I Just Have A Few Questions About Majoring In Psychology

Psychology major???

i have always thought about being a psychology major, but i have some questions. is it hard to get your degree? how long does it take? when you have your degree, how do you get a job? do you have to intern? do you work on you own? how much money do you make? i would like to be a counseling theripest and/or a marrige and family therepist. what should i do? my most important question is what is the best universtiy for me to go to? i prefer california but mostly southern california. please help me.

Psychology major???

First of all, to be any type of psychologist, it's not required to have a BA or BS in Psy, though it's preferred. Very few careers in Psy only require a Master's; you need a Ph.D. or a Psy.D. to really have a career in Psy.

Getting a Psy degree is not a walk in the park. You really have to be serious about it and really work hard. If you're really serious about a career in Psy, you should get internships while you're getting your BA/BS. Depending on which branch of Psy you want to go into determines your salary. You really need to research before you make any rash decisions.

As for schools, UCLA has an excellent Psychology department. It's actually better than USC's. I'm currently going to Chapman University in Orange, CA and getting my BA in Psy. The Psy department is quite excellent considering how small the school is. I don't recommend online classes because you just won't learn as much as if a professor is there. A lot of the stuff that I've learned have been through real life examples that are not in the textbook.

Good Luck!

Psychology major and Math minor?

depends on what you are planning on doing with your degree in psychology. If you have interest in going to grad school math can help you immensly. especially if it can contribute to a higher gpa, making you a more appealing applicant. If you are interested in getting your Phd in psyc than i strongly encourage you to minor in math as there are a lot of statisitics courses.

What kind of jobs can you get with a major in psychology?

I know I have been asking a lot of questions about majors and careers but I am just very curious.
I want to know what kind of jobs you can get with a degree in psychology.
Psychology just seems very interesting to me.
I would like to know from someone who studied psychology, if they think it is interesting and if they think its a good major to choose.
thanks!! ♥

Why is psychology interesting to you?

It's food for my brain. I love understanding humans - behaviours, perspectives, habits, thinking, actions, characters, personalities, etc. It's all extremely interesting to me.I live mostly in my head haha. (hi, fellow introverts!) Just observing other humans doing what they do is enough to entertain me. It's not about being nosy, though. It's more about being intimately/religiously curious. We're living alongside other humans, anyway. Psychology can be used for almost anything. You want to make friends? Apply psychology. You want to remove some friends? Apply psychology. How to thrive in your business? You need customers for that. Understanding their purchasing habits etc is also linked to psychology. Relationships, influence, help, anything can use some psychology.Ultimately it helps you to help yourself. I can't stress this enough. Real change really starts from within. Psychology is a beautiful discovery and practice.Of course, this shouldn't be misused. The power of knowledge we have of other humans shouldn't be abused.I usually read, observe and learn extensively about humans for the benefit of achieving friendships, helping them, and in some cases to defend myself of potential dangers.I can go on and on about psychology, my goodness. But I'll stop here. Just know that I really love psychology. Haha. Thanks for asking, Kazuki! :-)

I need to interview a psychology major for my psychology class, and I was wondering if there is anyone whom can help me with answering a few questions regarding your path to psychology?

Yep, I just graduated in December with a BA in psychology and it’s probably fair to say that my “path” was an unusual one. Willing to answer any questions and good luck!
