I Live In The Uk And Currently Got A Community Order From The Court

I have court-ordered community service, but don't know where to volunteer!?

That's some outstanding advice there, Poppygoo... Tell that to your own PO and see what happens next...

Our department tells probationers the same thing: do the community service work at any non-profit organization you want... We also provide a list of about 40-50 agencies that we know that provide community service, although the probationer is not bound to use any of those agencies...they're just suggestions... I'm guessing your PO doesn't have such a list, though, since it sounds like they normally used your city's DPW until a few idiots ruined it for everyone...

I tell the folks that I supervise that they can work for anything owned by the city, county, or state: parks departments, fire departments, police departments, etc... Libraries are good options... Goodwill Industries has a few locations in my area, and they are very popular places to work because they are open for many hours each day, and they don't care (around here, anyway) if you work 2 hours a day or 8 hours a day... Churches are also popular places to work, although you might want to clear that through your PO first, since not all departments may allow community service work to be done for religious organizations...

Some other agencies that we list that might be in your area:

--Habitat for Humanity
--Nursing homes (make sure it's a non-profit one, though, because not all of them are)
--American Legion or similar organizations (again, make sure they are non-profit first)
--Food banks
--Homeless shelters / kitchens
--City governments--sometimes our city uses community service workers to help clean offices/hallways/restrooms or move office furniture or file papers or destroy papers or any other special projects they may have going on at any given time in any particular department...
--Your Probation Department--occasionally, we have special projects that we use community service workers for...

I hope that gives you some ideas... Good luck to you!

Where can i do (court ordered) community service?

i need to do 20 more hours, have done four so far. i called like goodwill but they said no as well as several other places it seems they look down upon letting me do stuff there because its court ordered. does anyone know of some places that would let me, i live in suburbs of Chicago.

Can Court Ordered Community Service Be Done In Another State?

The best thing to do is to check with your probation officer and/or your community service case worker. Some offices will transfer these obligations from state to state with little or no problems. You shouldn't have to go before the Court to ask permission to change transfer - your PO or case worker should be able to help you out.

What is court ordered community service actually like?

Usually you are provided with a list of organizations needing help, and you have a choice. You can then call and make arrangements, etc.

It can be helping to clean up a baseball park, planting a few shrubs, reading to some old people, etc. It varies a lot.

Whoever is wanting the community service will set the hours, but it is up to you how long you stay, etc. Usually it is 2-3 hours here and there, and you choose when to work.

You live at home, and will dress according to what job you are going to be doing. Yes, your own clothing.

Usually the people needing your help, are very nice, friendly, and appreciate you. And if you work real hard some will give you a few extra "bonus" hours.

If you get community service is it a criminal record?

Depends on the crime you were charged with. What was the crime you were charged with that caused you to get community service? Its not community service that goes on your record, its the crime. If the crime was dropped in exchange for community service, than no, its not on your criminal record (although people in court can still see it, I had a felony dropped at 18 and went to court when I was 26 and they tryed to use it against me).

Well it depends on what the judge or prosecutor negotiated with you. If they said it would be off your record if you did community service, than that is the deal. I had to do community service but it wasnt to get anything off my record, it was just part of the sentence, so I still have it on my record even though I did community service. Because I wasn't offered a deal.

How Much Does Community Service Cost?

I live in California and I'm 16. I got caught with cigarettes at school and now I have to go to court and stuff and I'm going to have to do community service. Does anyone know about how much I will have to pay? Like, how much is the community service fee cost in California?

Can someone who was ordered to do community service work anywhere?

The court will accept most service done for nonprofit organizations, HOWEVER, before you engage in service with any organization, you need to ask the organization if they will affirm, in writing, that you provided service and how many hours.

You can find opportunities in your area via any of these web sites:

Also, contact your local volunteer center; you can find this via the Points of Light Foundation web site, http://www.pointsoflight.org/centers/

There's also this government sponsored site, http://volunteer.gov/gov/ which provides volunteer positions through USA federal land agencies like Fish & Wildlife, Forest Service, National Parks, etc.

I have 150 hours of community service to complete by February 2nd......?

You have only 150 hours - and that equates to 18.75 days... nineteen days.

There are seven non-holiday weekends, which ends up being 14 days. I have never heard of a court not allowing a person to do an hour or two per day, after regular work hours.

If you are in that much of a bind, you can petition the court to extend the deadline.

Outside of the obvious - perhaps you should consider this a learning experience, and that a criminal conviction is not meant to be CONVENIENT. Get out there and do the community service.
