I Need Help With My Dog

I need help training my dog?

k, first of all: to teach your dog some basic tricks, you have to have food. after he has really learned obedience it wont be necessary but for now you will need it.

to help your dog understand the system 4 learning, start with this basic trick:down laying down is really a dogs bread and butter. you will need a clicker, meaning something that makes a quick noise. there are official clickers but many household items work.
one very important things is a motion. a common "down" motion is a straight arm pointing skyward that you lower to point downward. dos learn better from motions then sound, but will also use a vocal command.

when you have the food, your dog is likely to start trying Various things and will eventually lay down. if he doesn't, you May GENTLY push on his back to give him the idea. be patient with your dog.

when your dog successfully does the trick, immediately use your sound maker. your dog will quickly learn this means "good job". reward your dog with the food by putting it Between their paws and not by letting them gobble it out of your hands. this teaches good eating behaviors.

you can congratulate your dog vocally, but do not pet him till you are completely finished with your training session. to a dog, being petted means Business is over and playtime has begun.

My dog got hit by a car and died need help?

I had a very sweet yorkie named krypto the superdog, yesterday he got out the front door without us knowing and within 2 minutes was hit and killed. I am having 2 problems, one is I cant get the picture of how horrible he looked, ( I am pretty sure he died on impact). and second how do I help my 8 year old son handle it. He cried about 3 hours last night and a few times today. ( I of course have cried more). My son has lost 2 dogs and a rat (the rat died after one year and my son found him). I need some advice of how to help my son coupe with it. I did take my dog to a vet as soon as I could find one that was open and they took care of disposing of him. ( gosh that sounds horrible) I told my son, god new that it was time for krypto to go to heaven, so I know in my heart he took him before the car hit him so he didnt feel any pain, any advice would be great.
Blessings

I need help with my dog?

EDIT _ it sounds like you need to change his food totally, blander food, which may help him in the long run, if need be put him back on puppy food for a while that should help, he doesn't seem in too much stress, dogs go through stages of the runs like we do, if he hasn't been on the meds for a while and you have had to restart them it will have an affect on his system, don't panic too much.

the poo is just diarahra, but normal, you need to keep his food simple I was told by a vet to give mine chicken its a bland meat and did that for a week and was back to normal, are you feeding him tinned or dry food as tinned can be a little rich for there stomachs sometimes.

He seems fine if not being sick - good sign
poing but runny - ok sign
peeing normally - good
acts fine - starting to be on the mend

I need help my dog has heartworm?

Unless you had coverage in place already, there is no pet insurance that will cover it because it will be a 'preexisting condition'. Even if you had had insurance in place, it likely still would not cover it because it is very easily prevented from occurring with proper care. If you are having problems affording the treatment, look into Care Credit. It is accepted by most vets and will allow you a period of time (usually a year on more expensive treatments) to pay it off interest-free. http://www.carecredit.com/

Add: Read the policy you provided a link to. It will NOT cover heartworm treatment. NO coverage for a pre-existing temporary conditiont he first year. This may cover a recurrence of the heartworm after it is treated this time, but it will NOT cover the dog's treatment. "Our philosophy on pre-existing conditions that will eventually heal is to exclude these conditions temporarily during the first year of your pet's policy. During your first year any treatment that is for a pre-existing condition will not be covered but, if your pet remains clear of this condition during the first policy year, the exclusion will be removed for the second and subsequent years."

My dog wont let me cut her nails , i need help !?

my dog wasn't so into it in the beginning either. What I did was I was always touching his feet, all the time and giving him treats when he let me. Then, when I was home, I'd carry his nail clippers around with me waiting for an opportunity (if I got up to get the nail clippers he'd become anxious so I had them in my pocket or kept them in the living room). When we were both laying around relaxed I'd lay next to him and pet him and give him a treat and clip one nail, just one, and give him another treat. Eventually I worked up to two nails, then three, now I can get 2-3 paws done at a time, sometimes all 4 if he's feeling especially compliant.

My dog is in labor i need help i will be asking ?? every now and then?

Giving her a bath, is the last thing you should be worried about right now. This is the third time you've asked basically the same question. You just don't get it do you? You have no idea how serious this situation really is, especially because you haven't got the slightest idea, what you are doing and you are putting her life at risk! She doesn't need a bath right now. She does however need a vet. If you don't have the money to properly provide for your dog, then you should not have her in the first place. You can't afford her. She deserves to be properly taken care of, so I would suggest that you surrender her to a vet. They will take care of her and adopt her out to another family, who can afford to take proper care of her. She didn't ask for this! You were irresponsible and let it happen. Stop asking the same question over and over again. The answers you are getting are not going to change. I feel so sorry for this poor Chihuahua. According to what you said in another question that now has been removed, this is her second litter. She's not a puppy making machine. Get her to a vet, before you lose her.

How can I help my dog that keeps dry heaving?

Depends on what breed of dog you have sometimes.  I had a yorkhire terrier and it started doing that, so I took him to the vets.  it was a collapsable windpipe and I was told it is common in his breed when ageing.  I recall being given tablets and it improved and he had it for quite sometime.  It also happened to his sons, when they became older.  After a few years his quality of life was too painful for him and for me to watch and listen.  So I did the right thing, I feel to ease his suffering at the end, before it became too much for him to endure. He was called Bear and was 15 years when he went to the clouds in the Sky.  Check your animals breed on the internet or ask a vet - there might be nothing you can do to stop it entirely, but you may be able to help them.  Good Luck

Will an invisible fence work for my dog? I need help! did it work for you?

I have a wonderful 7 yo Rott mix who cannot be kept in the yard. She has pulled off 2' chunks of fence, dug dozens of holes, etc. She gets lots of walks and attention, and typically stays within a few houses of home, but has been picked up twice by animal control. I am now on probation for "failing to restrain" my animal. She has been exiled to my mom's house for the last month while we try to figure out a way to keep her. This is an absolute last resort so please no comments regarding the cruelty of such a system. My vet has suggested it, but i am a little apprehensive.

What steps do I need to take to help my dog stop being afraid of trivial things?

Dogs are just like kids. What will you do when a kid falls stumbles and falls down (of course when nothing happens to the kid) ?A) Just remain calm and tell the kid "oh that's okay" and help the kid get back on his or her feetor B) Get anxious and worried and let the kid know of that and make the kid feel something terrible has happened? Now, if you're someone who does the latter, then you might notice that on seeing our reaction, the kid also starts worrying and thinks that something terrible has happened. Instead, if you're someone who does what's given in (A) then you will know that the kid just gets up and walk again as if nothing had happened. The same thing applies to dogs. Whenever something happens - such as a thunder sound, or something else that frightens your dog - just acknowledge and divert your dog by interacting with it or getting its attention towards you and away from what causes disturbance to your dog instead of getting anxious that something bad has happened. Dogs get worried that something has indeed gone wrong and they also get worried and start panting.A word of caution: Do not put your dog inside a room or let it alone thinking that secluding the dog will comfort it when it is scared. Be with your dog.
