I Had My Computer Cleaned And When That Was Done I Have Not Received Any E-mail Do U Know Y

I have given my old computer to someone but they are still receiving my emails how do I stop this?

I have given my old computer to someone but they are still receiving my emails how do I stop this? Not enough information.1) Web based email (aol, gmail, yahoo, etc) accessed via a browser, such as firefox, chrome, mosaic, safari, and others, then your passwords are embedded in the browser and should be “cleaned”. Use the browser’s settings to erase cookies, history, and PASSWORDS.2) Using a POP such as outlook, outlook express, and others, the person may be using your ISP connection with your user name. There are settings in the local (to your old computer) to change the login and the e-mail address, etc.If the above is not understood, either someone will write a better answer or you should have a pro look at the old machine. Bring the ISP information and user name of the new owner with you.

Someone trying to send me computer virus......?

A couple of days ago one of my msn contacts kept sending me a link that had my email address in it (she was doing this on purpose.), and finally one day I got sick of her sending them and because I was so curious I opened one up, it was a video that needed me to download a certain software, and of course, I didn't. Next she sent me a another link, this one was different then the first, and for the first twenty times she sent me the link I didn't open it. After a week of getting the exact same link I opened it up and something came up ( it was one of those download things) and for some reason I opened it, turns out it was a virus but since I had such a wonderful virus security thingy I blocked the virus before I actually had it.
How did she find a website that sends me viruses??
Are there actual sites that sends people viruses in links?
If you gave me an example that would be nice.

Is it safe to use my computer without an antivirus?

Fantastical new computer squid virus?

You can run antivirus and antispyware programs, but the sad fact is if you have found one virus on your computer, you probably have several. Cleaning the computer now requires you to follow these steps, because modern viruses and spyware entrench themselves in files that your computer needs in order to run:

1. Virus-check your data files (not application files-- you have installer CDs for those).
2. Back up the data files, getting them off your hard drive.
3. Get your original operating system CDs that came with your computer.
4. Boot your computer from the operating system CD.
5. Select the option that erases your hard drive and then reinstall your system software.
6. Turn on your software firewall that came with your operating system.
7. Reconnect to the internet, and download *all* Windows updates, no matter how long it takes.
8. Reinstall your application software, and update the applications as much as you can.
9. Reinstall your data files.
10. Create a limited user account on your system that does *not* have administrator access, and web surf only from this account.

Yes, this is a pain in the butt. No, there is no other way. No, antivirus and antispyware programs cannot fix this problem on its own.

So, what do you do in the future?

1. Never click on links you find in an e-mail.
2. Never open an e-mail attachment, ever.
3. Only download files from a reputable website that you know is on the up-and-up.
4. Never use bit-torrent and other file-sharing programs.
5. Never use an unsolicited drive-checking site.
6. Turn off all java and java scripting by default, and only enable java and java scripting for sites that you know you can trust.
7. Never read an unsolicited e-mail, and delete spam immediately. It is possible to be hacked by reading an e-mail alone.

Please adhere to the 'dont's' I provided above, because you will have to repeat the cleaning steps that I listed first *every time you get infected.* Anti-spyware and anti-virus programs are good to have, but they are a second line of defense. The best way to protect your system is you, and changing your behavior.

Help with Hotmail spam break in?!?!?

Most likely, no one is in your email. Example: I could send an email from you to someone by using my own email account and not touching yours at all.

Additionally, email can be sent even without email being open. All you have to do is launch some spyware that uses the windows DLL's in the background and then the application you see on your screen does not even need to open.

If your computer is infected, if you check your email on an infected computer elsewhere or even send an email to a friend who is infected or checks there email elsewhere is one major way to become spammed.

In the rare event someone has your password, or keeps getting your password, it happens usually in one of a few different ways you need to avoid.

- a program in installed in your computer that sends the password to the hacker
- your password does not meet minimum security requirements
- you use Internet Explorer (bad idea)
- you use MSN Messenger (connects to same password but without security)

and many other ways.

Also consider changing mail providers to someone like gmail (much more secure) or even yahoo (but you must create a security badge and use their extra security features to get around the hacking issue).

Note: your computer configuration, virus infections, spyware infections, what web sites you use, what software is installed, etc can all affect your security.

start by locking down your computer, cleaning up your system and after that is all done, change your password again but make it much stronger.

My friend's email got hacked into. i opened the email the hacker sent me. what possible damage has been done?

I received that Canadian Pharmacy email from a friend of mine. When I opened it I did not click on the link but mailed it to a different email address I use to check junk mail on a public computer. It did not seem to do anything to the public computer as far as I know. Just make sure you scan your computer with your antivirus and antispyware. Also to be on the safe side change your email password. Chances are everything is OK.

Why did my E-mail just get up and Go some kackhole took it over.It has been unclepupbama@yahoo.com for ever.?

It's never a good idea to post your email address in a public place like Yahoo Answers. I highly recommend you delete this question.

Posting more information about the trouble you are encountering would make it easier to assist you with this problem. Information such as:

* The complete text of any errors you may have encountered
* The exact steps you are taking before encountering the problem
* Any behavior your encountered that was unexpected

If you are ever concerned some one else is accessing your account I recommend changing your password.
