I Have A Great Invention But I Don

How do I get my idea for a great invention, but I don't know how to get my idea off the ground?

Look at Patents - There are a few "patent houses" available to search online.

Basically - come up with your idea - and search them for a similar idea already invented.

The chances are - 19 out of 20 of your ideas may already have been invented, but don't worry - that one idea of yours could be worth serious money.

Read the patents and the dates on them. The older they are the better, as you can probably build on them for free. If they are still enforced (under 10 yrs) then you may have to pay for using them in your design. This is called "prior art" - Things that have been invented before. Typical things are things like zips, caps and locking devices. They are all the same -but are used in new devices all the time.

Once you have your idea - you should write it down properly - so that it can be reproduced by anyone reading it and leaving no room for error - incluude a diagram with numbered parts.
If you read enough patents - you'll soon get the idea.

Pick something cheap to make to start with -then find friendly help who can make it with you.

With a working model - you can get help from your scholarship provider.

I have a great idea (invention) but I don't know what to do?

If you don't personally know an engineer, go to the nearest college and go to the College of Engineering. Either pay her $10,000 upfront or make her a partner and pay her later when you both get rich.
Then go to uspto.gov and pay $105 for a Provisional Patent. It won't completely protect you but you can get one in a short time.
Then go to a local businessman and ask what he will charge to produce your item at his factory.

I have a great for a invention?

Hello,
In order to patent your invention, you need to summit a form to the U.S. Patent office. Believe me, this is not an easy assignment and is not cheap either. You need to create a blueprint, prototype, etc. You can contract a patent lawyer, so they can summit it for you. They also charge a lot.
Another alternative is to pay to obtain "Patent Pending" patent. This actually cheaper. I thick it runs around $140-160. This will help you protect your patent against people that want to steal it.

Check this website www.livetheinvention.com, they help inventors market or sell inventions for you.

I hope this help, Good Luck! and God Bless You

I have some great inventions but I don't know how to go about making them become a reality.?

You need the help of a patent attorney or patent agent. You can find one near you by going to www.uspto.gov and using the site index to find the Attorney and Agent Roster or the Roster or Attorneys and Agents. When you get to that page, search it by the first 3 digits of your zip code.

Drafting a patent application takes a lot of time. Be prepared to spend 5000-20000. If your invention isnt going to make you that much, then maybe rethink getting the patent.

First maybe do a search to see if anyone else has already made or patented something similar.

Search for it like you want to find it. If you invented a mouse trap, don't just search for mouse trap. also search for rodent detainment apparatus and small animal inconveniencer and anything else you can think of....its probably already been invented

I have a great invention, where do i start?

Hi. The best place to start is contacting a local patent agent, and see if they offer a free consultation (many do).

The patent agent will be able to guide you towards which patent application is best for you, as well as the feasibility of your idea.

For a fee, the agent should also be able to check to see if your idea is either already patented or patent pending.

The patent process is extremely expensive, into the 10's of thousands at least.

Sorry, but speaking from experience, without a prototype, testing results (dependent on your product), and market research, the odds of someone buying your idea are slim. Today, companies do not want to have to use their time, money, and R&D depts. creating something without knowing for sure that they will make a profit.

I have a really great idea for an invention but dont have the capital or know-how to manufacture and market it?

Be careful of organizations that say they will assist you with invention ideas. Most if not all are scams. Your first step should be to file a patent. You can file a provisional patent application with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (www.uspto.gov). The provisional application fee is around $100. It is important that you prepare the application in the proper way and with good attention to detail. There is a good book; "Patent it yourself" by Pressman. You may also want to have an attorney, experienced engineer and/or business professional in the area of your invention review it (if other than an attorney, have them sign a nondisclosure agreement first). The provisional application will give you 1 year before you need to file a full application. So, it doesn't replace the application, just delays the expense of the full application. Another consideration, have your ideas already been patented? Before you spend the considerable cost (typically 5 to 10 thousand $) for the full application by an attorney, you should search to see what other patents already exist. Again, you can do this yourself for free at the USPTO search site: http://www.uspto.gov/patft/index.html

You can also pay a patent attorney or agent to conduct a search, but that may cost several hundred to a few thousand depending on the area of your invention.

With your patent filed, you should do some networking to talk with industry experts and executives. This is probably the best way to get value from your invention. Remember, until your patent application publishes make sure you have them sign a nondisclosure agreement before telling them about it (BTW, no one is going to sign a contract without seeing your idea first). I recommend getting several perspectives as it is more an art that a science. An industry CEO, seasoned marketing executive, successful entrepreneur, and an experienced R&D engineer are a few examples of valuable but likely different perspectives on your best plan. Much depends on the type of product and markets that are involved. Meeting the right people can be tough. You might try networking at industry conventions for the product area of your invention. Good luck.

Can you file an application? Yes.  Can you get to issuance of a patent?  Maybe, maybe not.It has undoubtedly happened that patents have issued for a statutory class of invention (see 35 USC 101 for a definition) without the inventor ever having "made" the invention.  (Research constructive versus actual reduction to practice).  So "making" the process, machine, manufacture or composition of matter is not necessary.  What is necessary is that the application teach and disclose how the invention works and is useful and an improvement over the prior art (a legal term of art referring to any publication dated earlier than the application filing date). This answer relates to United States law.  Please remember that free legal advice is worth what you have paid for it.

LEARN!Seriously, this is a truly amazing time to be alive as an inventor. The resources to prototype and test out an invention have never been more accessible.Does the idea involve software? There are all sorts of free online programming courses. Is it more of a mechanical device? Find an online 3D printing service.Need to make a 3D model of the device to send to the 3D printer or just to show to others? Use one of the many free 3d modeling software programs.More of an electronics invention? Find a low cost programmable microcontroller.Even if you eventually bring in a technical partner, the time and energy you put towards learning enough to make a prototype will be invaluable. Learning enough to make a prototype will help you clarify the concept in ways that will improve the quality of your conversations with potential partners, investors, patent attorneys, and customers. And you should absolutely have those conversations once you know what you’re talking about. As others have suggested, you should also write down an explanation of your idea. Write a document explaining your invention. Start with a paragraph explaining what it is and why it’s needed. Then write a few paragraphs explaining how to make the invention. Then include a few paragraphs explaining how to use the invention. Write all of this as if you’re explaining it to a high-school student. Even if some of it seems “obvious” or “straightforward” to you, write it out anyway. Then, as you work on the prototype, go back and re-read your document. You’ll probably see that you got somethings wrong or you have some new ideas learned from your prototype-building efforts.
