bumblebees without any problems.

I have numbness and pain in a 3 day old wasp sting. Should I worry?

Some venom can really get your histamine response going with pain and swelling. You might want to try a dose of Benedryl (Diphenhydramine) and some hydrocortisone cream. As long as you are not having any respiratory symptoms you may just have to wait it out. let your practitioner know that you have had an extensive reaction if there is a large area of swelling and observe for signs of infection if you had occasion to scratch the area. Sometimes you will get a progressively larger response to things that stimulate this reaction as time goes on.
