I Keep Forgetting Things

I keep forgetting things...?

Recently I keep forgetting things. I say recently but its been going on for a few months and is gradually getting worse and worse, its so bad now that I have a series of lists to remind me to do things because I end up sitting in a daze not being able to fathom out what I am supposed to be doing or where I am supposed to be.

Its gotten to the stage now where I can be talking to someone on the phone and I hear what they say, go to reply and have forgotten what it was they said in the space of a few minutes. Its getting really frustrating now, I have no idea whats causing this?

I have just turned 20, and as far as I am aware I am in good health, my memory just seems to be going and I cannot explain why, any ideas?

I keep forgetting things?

HI,

I have this terrible problem with my memory. When im at work I keep forgetting things, which then extends to home. Im only 28 so I don't think I have a full on mental health issue, and it hasn't suddenly come on.

I try to write things down but after a few days I stop and then things just start slipping my mind.

Is there any advice someone could give to help?

Chris

What do you do if you keep forgetting things?

I try to write a list when I need to go to the grocery store, I forget the list, always. I went to buy coffee, I forgot again. Sugar, because I personally don't use it has been forgotten for 3 months. I have left the keys in my front door for three days, I couldn't leave the house because I had no keys to the car or the door. I have put the house keys in the freezer, the refrigerator and in the bathroom. I have put toilet paper in the fridge and the milk in the bathroom. I have poured cereal in the cat bowl and cat food in my cereal bowl. I took a heart worm pill and gave the dog an antibiotic. I have shampooed my hair with conditioner and conditioned my hair with shampoo . I have "cooked" a roast with no heat in the oven, forget things? Heck no, I am perfect, LOL I have put things in a safe place and never found them again, I guess they're safe from me. My friend threw out the clothes and took the trash with her when she moved.

I keep forgetting things?

yes, i have felt like what you are describing before!

it was during a time that i was going through a divorce, working several jobs, worrying CONSTANTLY about my past, present and future

idk if this had anything to do with it, but during this time i was also partying EVERY weekend and drinking heavily, but just on saturday nights

overall, i think, i just had way too much on my mind and way too much to take care of. i was just overwhelmed

if you think this may be the case for you (a heavy load) then do what i have to do -

1. set an alarm on your cell phone with a certain ringtone and for certain times everyday ( i set mine for ten to the hour, every hour, just b/c that's the time they always used to have news on MTV ), just to remind yourself to chill out, take a breather (literally - BREATHE! take deep breaths - this really helps!), and think: "now, is there ANYTHING i need to remember?"

2. set alarms for events that take place every week, month, etc in your cell, also to take the "things i need to remember in my head" load off of you

3. being organized (a tidy house and work area) helps you stay more organized in your head as well (i have slobbish tendancies, and i find that if i make myself NOT be a slob, i can remember things better)

hope it gets better for you

I keep forgetting things. How can I stop?

I think you should see a doctor. I'm not saying there's something terribly wrong with you, but it's worth checking out.

As for "how you can stop?"...well, there are many things that can cause severe memory problems. Such as certain medications (ativan comes to mind), stress, lack of sleep, vitamin deficiencies, and poor diets.

In order to find the root to this problem, you should see a doctor. They'll run some tests and figure it out.

This hits really close to home for me because my mom also had a very bad memory. The thing was though that it's normal with aging.....unfortunately, that wasn't the cause. She had a brain tumor. I don't think you have this since you're so young, but you need to know the importance of checking it out by a professional.

If you have any other question(s), email me.

Good luck,

Why do I keep forgetting things?

I got an organizer once, then forgot to use it. My problem was that I wanted something to do the work for me. It doesn't work that way, but that's actually not so bad. This may sound cheesy, but if you haven't done this already, check out Harry Lorayne's Page-A-Minute Memory Book (Ballantine, 1985). Gives a nice training seminar in remembering things, but also points out *why* we forget so much. The link below gives a summary, plus some other things to consider. Hope this helps. Good luck!

I keep forgetting small things. What should I do?

Maybe it's possible that you are trying to do too many things at once or too stressful to keep up with everything you want to do on your daily basis. You can sharpen your memory by playing games to trained several parts of your brain just as "Mind Games" App on Android or Apple or others. Just search for it or other games alike and use it at your best convince, since you're very young by applied some features to your "memory" it can become your best friend. In my personal experience you can also start drinking  vitamin B-12 which will help you and boost your memory, the ginseng in liquid and/or Vitamin B-12 Complex. Good luck. ^ Namaste^

I am only 19. Why do I keep forgetting things?

Thanks for A2A  Dilnesh RNThe question is not explained in question detail. I am not sure if you forget your commitments, appointments, etc. or you learn something and forget that.Whatever little I know about memory and mind I will try to answer you using that. To fix anything in our memory few things are important. Time you spend on memorising or learningThe extent to which you understand the informationHow important and relevant is that information is to you......and most important how effectively you use the tool called recallLet us first take exam scenario. When we study for exams we consciously or subconsciously program our mind to memorise information for that limited time. The questions in exam acts as a hook to extract the information from your memory. When you learn something very important and relevant you tend to spend time reflecting on it. Most of the times you recall that information sufficient number of times to fix it in your memory. This rule changes when you read or listen to a story which for you is interesting. There is a high probability that the story sticks to your memory for a long time. Lets talk about the word called forgetting. I am not sure if we truly forget things. I think it is better if we say we can not recall. If while learning we can provide an interesting hook for the information while storing it in our memory and a story is created for the information then I think it will be easy to recall that is do not easily forget. The above mentioned feat needs good practice. I hope I was able to answer your question.

Why do I keep forgetting things so much?

Memory is fueled by interest. Someone will say, "I have a terrible memory" but then they will tell me this huge story about what he said and she said and on and on like reading from a book. Its not that you can't remember, but its just that you don't care to remember it as much as you would something else. For example, if you lightly tripped one day while walking in the park, you probably wouldn't remember that event two weeks later. But if you fell and broke your leg in the park, you'll remember that for the rest of your life. So it comes down to what is important to you.

There are allot of ways to remember things, and one is using your imagination. Like if you sit your keys on a table and want to remember where you put them, just imagine the keys becoming really heavy and breaking the table in half. Where did I put my keys? Oh yeah I broke the table with them. Make it crazy and its easy to remember. If you want to remember to do something tomorrow, take something in your home and put it somewhere that is really out of place, such as putting a pot on the living room couch. The next day you'll see that pot and remember what you wanted to do.

The memory is a muscle so the more you practice the better it gets. You can look up other memory techniques and the next thing you know, you'll be impressing people with your memory instead of asking for a repeat.

I am just 15, but I keep forgetting things. Why?

There is a lot of factor that makes u forget stuff often, just like the comments that already shown the factors of why you keep forgetting things. But there is always a few way to memorize things to make sure you don’t forget your things. I could suggest you some ways that I actually applied in my real life1. SmartphoneYes, smartphone can actually helps u a lot, it’s sad that people don actually fully utilize the feature of the smartphone, especially the apps like Google Notes where you jot down stuff in bullet list or task. You could take out your phone and write it down in google note, and then set reminder so that it can remind you to do your stuff, or maybe calendar can be useful to you too. What I always do is when people mentioned something that I might need to remember, I just take out my phone and write it down, or set an event when I sees any interesting event or a date with friends2. RepeatAt first, people easier to forget stuff that they do not do often, so repeat the things you do and make it as a habit. If it is a stuff you need to just remember but not act, read it using your mouth, and then read it in your mind, then repeat if you want. Would suggest to perform this in an environment that would not distract you, or you could go library too, as long you don’t distract other this would be fineThis is what I could think of, I will add-on if I remember more details about method to remember things, cheer and give yourself a space, and remember you’re not alone ;)
