I Have An Old School French Horn With Rust On It How Do I Remove That Rust On The Horn Without

How do you restore a rusty trumpet?

Trumpets don't develop iron oxide since they aren't made of ferrous metals. Brass tarnishes and turns brown, but it isn't rust. You can remove the tarnish with a polish like Brasso. It requires some time and elbow grease, but should shine up reasonably well. If the brass has tarnished under the lacquer, then the only way to polish it will be to strip the lacquer off first. It is also possible to have someone remove the lacquer, buff the instrument, and then spray it with a new coat of lacquer. Usually, this procedure is fairly expensive, unless you can find a shop that specializes in it and can bring their costs down. In most cases, it's not worth the time or trouble because sparkly, new lacquer doesn't add much value to an instrument.I should also add that if this is a silver-plated trumpet that has turned brown (or black, if it sat long enough), then you should use a silver polish instead. Brasso is abrasive and will definitely scratch the finish.

I have an old school french horn with rust on it how do i remove that rust on the horn with out ruining it that wont cost much money?

Brass does not rust, it will tarnish though so you will need some Brasso (brass cleaner) and a cloth. Use a finger or cotton bud to apply then buff with the cloth.

Can i clean my trumpet without buying anything?

The best thing to use for cleaning a trumpet is a trumpet cleaning kit. The kit comes with a mouthpiece brush, a valve casing brush and a long, flex-shaft brush which is generally referred to as a "snake". Each has a specific purpose and are the best tools for the job.
The kit also includes slide grease, valve oil, and a polishing cloth.
Personally speaking, I caution my students against using slide grease because if you do not do a complete cleaning very regularly, then the grease becomes adhesive and will generally required a repair shop, with the right tools, to safely remove the the slides. I recommend vaseline clear petroleum jelly for slides. You only need a very little bit, but it works wonders for smooth slide operation.
As far as removing stuck valves. You can remove the slides and soak the trumpet in dish soap. Not dish washing detergent that is used in a dishwasher. They are completely different things.
If the dish soap idea doesn't help, try Liquid Wrench, which is available at many stores for a low price. That's what we use on our stubborn brass instruments at school. Try not to pound the valves with anything. You can destroy the valve and valve casing that way. We know this from experience.

I also recommend having a supply of q-tips and green scuzz pads. Q-tips for the small places like the inside of the valve caps. Cut the scuzz pads into thin strips for eroding the residue build-up on the slides. That will also make them shine. Apply a little vaseline and you can get great operation from the first and third valve-slides which are used to improve intonation on certain notes.

Once your instrument is back in working condition clean it regularly. I haven't played on either of my drum corps soprano bugles since 1990. But, the valves and slides have incredible action because I take the instruments out of their cases every few weeks and do some PM - preventative maintenance - on the slides and valves. I don't play these instruments because I do not want to go through the entire cleaning process that I do with my trumpets.

I hope I was able to help.

What man-made structures will still stand after 10,000 years, if mankind were to go extinct, and where?

The shadow of the US Interstate Highway system in the US, and comparable transformations of the landscape, world wide.Just look at the road cuts as you drive down any major highway not in the middle of the US.Blasted rock faces, left and right. A dozen cuts through 100 million year old stone, wide enough for four, six or even eight lanes of traffic. Even if the concrete or bituminous road surface is eaten away or plowed off to oblivion by a new ice age, those sheer cliffs, often with ruined drills still embedded will give testament that man was there. The George Washington bridge may rust away, forgotten, and flimsy spindrels of rusted metal scraped away by advancing glaciers marching over the land within a few thousand years. But those gaps will remain. You can fill a road cut with silt, so it cannot be seen at first. But you cannot fill those blasted canyons with enough binding, molten material that the pathway built by humans through those many miles roughly east-west or north-south relative to the legacy cardinal orientation to be able to deny we were there and liked both roads and polar coordinates.

How to clean rust from a clarinet that has been sitting up for a long time?

Throw the ligature away and buy a new one. A stock/OEM ligature is less than $5 A top quality professional replacement ligature is about $20 (and she doesn't likely need that yet).

It might be good to toss the mouthpiece and buy a new one of those too. Something like a Yamaha 4c - also pretty cheap. You just don't know where that old mouthpiece has been and it's probably not in good shape anyway.

Rest of the horn. Don't clean it yourself unless you know what you're doing. Simple mistakes there can result in a very costly repair call.

If it was damp/wet when it was put away and there's rust in the rods and screws than there's only one way to do it - keys off service. They'll clean it, replace pads and corks that need it, disinfect it, adjust it, and make it very playable. Cost will be about $70-100 in most shops. If it's a professional quality wooden instrument then the cost will be a little higher (parts cost more) but will be well worth it to protect your investment.

In the movie "Amadeus", what piece is Salieri describing with these words:?

I think it was the opening to "Mozart's Requiem".

Wait - I change my answer.

Try "Serenade No. 10 in B-flat". The Adagio? Yeah. I think that's it. Its been a long time since I saw that movie and I can't remember what was playing when he said that.

How do you de-rust a rusty trombone?

It just doesn't work. I guess storing it in a flooded basement and neglecting to empty out the water in the case was bad. Band camp starts in 3 days. Due to unexpected rusty conditions, I can no longer blow my own horn.

HELP!!!
