I Need A 2nd Air Rifle Help Me Choose

I need help choosing a new air rifle?

Again... Such hate for airgun hunting... Very disappointing...

There are a number of air-guns in your price-range that will work for hunting rabbits, though the more powerful PCP hunting air-rifles are outside your price range. (It might be worth bumping your price-range up a bit to get a Benjamin Discovery or a Sumatra 2500 since they'll probably give you more power, quicker follow-up shots, and more accuracy, but that's entirely up to you.)

In .177 caliber, pretty much any of the guns that deliver a muzzle velocity of around 700+ fps will work. This includes the:
- Crosman 2100
- Benjamin 397
- Beeman RS1
- Beeman RS2
- Crosman G1 Xtreme
- Crosman Phantom 1000
- Crosman Quest 1000
- Diana RWS 34 Panther
- Gamo Big Cat 1200

In .22 caliber, any of the 600+ fps rifles should have enough power to kill rabbits. This includes the:
- Daisy 22SG
- Beeman RS2 Air
- Benjamin 392
- Crosman Quest 800X
- Diana RWS 34 Panther
- Mendoza RM-2000

Personally if you're going to be shooting rabbits, I'd encourage you to look at the more powerful guns like the RWS 34 Panther and Benjamin 392 in .22 caliber since they should deliver more power at longer ranges than the .177 caliber guns. Still inside 20-30 yards it shouldn't matter which caliber you go with. You can review the different guns I mentioned at Pyramid Air to get a feel for which one you want.

Pyramyd Air had the 1000WS as of yesterday, so I don't know what's up with that...

I don't want anything lower than 1000fps?
IMO, sporting air rifles tend to perform best(combination of accuracy and trajectory) when you keep the muzzle velocity between 800fps and 950fps. If the muzzle velocity is too low the trajectory suffers, if it's too high accuracy does. You control MV by matching pellet weigh to the power(muzzle energy) of your rifle.

I don't know anything about airguns. I need help choosing an air rifle for hunting?

Choosing an air rifle?

The Ruger Air Hawk Elite is built in china, not the USA. And IMO chinese built air rifles are a waste of good money.

Weihrauch HW950
If it is what I think it is >the HW95 with a different stock< Then, for the money, you would be hard pressed to do better. Unless, you took the excellent advice and went with the HW90 instead.

Added for "Josh H"
That's not bad advice for a young shooter/hunter looking for their first(inexpensive) air rifle. "IF" you remove the Beeman RS2 from that list.

Which pelle/air rifle should i choose?

You can get a reasonable powerful & accurate rifle for around $100 the only problem is, they are not well made or durable.

The
Crosman Quest 1000X
Crosman Storm XT
Crosman Phantom
Are all about the same, though, of the three I prefer the Quest..

You might take a look at the Ruger Air Hawk

I know it's more money but IMO "IF" you can swing it, you are far better off spending a little more and getting a high quality, durable air rifle.

Which air gun should I choose?

Generally, single pump/spring piston air rifles have better inherent accuracy than multi-pump air rifles because of the stability of the pressure when you pull the trigger.

If I can digress into the physics just a little bit - Ideal gas law goes like this: pv = nRT. where n is the number of moles of gas, R is a constant (called the Rankin constant), T is temperature of the gas, p is pressure, and v is volume.

So what this means is that as you pump you increase the number of moles of gas (n) that is going into the chamber. Depending on how fast you pump, you actually effect both n and T which changes the pressure. When the pressure changes, this changes the accuracy of the air rifle.

Now, the Benjamin 397 is among the very best in multi - pump pneumatic, but even it cannot defy the laws of physics. Because single pump guns have more stable pressure, the accuracy is generally better for equivalent barrels.

So if your target practice area has no power limitations, then the Vantage or the Big Cat might be better choices. Between the Vantage and the Big Cat these are pretty equivalent air guns I'd go with whichever one fits you the best.

If you are in the situation where you need the variable power of the multi - pump, the Benjamin is clearly the way to go.

Which pellet gun should i choose?

you have relatively limited your self with the help of your standards permit me inform you why. A .177 diameter bullet strapped to the front of the main well liked attainable load remains basically humane adequate for small interest ie. rodents and varmints. something bigger inspite of shot placement motives the animal undue suffering that's unethical. A pellet gun or bb gun would desire to propell ammo a minimum of 7 hundred fps to be humane. something is as much as the guy. while identifying on a gadget discover out what's mandatory or required and narrow your determination. then from that determination choose the only you like. Out of the three you have indexed the winchester is the utmost high quality, and against my greater acceptable judgement i recomend this rifle to you as you may take or attempt to take bigger interest. the greater speed and smash action provides you with an side over the different selections. BE ethical interior the taking of interest and varmints. those rifles are very limited in potential. wish this facilitates you're making an suggested determination. additionally ammunition is and considerable element that i'm hoping wont be neglected. chuffed looking

What caliber of air rifle should i choose?

Technically, if the .25 will shoot the same velocity as the .22, it will be a better small game caliber. The problem you'll face is finding .25-caliber pellets. .22-caliber pellets are reasonably common, which means that they'll probably be better; having a less common gun and not having a way to feed it leads to rather unexciting hunting trips... because I sincerely doubt that clubbing rabbits with your .25-caliber pellet gun will be particularly easy.

If you could choose any break barrel air gun what would it be?

I wouldn't. In the price range you state, they are pretty much chinese junk. None will make it over 5,000 shots without a repair.
I'd get a Benjamin 392 or 397 and still have it 30 years later. My Benjamin 397 is 14 years old, has easily 25,000 shots through it. Made in USA. Built to last.
