I need an idea for an allegory!?

An allegory is a form of extended metaphor, in which objects, persons, and actions in a narrative, are equated with the meanings that lie outside the narrative itself. The underlying meaning has moral, social, religious, or political significance, and characters are often personifications of abstract ideas as charity, greed, or envy.
Thus an allegory is a story with two meanings, a literal meaning and a symbolic meaning.

I wrote an allegory when I was at school, titled 'Mortis' - the main character represented death. It was a piece which looked at how mankind was killing themselves by polluting their planet (I was a really passionate Greenie back then!) The main thing to remember when writing your allegory is to pick a strong main character who has some sort of moral bearing - and build the story around that. Good luck!

I have a idea for a business, but I need investors. How do I pitch the idea to potential investors without them stealing the idea?

This question pops up now and then, so I’ll throw in my 2 cents. The obvious answer is “make them sign a nondisclosure/noncompete”, but there is more involved before you get that far.As an entrepreneur and investor, I’ll tell you first of all that ideas are a dime a dozen. Everybody has an idea, some people have a new one every day - and in their mind it’s the newest most awesome thing on the planet. But ask anyone who has sit through many many pitches and combed through stacks of prospectuses (prospecti?) - there is nothing new under the sun.The value of an idea is 1.) who is running it, and 2.) how far have you gotten it on your own. If YOU are impressive and investors really believe that YOU are the person who can make this project happen, you have a better chance of bringing in the cash. If you have a full business plan, have done your market research, identified your customers, developed a marketing strategy, etc, etc… Then you’ve added value to your idea.So are you selling an empty wagon with “lots of potential”? Or have you started filling that wagon and pulling it down the road? The more you have added to the load in the wagon, and the farther you have pulled it down the road, the more value it has.But if you just have “an idea for an empty wagon” - I’ve got plenty of those already. Don’t ask me for money unless you’ve proven the potential of your idea. Do your research, bootstrap what you can, show me your the person who has the drive to make this happen. The other thing is that most legitimate investors will not sign your NDA. I talk with people about their ideas all the time. If I signed an NDA or noncompete agreement on every project, by this point I wouldn’t be able to ever get involved with any project because I would have signed away the ability on something else. Eventually I’d jump into a project and someone would believe “he stole my idea!”, but in reality I forgot your idea years ago, and this new project is something different.Concern yourself with fleshing out the idea and making something of it, not with “idea thieves”.Good luck, and have fun with it!

I have a business idea but I need people to develop an app and a website for it. How can I hire or collaborate with someone without the risk of them doing it without you?

You actually have multiple questions wrapped up in this. Your core question centers on protecting the proprietary aspect of your idea(s) which represent(s) the real value of your company. Whether you wish to work with someone whose input you need to guide you or whose skills you need to develop your app or website, you need to ensure that revealing the information about your business that is necessary for them to assist you does not run the risk of disclosing your ideas to others. Conventionally, for this purpose businesses use a "non-disclosure agreement" (NDA) that specifies what will be revealed, either within the agreement or very specifically referenced in it and by agreement mandates them to not reveal it to any third parties and specifies to what use this information is being provided. If you are employing (by contract or as staff employees) them to create content (as opposed to consultative services), then the non-disclosure should also be part of their employment agreement or contract. The bottom line is that you need to be pragmatic. Don't work with people you don't trust. A breach of agreement may get you some compensation, but revealing your ideas to potential competitors means you have lost your opportunity.

I need some ideas on how to kill my main character. She's gonna have a perfect life with a perfect house, perfect family and perfect friends then dies unexpectedly. How should I make her die?

I’m guessing this could be sort of literary story where secrets will come out in the aftermath and maybe the main character will narrate things from the afterlife or you will show how several characters are profoundly affected by her secrets, her life, her death?Maybe she has aneurysm or a massive stroke and dies quickly. I think I would use aneurysm if she was young and stroke if she was older. She could have a fall putting up or taking down Christmas lights or cleaning the gutters.I don’t think you want to draw attention to the death as a very unusual one, unless you are going for a tone of irony that matched other circumstances in her life.Maybe she lived a good quiet life (on the surface) but she died in a spectacular way that made headlines. Maybe she occasionally subbed as a teacher or school nurse or volunteered at the grade school and was killed by a school shooter. Maybe she was just taking cookies to her kid’s class. Maybe the kid had mowed her lawn one summer. If she was secretly murdered and you were aiming for a mystery, you can be quite creative. She could have ingested poison in a variety of different ways. She could have a health problem and the killer stressed her out to bring on an attack. In real life, Sunny Bulow was possibly killed with an injection of insulin (she had hypoglycemia). She could be offered something that she is violently allergic to. She could be stung by a bee and her epi pen is unavailable. Who lured her out of the house and into the garden and why?Remember as Chekhov said, if you introduce a loaded gun into the story for any reason, at some point it has to go off. Be sure to use foreshadowing and make sure there is some sort of payoff.
