I Need Help Choosing A Job For The Airforce I Wanted Some Of You Guys Opinion On The Best General

Is it a bad choose open general as your job going into air force BMT?

my friend chose open general or something like that going into bootcamp. he got the job he wanted and i was thinking about doingg the same thing. does anyone know if it is a bad idea to take that risk. i really wanna go to the air force but going to boot with out a job and choosing it in bootcamp seems risky. anyone have any personal stories or know what happened to someone that did this?

Air Force DEP and Open General Contract Question?

I just wanted to pick the brains of some of you military folks about signing a military contract and going into the DEP.
I just swore in into the Air Force last week and am now in the Delayed Entry Program and just wanted to see if anyone else on here went through the same thing and selected a guaranteed job they wanted. I am really hoping for a medical job, specifically diagnostic imaging, but have been told by my recruiter is that they are harder to come by nowadays and I would probably get a better chance of getting a medical job if I signed an open general contract.
My question to you guys is has anyone on here signed an open general contract before and do you think it is a decent idea or would you hold out to wait for something you exactly wanted? I really am open to different possibilites, just hopefully I can get an Air Force job with some type of civilian application after my service.
There seems to be pretty strong opinions of both sides being that open general is a really bad idea and you get only stuck with crappy jobs, or it is a route which gives you an equal shot of landing a good job as any. Any type of feedback would be appreciated.
Oh and for what it's worth i got an 86 overall on the asvab and an 84 specifically for the general category. thanks!

Open general contract in Air Force?

What are your experiences with open gen contracts, especially those of you who've recently been through BMT? I've heard from several recruiters that getting stuck with either security forces or services is a thing of the past now. They said that most secfo jobs are booked ahead of time these days and that actually about 60% of all enlisted jobs (especially highly desirable ones like medical) are reserved for the counselors to give out at BMT.

Is this true or a load of bull? Just want to know what your experiences are.

I was not obligated to list an aptitude area at MEPS but I am considering telling my recruiter to go ahead and add general aptitude on my list in hopes of booking a ship date/job sooner.

What is the best admin job for the Air Force?

I booked a job for the Air Force about a week ago, and it's an Admin Aptitude Area which means I choose my job when I get to BMT. I got a 91 on my ASVAB and a 95 in the Admin area so I qualify for any job. I want to know which jobs I should look into because I don't have any sort of preference. Also I don't want to read a job description because I can look that up myself on usmilitary.about.com or on the Air Force web site, I want to read your opinion. Thank you guys so much, any answer is appreciated.

If I choose a medical job in the Air Force...?

Wow, amazes me how some people just throw answers out there without having a clue :)

It really depends on what medical job you want to do in the Air Force. Some are harder to get then others. There are X-Rays Techs, Med Techs, Resp Techs, Surg Techs, Biomedical Equipment Techs, Dental Techs are just some of them. Inside each of those career fields there are different jobs. for example

X-Ray techs, they all start out in x-ray, then some are selected to become CT techs, MRI techs, Mammography techs, Nuclear medicine techs and a couple other things.

Heres a good web site that gives very generalized things about different Medical Career fields

http://www.airforce.com/opportunities/en...

All medical jobs fall under the General catagory.

When talking with your recruiter. all medical AFCS start with a 4

thats how you know it is really a medical job. ASVB scores do affect what medical careers will be available to you. Some are very high to qualify for it.

good luck

General Aptitude Contract (Air Force)?

You're at the mercy of the AF. But if you like it enough to stay in, you can re-class after at least a year after you get MOS qualified, but that usually extends your contract.
