I Have Curly Hair But I

What is it like to have naturally curly hair?

I’m an indian born with curly hair. I’m 21 now. During my adolescent years i had brush hair as i didn’t even know that i had curly hair. Then puberty hit me hard and suddenly one day i realized that i am a curly haired dude(after shower). I was 17 during that time. My college friends call me noodles, cotton candy head, sparrow’s head bla bla, yeah i have been judged by almost everyone based on my curly hair.HOW GIRLS REACT: This is the tricky part. Some girls have told me that you would look so handsome with straight hair and that i should seriously consider straightening my hair permanently. On the other hand(the best part) some girls go crazy over my hair. I mean, countless girls(even aunties :O) have told me that i look unique and my hair is supercute. They just can’t keep their hands off of my curls.Almost everyone i meet for the first time comments about my hair. I enjoy some of their comments, some of them i’ve learnt to ignore for the best. From my experience i can say that curly hair draws attention from most people and you get to be known as the guy with curly hair.P.S Thats me and yeah, I love my hair and would never trade it for stupid spikes. White people and curly hair?

@ Mc Conner actually the curly hair of Black/white mixed people and the curls of "white" people look a lot alike, which is what led me to this theory in the first place.
Presumably white people:

Their curls are indistinguishable to me personally. There ARE white people who have naturally curly hair without African miscegenation sure. BUT African ancestory is dominant and there are a few too many white US curlies, ya know?

White can have curly hair, but?

Why doesn’t it shrink like black hair? I am biracial, my friend who is white has the same curl pattern as me.. Maybe even curlier... But my hair shrinks so much, and hers doesn’t at all..

Which is better, curly hair or straight hair?

I spent a good 10 years of my life trying to straighten my curly hair, only to have it dry and damaged from all the heat. I wanted to look pretty, to look just like the rest of the girls with silk straight hair. It’s funny how badly I wanted to sport straight hair that I completely missed the part where I was damaging the very same hair I wanted to look pretty. And boy, there’s nothing pretty about damaged hair.Even when I had them straightened, I received criticisms with regard to my hair. The worst being, “your hair looks like my pubic hair”. That hurt me so much I locked myself for days. I felt like death when I had to go out and meet people. I really wanted out.Years of straightening my hair finally took a toll on me. I woke up one day and decided, enough is enough. I had contemplated it for the longest time, but I finally found the courage to do it. I shaved my hair off.The transition was anything but easy. I struggled every other day. And I realised that I could shave my hair off, but they’d grow back. And then what? It was about time, I told myself. I needed to love myself. I needed to respect myself. “Embrace your curls Fash!” I told myself every morning. That was five years ago. Now my hair is fully back, and I keep them short so it’s easier for me to manage. I know whats good and whats not for my hair, and I take no offense when someone has anything bad to say. And guess what? Nobody has anything bad to say! At least not to my face.Once in blue moon I’d straighten my hair. But most of the time I just let them bounce. Acceptance is a big word. And I plan to stay committed to it.So my answer to this question?Neither. The fact we have hair at all. Wear your hair however you like it, but remember to nourish them and take good care of them. Love them as they are, embrace every strand of your hair. Nothing spells beauty like confidence does. Curls, straight, shaved, bald.I say, love it and own it!

Why is my hair curly if my parents don't have curly hair ?

Ok so I have really thick dark curly hair and I was wondering how I ended up with curly hair when really no one else has curly hair like mine in my family ? Also why was I bald till I was two but now I have a real thick long hair that grows fast? ( people thought that I was a boy so my mom used to always have to put bows in my hair and dress me in dresses so people would know I was a girl ). My mom has straight thin hair and my dad used to have thicker wavy hair but he almost bald now. My moms dad had thick red hair but it was straight and my moms mom has thin hair but it's kinda curly but I think she gets perms and all my moms siblings have like straight hair and all except one have blonde hair including my mom and their kids all have thin straight hair. My dads mom had thick hair before she got cancer and I'm not sure about his father his siblings all thin hair except for one. My brother has thin hair and it's a little wavy but nothing like mine. I'm litterly the only one I know who has really curly hair in my family ( I love it but it's wired that no one else has curly hair ) So how did I end up with curly hair ( I know my dad is my dad I look just like him as a kid )

My Dad has curly hair, but my Mom has straight hair. Is it possible for me to get curly hair as i get older?

I was born with straight hair. Obviously my sister used to have curly hair but it changed to straight hair as she turned into a teenager. Since this happened to my sister, is it possible for my hair to change as i get older too (since we're related by blood)? Right now i am 12 years old (yes young i know). i will be turning 13 years old in December (10 months from now on and it's quite a long time). Will anything similar happen to me?

Why do some white people, even blonds have curly hair? I'm a natural blonde & I have very curly hair.

“That’s the beauty of diversity. Humans have complex genetic diversity. No one is purely white with straight hair or brown with curly. I’ve seen lots of white blonde people with a variety of curly hair. Hopefully you can find beauty in the texture you have. Here a research study I found, hard reading but it’s titled: Common Variants in the Trichohyalin Gene Are Associated with Straight Hair in Europeans.” I believe this study is saying that wwe understand very little about genetic variation in European hair and how it has evolved but what they find is the common link between Asian genes and European genes.“Hair morphology is one of the more conspicuous features of human variation and is particularly diverse among people of European ancestry, for which around 45% of individuals have straight hair, 40% have wavy hair, and 15% have curly hair.”1“ The degree of curliness is correlated with the distribution of hair keratins and cell type within the hair fiber, with the number of mesocortical cells decreasing as the curl intensifies.”2“ Recent studies have identified Asian-specific alleles of the EDAR and FGFR2genes that are associated with thick, straight hair, suggesting that these variants arose after the divergence of Asians and Europeans.3, 4 However, the genetic variants influencing hair curliness in Europeans (which has been shown to be highly heritable 5) are unknown.”“In conclusion, we report a quantitative trait locusthat affects hair form in Europeans. The association accounts for ∼6% of the variance in hair morphology in this group and falls within the Trichohyalin gene, which has a known role in hair formation. The patterns of allele frequencies are striking, with the highest frequency of these variants observed in Northern Europeans (Figure 1), paralleling the observation of the straight-hair EDAR variant in Asian populations (Figure S9).”Common Variants in the Trichohyalin Gene Are Associated with Straight Hair in EuropeansVolume 85, Issue 5, 13 November 2009, Pages 750-755
